Huawei Matebook D14 Not charging USB-C port repair - How to fix a broken charging port easy 

I follow Sorin for some years so I know what he's capable of but the dexterity with the wire and the iron this time made my jaw drop!

Ooh, we get a Sorin time-lapse for unscrewing the board, is that a new thing? I wonder if you can bond/ melt the black plastic a bit into the connector so it can't move? Else like you said, it will probably break again one day. I wonder if the owner accidentally kicked out the usb-c to cause that kind of dent to the case? It will have likely slightly opened up the usb-c metal outer parts and the bent in clips that retain the plastic spacer too (maybe some of that uv glue in the rear part where the black plastic is kind of squeezed in by the metal USB-C might reduce its chance of shifting) ?

It is better to change out the socket. Metal housing is a bit bent = more wiggle. Also, plastic connector insert is loose with case.

Congratulations Sorin 🥳👍🎉 on switching from hot glue. UV glue is indeed stronger and more convenient to use. I like "smelly" epoxy glue that sticks and is iron strong. PRO-POXY 20. I built a broken corner laptop for a customer. Adheres well to plastic after light polishing.

12:25 if you have a problem with removing greasy solder flux from the board, try heating it up a bit with hot air and absorb it with a qtip or cotton disk. Then you will have an easy time removing any residues with alcohol or gasoline. Edit. And apart from that, after you clean rosin, the board often stays sticky

maybe if you glue that middle plastic to a outer shell of usb port with super glue. might be more rigid. because i see that plastic moving independently

Hi sorin nice work again. I think you could use some hot glue to reinforce the plastic part of the port to motherboard to extend the life of that port as you say it is a user generated problem but it could help a bit more. :) have fun regards from istanbul Turkiye

This damage is customer fault. Shouldn't be covered by warranty.

Sorin, it seems the tip of the soldering iron needs to be filed to a sharper point to work on those chip pins. Or is that not possible because of the heat distribution.

Which are the chances? That same laptop's problem was exactly what I was fixing today!

With the case looking a littel bit bent I'd say it's more likely to have been dropped/knocked when the charging cable was plugged in and that's what has caused all that damage.

why no hot glue used on this? the plastic inside the charging port was moving causing to break the tracks on the board.....

well done, nice - I don't know about this UV-thingy and how to remove again (if necessary) but why not using hot-glue to fasten the wiggly pins at the charging port? What happens when the port realy need to be changed and there is this hardened UV-stuff, which can't be removed without breaking all tracks involved? ...well, just came to my mind and removing hot-glue might also be tricky, I know

USB C is even worse than barrel jacks. Those Lenovo rectangle ones are quite good though.

I have two motherboards for an ASUS X541U one with i3 7th gen(dead chipset) and another one with i5 7th gen with password locked bios can i swap the bios chip from the i3 one on the i5 one will it work normally?

Inject the proper amount of superglue into the back of the plastic to stop wiggle 🤷🏼‍♂️

how did he know that the row of pins that are under the port for usb-c are fine? usb-c has 2 rows of pins right? i dont see how they were not broken as well

That metal shell on that port is doing nothing to protect that port. Some ports have hidden contacts under the port. If this laptop was new when sold and it is already had this damage I bet it will be back for the same repair.

The crimp on the body of the usb c socket must have been bent so that the black plastic core is free to move. Replacing the socket is the best way to fix this otherwise it may break again even with glue added. Unfortunately there are many different usb c sockets in the market of varying quality and pin arrangement, the cheaper ones can be less robust. I use a magnetic lead with my phone to protect the usb c socket.
