I'm a long time Lenovo Thinkpad X model and Yoga model user. I got myself the Matebook Pro 2022 a month ago and it feels centuries ahead of Thinkpad. The finish, feel and screen are unmatched. The touchpad is out of this world. I agree with Chris that for the first time it feels better working on a touchpad than using a mouse. I run graphics intensive software, they performed quite well - way better than expected with an internal graphics. For a portable laptop the battery performance is very good, fast charging is a bless.
In German market you can now get the Matebook 14s for 900 € which is probably the best price-performance laptop on the market. I really love Huawei's keyboard and screen ratio.
Truly a stunner ultra book. Excellent screen(brighter than they claim👌😄), build quality, very lite and thin! And it's backed up with next gen performance as well. But it should have better 3D graphics performance though. A remarkable offering from Huawei indeed! Thank you for the well rounded review Chris 👍👍as always. ✌
Battery for god sake! Forget about the 3D this laptop. Huawei advertise 8 h battery life in reality is more like 4! Its horrible compared to Apple! And they ask for 2000 euro! Unbelievable!
I still have the first version of the Matebook X from 5 years ago, and it's still excellent, I think I'll upgrade but in all honesty, I don't really need to lol
Hope US lift off the Ban of Huawei because for me Huawei is one of the company who works in "innovation" if you ask me who have best quality, and great devices i would say is Huawei.
When you see it in person it’s a quality build and finish. The soft touch coating doesn’t feel like the cheap rubberised paint finishes on some tech that peaks off. It seems a lot more durable. I also like this colour and the coating change.
so happy they have finally addressed the very disappointing 👃📷 (nose-cam). that was their single, major design flaw? why is there still a camera button on the keyboard function row...disable/enable camera maybe? 👊🏻🇿🇦
As you mention this is the 2nd generation of the 2022 design, only differences I can see with this is its the special edition magnesium chassis, updated 1260p, ram and wifi. A couple of questions, was the battery tested on 90hz or 60hz, the 90hz is another big plus point for this laptop. Real world with throttling, how much faster this is model than the 1195G7 2022 release? Also which is better on battery life, would be good to compare the two models to see if the 1260p is a real step up.
Hi yes the new refined case which makes it lighter, new screen nano anti glare coating and other minor tweaks to improve it overall. It was in Balance mode at 60hz for my battery test. At 90hz it will be around 2 hours less under the same test conditions it takes quite a hit on the battery as expected.
Main issues still the power to battery performance on Intel… plugging this with USB C into my external monitor, it is under plugged in mode and eats more power with higher clock speed compared to battery mode. Unfortunately, this means it draws significant more power and battery still depleting despite connected to my external monitor via USB C. This does not happen on my MacBook Air m2, I am able to keep battery level at 100% with just USB C connection with my monitor. For my Huawei I’ve to keep laptop nearer to power adapter on right side of my table compared to more versatility on MacBook Air m2 which I’m able to keep the laptop on the left side with usb c monitor plugged in
How did you get hold of your laptop? How did you get it in English? I just bought one off of the back of your review from China (where I live) and I'm having serious issues with installing windows in English. I've bought a Windows 11 Pro Key, and have booted it using the Windows Media Creation tool (as I've done successfully in the past with machines bought in China) however, upon start-up using the English Windows installation, all drivers have irreparable error codes! It's driving me crazy - pun intended.
which is exactly why I'll never buy another Huawei laptop in China. Their single unit machines are a headache. I was successful switching with their 2019 version, but not willing to go through it again.
Everybody knows what huawei did when they were making inhouse chips uptil kirin 9000, then they made harmony OS which is already proving a great OS, now imagine if the ban is lifted and they can make their own computer chips that rival m1 along with inhouse OS that can rival mac & windows. ( Which they really can ) given their past achievements. Shame on US for playing negative competition rather letting innovation prevail and benefit masses.
haha well Huawei Santa stopped of to give me a lot of products to review, they are press loan units we later return but it's so good they let me review of cool new tech. Otherwise I wouldn't have this content in the channel.
@@Techtablets I really think it's disgraceful more manufacturers don't do this with you. You're by far the best and most objective of any consumer tech reviewer I've seen. I guess alot of the manufacturers can't handle having product "short comings" discussed with so many Chinese tech devices having mind boggling exclusions or lower spec choices on certain features. It's good to see Huawei making some interesting devices. I had my mind set on just buying Lenovo notebooks from now on since Xiaomis jumped the shark, will definitely consider Huawei now.
I am facing a very very slow charging issue. I have MateBook X Pro 2021 11th Gen with Intel Core i7. When I restored the windows they doing fine. but after updates for a month or two, start affecting charging. And finally becomes so slow to charge the battery in 12 or 13 hours. I went to the Huawei store in Shenzhen, China several times, and they only waste time and don't solve the issue...
Isn't this 90hz? Did you not check or mention this? Also stop testing brightness on percentages, should be in nits therefore keeping the test meaningful. State the battery size in kWh and state how long a much charge we can get in 30 and 60 mins. Thanks for the review
I think that the latest gen SSD speeds are now overkill, though i get some wnt the latest and greatest, but 3400Mb/s is more thn enough for an ultrabook workload. I checked may daily SSD speed and the most was about 300Mb/s when transferring from an SD card! Not sure how many people have n external device capable of 7Gb/s, even assuming that that would be the speed. I get that prosumer machines need the best speeds but I think this is fine and bearing in mind the Galaxy Book 2 Pro 512GB speed on battery is barely over 1000Mb/s, I think the Matebook X Pro is fine. I have 2020 version and it is super slick, so not sure I would need to upgrade for a while yet. I would suggest that buyers wait 4-6 months after release as Huawei do great deals and I got mine for £600 off. Thanks!
Sure it's fine for 99% of users, but even so the competition uses the faster PCIe in their ultrabooks so really it's time they moved to PCIe 4. It will only slow sequential TB 4.0 transfers really and a fraction quicker load times (you can't tell the difference in real world use)
I will never buy a Huwaei laptop again. I was hoping this time they would put AMD in their top models. I think intel payed them not to put AMD in their top moxels. Amd is faster, cheaper and more energy efficient.
Yes it does look great btu this is the review unit I was sent no choice in the colour but that white model looks great. I didn't see it at IFA, but it's not ready just yet?
I can't understand why manufacturers use the 'Pro' term and then put out standard consumer features. It needs PCIe 4.0 and at least 32GB RAM to carry Pro branding. Same thing with the iPad "Pro" using a mobileOS 😏
@@Techtablets good to know, thanks. Apparently, the new Xiaomi 16 inch laptop has a glass touchpad with haptic feedback. It's a feature that would sway me to a Windows laptop.
ive had to return mine unfortunately, as it has the single worst screen ive seen in my entire life, haha lmfao „reflections arent so bad” my ass - „glossy” is an understatement for this screen, it’s literally a freaking mirror even on the max brightness. Don’t let paid reviews done after 15 minutes of usage fool you guys, if you arent a masochist who enjoys insane screen glare, then do. not. touch. this. product. which is a bloody shame, because other than it being absolutely unusable without an external monitor, it is pretty much perfect in all other aspects.
@@chromaetheral yeah I use a privacy protector due to work and it’s not an issue for me but then I also have the blue one the screen is great workout the protector.
