I just found your channel. Nice work on the hubud series. Hubud, IMHO, is one of those grossly misunderstood drills that provides jump off opportunities for so much. Thanks for your variations.

Hubud is similar to your basic 4-count stick sinawali. And in my opinion one of the best defenisively offensive maneuvers that one can employ. The "Bela Lugosi' option of throwing the elbow over the top and opening up the opponent to a second, either straight or rising, elbow would be an excellent addition to this. Also, I would like to see some foot trapping included. If you are going in, you don't want him backing away and giving himself more space to move. This can all be done in a nice flow, but can be done on a harder spectrum to illicit the head drop for the 2nd elbow.

Great comment. Yes, many people do not realize that Hubud and sinawali are the same. If you check out the second vid in the series you’ll see some elbow strikes. That’s a great point about foot traps. I’ll try to make a video on that.

The all high variation flanking to your right is an excellent default defence and counter that deals with any punches, grabs etc. Adding a rear (left) leg knee counters any lowline shoot.

@@SabeelCombatives though I think it is actually better to bring the 2nd arm up elbow high to cover the lower face (the Dracula cape entry) over the 1st pak sao hand, rather than this silat/Kali under arm move, which I feel is still open to getting hook punched.

Great videos.. Hubbud is a very good drill for development of a flowing-defensive-offense. . I grew up in Fresno, next time I go back to visit family in Fresno/Clovis area id like to stop by for a training session...
