My grandfather was a Station Master for the Lancashire and Yorkshire railway. One of the last stations he was at, was Berry Brow. Nice to see views of some of the things I remember.
I watched this as a railway fan,and Huddersfield Town fan. But what really grabbed my attention was, the Rippon Brothers building and sign, i remember as a 16 years old drivers mate, delivering there.
Thank you for creating this. The LNWR Webb 0-6-2 loco/train was typical for them, made up from whatever coaches where coupled on at branch junction stations and it would manage the heady full speed of around 25mph. The LNWR mixed trains are a sight to behold, coaches and wagons added along the line. They could end up with a couple of clerestory coaches followed by a couple cattle wagons, then another type of coach, then mineral wagons and more coaches. The loco and the first coaches were braked then nothing untill the Brake van or coach at the end. these traveled so slowly that the cameras of the day took photographs without motion blur so 15-20mph. Imagine how long you would have to wait at each branch junction station while the train was added to by a shunter (if lucky) or the train loco was uncoupled and used as the shunter. And we complain when our hour or so journey between cities is 5 minutes late. Nice to see the L & Y locos in there too as they shared lines with LNWR. Thank you once again, stick with it and may your subscriber numbers grow.
Thank you so much for making this slide show. It really brighten up my morning. Most of these photos are new to me. Is that Netherton at 4'28? Love the shot of the enthusiasts rail tour on the Newtown Goods line and best Holmfirth station I've ever seen!
Wish there were similar excellent documents like this one on Guildford and one on Brighton…. The music chosen is superb too - any info’ on its composer and what it is called? Thanks a million for showing it for our enjoyment!
