I do believe you have successfully convinced me... To stick with a traditional pole barn building! 😂
@TractorTimewithTim
@TractorTimewithTim 3 года назад
Think so? It all depends on your situation. How long you need it, etc. We just don’t know what we need long term. We believe this will be great for a few years. By then, we’ll know if we want permanent structure, or if we won’t need any structure at all. If we built what we THINK we want right now, it would be $120,000 or so! We may find that we don’t need that at all. I hope that makes sense.
@petenolte4192
@petenolte4192 3 года назад
@@TractorTimewithTim another point is that a permanent building will increase the value of the property if you want to think long term but also increases property taxes too

@@TractorTimewithTim Yep, cost makes sense. Let me rephrase my comment; "You have convinced me, whether the ShelterLogic or traditional pole barn, to hire the labor and watch it being erected!" LOL

@@TractorTimewithTim I think you've hedged your bets well with this solution. You may say "should've gone whole hog and built permanent" in 5 years. Or you may say "man, what were we thinking? We're not getting younger and this TTWT thing works better scaled back." Either way, the regret isn't severe. You never know what life will throw at you, nor what will make you happy and fulfilled in the future. Sure glad your heart's in a good place now; you'll get to see how you feel in 5 years...because you'll be alive!

Tractor Time with Tim I think this is a pretty good temporary solution. This will help you figure out how much space you really want under roof and give you a bit more time to assess your overall needs. I sure do hope we eventually get to see you build your dream shop and follow that process. Don't have experience with ShelterLogic specifically, but these types of buildings can last a long time if installed well. My aunt and uncle had their boat in one for probably 15 years and it was doing just fine until a huge storm stole the tarp 😂

When the sun comes out crank those ratchets a few clicks every half hour or so. The tarp should tighten right up. Or throw some heaters inside. The heat will rise and soften more at the highest point than the lower half. You want the top to pull more over the end hoops, the sides look pretty good. Great job Tim, by you and your team!

Hi Tim. I live in CT not far from where the Shelter Logic factory is. Although my tent is considerably smaller than yours at 18W x 24L x 12H the theory and maintenance is still the same. Sunshine and warm weather is your friend when it comes to the install of the covering. During the install of your cover I see heavy cloud cover. I would suggest the next warm day, pull and tighten the roof again, you will be surprised at how you can make it drum tight. Also as winter approaches I use silicone spray on the zippers to stop them, from icing and freezing. Glad you are feeling well and please be careful.

Thank you Tim and Family for your channel. I have learned a great deal from you. I have a small place with 20 acres in East Texas. One of the things that I appreciate the most is that you are a believer and that you post bible verses at the end of each episode. As I was watching this episode The verse from II Corinthians 5: 1-2 was extremely relevant for me as my mother passed away this evening. She was 93 years old and taught me to love Jesus. I am sad, but not distraught, I am rejoicing that she is in her eternal house in heaven. God Bless you and your family.

I found it fairly easy to put the roof tarp on in summer. Replacing in winter though a real challenge on a 10 x 12. I ended up using a buddy heater inside and warming it up. The tarp allowed enough stretch to make it possible. A couple diesel heaters inside yours would have made a world of difference.

You could of done is wait for the circus to come to town and hire a few of the elephants, they work for peanuts! Years back I helped a friend rig one up to cover a 45' lobster boat he was rebuilding. We built the frame around the boat and with the tarp folded we lifted it up over the end of the frame the unfurled it length wise one frame at a time. We rented 2 man lifts that worked each side of the boat. the four of us were able to get it done and cinched in about 4 hours, then it was pizza and beer time! Nice work!!! Best Regards, Jay

I would say some additional loops on the ends, sowed/graphed(preferably on the inside so once your done they are contained in the building) to the canvas would make that easier to stretch. IE, 3 sets of loops on the ends that you could get a tow rope or d ring thru would make that much easier. If they ask for feed back, you should suggest it. otherwise the assembly looked fairly straight forward. It really is amazing what a group of people who don't know any better can get accomplished :)

Great video! I installed a Hoop 20x30 shelter( not shelter logic). by my self and they are a bear. I spiked it down with 3' rebar stakes,36 in total. What I did to get the hoop bars up was to duck tape 2 pieces of long PVC to the top of the hoop Then tape a 3rd piece of PVC to the other side of the hoop As I pulled the hoop with the 3rd PVC the 2 others dragged in the ground till they got straight where I wanted them. I then locked the 3rd PVC in the ground What I did to get the top tarp up and over was to connect a 20' piece of pipe to the tarp that starts off I connected that pipe to the tarp.I then connected 3 ropes to the pipe I then tossed the ropes over the structure I then connected the ropes to my zero turn mower SLOWLY I moved forward, It went up pretty easy after that. The biggest problem I had was evening out the end panels. I stretched them to tight with the cheesy rope that came with it and the zipper got misaligned I 86ed the rope and used heavy duty cable/zip ties to adjust the end panels in and out Came out fine The directions were terrible Hope my ideas helps someone

I think for 6 people who had never put one of these things up you all did a real good job. Not that it matters now, but I was just wondering if a couple large torpedo heaters in there with it all closed up would have helped balloon that thing up enough to make it stretch easier over the ends. I'm guessing you wont be going back out to try it over again.

Do a job like this on a hot sunny day and the tarp will stretch a lot easier. Expect it to last about 12 years. At that point you will have some small holes in it and then the tarp will let go one cold winter day with a snow load.

From the comfort of my chair... I think I would have tried loosening the end hoop, lean it towards the second hoop, attach the tarp, then pull the hoop back into position with the tractor and reattach the end hoop and braces. I wonder if a big backpack blower applied to the inside surface of the tarp might have helped float the tarp so it could be shifted? Clearly that was a tough job!

Are the door kits put on yet?

So in retrospect if had paid very close attention to where the tarp was positioned when you put it over the hoops to have it “centered” more - would that have made a big difference or is the stretching hassle just fundamentally gonna have to happen?

The directions show you pulling it nicely over the top with both ends easily dangling over. Sure didn’t work that way for us.

Understand. And since the instructions were void of words It could not tell you to strive hard to center and stretch along the way.

Would not have been able to stretch while pulling. The added tension creates friction on the hoops.

Was the door on both ends an option you had to call in for or do they come with 2 doors? I'm getting one soon and would love to have 2 doors

That looks to be a well deigned and well made structure, for this category. However, the instruction manual needs a LOT of work. I downloaded the manual and jumped back and forth between the manual and your videos. After a few passes thru, it is starting to make sense. What you should do now is take it down, make a video of the best way to set it up, and then sell the video to ShelterLogic to accompany their manual!

Hey, if it comes to visit, we’ll have a place to shelter it!!!

It does remind me of the WWII era blimp hanger that is about a mile from my home... That was galvanized though. Maybe the shelter company could offer a faux galvanized cover for a nostalgic look? ;~)

I think a leaf blower or two would have worked in place of the paint roller

Wonderful! The only issue is the ends. They are worthless. The hoops and main canvas have worked very well! Not sure if the ttwt discount is still valid, but I hope so for you!

I do not see a Shelter Logic barn in my future! Seems SL needs better methods. Of course if it were a hot sunny day, you'd have had "extra" canvas probably.
