Sandi, I always enjoy your art haul videos because I know that not only do you show us the unboxing, but you also test the products extensively before you post the review. That information is always helpful and welcome!
I paint a lot and struggle with pricing my work. Would you consider talking about how you arrive at a price point for you work? Always appreciate hearing your views on supplies and creative process. Would love it if you shared a bit on the business end as well. Fridays are Fri-yays when Sandi posts!!!
Adding in my support for a business video. So often this topic is just not covered and it’s an essential part of being able to continue to have a productive studio art practice. I look forward to seeing it in the future.
Thanks Sandi. Love your art hauls. We are all addicted to art supplies anyway, so don't feel you encourage it. If anything your reviews help to make better decisions on what to buy allowing less waste. Have a great weekend 😀
Everything looks beautiful behind you on your easel !! I like art hauls. I like to hear what you like and dislike. I can not buy everything all the time, but when I can (and oh! believe me I have!) its nice to have someone's input on things. And when I absolutely can not buy anything! I like watching what other people have bought, I really do! :0)
Sandi don’t feel guilty about showing the art supplies! It helps me decide what to buy and what not to buy. Then I get the good stuff that I need when I can. I mostly work in watercolor and ink, but that light body liquitex looks like something fun to try in the future. Keep the hauls coming! They are very informative. 💗
You could paint the fake bananas so they look more real. That weird thing on the top that holds then together is real but often darker brown and green and black then it looks like the real thing!
And just before Black Friday, too. Bad Sandy 🤣 No, actually these hauls and reviews are super duper helpful to make informed decisions about art supplies, keep them coming. Sending Love!!!
I love your art hauls because they motivate me to get out the materials I already have. I did buy the 'cheap paper' and love it. I have a bunch of leather and am going to make sketching journals for Christmas gifts and it will be perfect to work with. I have put it thru the paces with watercolor, pencil, charcoal, oil pastels and now am going to get out my acrylics and maybe even my oils. They say you can't paint on paper with oils, but I do. lol Have yourself a Blessed day and thank you.
Nooo nooo nooo please continue with the art hauls. There very informative. They help me decide if I really want a particular art item. Please keep them
I have a problem - I love watching your hauls because of your child-like glee and it makes me want to play with art supplies - but also makes me want to buy art supplies!! I was in Nashville early June and spent so much of my time at Jerry’s. I wish I had watched your videos before I went for my visit. Edit to add: just saw the end where you apologized for tempting us, lol. Please don’t stop sharing. It adds to my cumulative knowledge and I just pulled out my supplies in my deep drawers that have been neglected (aka Liquitex soft bodied paints I bought on clearance 10 years ago) - so you’ve even saved me money!!
I have the same paint brush bucket and I cut a sponge to be the exact shape of the wipey weird shaped area and stuck it in there and it works perfectly to dab and wipe my brushes off of when my brushes need less water or a wipe off!! Just an idea for you! Love the art supply hauls btw!!
Thanks for sharing all the beautiful Art supply Haul. I love your Art haul, keep doing it! Thank you for sharing! Your are extraordinary beautiful and a big Help.🤗🙏👍🏻🎵🎵🎵
Your channel has inspired me to buy several large enamel trays to use as palettes. But I bought them cheap, vintage and used, so no guilt here. It's been a game changer for me to have larger palettes for gouache.
Omg!!!! I laughed out loud at your commentary throughout this video!! I love how you share so much content and personal opinions! You’re fun and inspiring and yes you make me want to try products but hey, nothing wrong with that!! 😁💖
Great haul review, bucket looks brilliant. Dr. Sandi Hester surgeon extrordinaire, fake fruit is such a good idea for still lives especially when they can stay around looking shiney ☀️forever ❤️ thank you for bringing sunshine into rainy Friday night
Yes I love the art hauls! I look at it as a great source of information. If I’m tempted to go on a major art supply spree, that’s gonna be my issue! And I haven’t done that so thank you, thank you for all the tips and great info. I will be able to enjoy buying more supplies when it’s right for me, but now I’ll be much more knowledgeable, and get what I will use! ❤
Loved the art haul!!! Yes I do buy a lot of what you recommend. You have great taste. My order from Jerry's Artarama came in and I bought the yellow oxide like yours. And of course, 8 other colors. Just tested them. Love them. Bought the art Graf watercolor graphite pan. Love it. And bought the caran d' ache 18 Pablo pencils. Love them. Just testing right now and some other things. It was an early Christmas gift. Love your jewelry. Hobby Lobby has a lot of beautiful fabric. I worked there many years ago. At Christmas time they had some vintage Christmas fabric. Love everything you teach us. Thank you so much for taking the time. ❤🎃🍁
Oh my gosh, what a Fabulous Friday with Sandi!! I love your art hauls and the fake fruit, wow! I may have to look for some of those. Your table still lifes are my favorite. I just cracked up at your headband of the fabric, love it and I agree that that fabric would be great for lots of things. Thank you so much Sandi for your love of art and the creativity that you bring every week. 🍌 🍓 🍊
Great haul! I didn't know that titanium white could be warm, just never even crossed my mind, how did I miss that 😆 Opens up a new world! And I can't get the small tubs of liquitex soft body here in Norway, unfortunately, but luckily Lascaux Studio (that is actually professional grade) is a soft body paint, and dries satin. (If anyone else has my "problem":)
@@sandihester Yeah, I see them on Blick... I do add some fluid medium/water still, cause I want a very specific consistency ;) but they are aaaalmost there 👍 Can't promise as strong pigments as Liquitex though, as I can't compare them 😇
Let’s discuss how many times I’ve had that water bucket in my hand and I’ve put it back thinking do I actually really need this?!!! Apparently I do, so thank you for the information. You got me hooked on the Liquitex Soft Body paints a while ago 🧡 I’d be interested on your opinion of what colours are a “must have” for a minimal/mixing palette. I don’t have an art store anywhere near me and trying to pick colours online can be tough 🎨
That is so funny! I can’t remember all the names off the top of my head but the car yell, magenta something and French ultra could be a REAL minimal palette
Do Not let anyone make you feel bad. I don't have a lot of money but I buy what I can afford, sometimes, I say geez its in my closet , lost. Lol. You are a professional artist that sells your work, awesome. I enjoy your videos. You buy acrylic paint, I buy folk art brand 😉. I seem to always get a laugh from you, those bananas, a toothpick ??? And that was a funky square holding it. I bet you could have made your own with air dry clay 😁 Anyway have a great weekend !!!
To be honest this doesn't hurt my pocket since I take more like a guide for (maybe) future purchases. I like this type of videos because you swatch colours and try different products! 🥰
a really helpful video Sandi. thank you. Could you maybe show how to make that gorgeous head wrap! Your mum does nice work. I totally agree with the thickness of matisse paint. thought it was just me. very helpful. cheers!
This was a complete delight!!!! I love the M. Graham acrylics! I happen to have a tube of Derivan Matisse and never noticed the flip top!!!! How fun is that? Thanks Sandi!! This actually helps me to know what to get when I need more supples.
Your art hauls help me buy fewer things, I can get almost the same joy just watching you enjoy the supplies, don’t need to do it myself. Plus you actually use your art supplies all the time, so I am happy you try things out for us. Just want to make sure you do not feel bad about it in anyway, you are a great reviewer, thanks for doing it, love your honesty.
My schedule kept me from being able to watch yesterday, but how fun to spend my Saturday coffee with you! Love this art haul! Can't wait to see more of those figures and portraits you've been working on...
Thanks Sandi - love you videos and the trouble you go to make them. Really appreciate your swatching and sharing the products you use - saves expensive mistakes on my part.
I LOVE the Old Holland oils - so yummy ... but I didn't know Old Holland made acrylics! Those greens are so beautiful! I was so excited to see a longer Sandi video - Eeeeeee! x
M. Graham is one of my TOP watercolor loves. 🥰 soooo tempting to see how gorgeous their acrylics are! They will be on my palette soon. And I never really GOT what acrylic medium does, sooo 🙄, I now have some arriving soon. I loved seeing what it does. Big help! And a huge YES to those gorgeous fabrics. 💕
Happy Friday! (Well, it would be if I hadn't been on vacation all week! 😂) Don't worry. I have managed to curb a lot of my temptation urges lately. Which is great since I have so many things to try! I loved the painting you said you sold and the close-up one, if those weren't the same. It looked like it was on wood. I love the green fabric.
M.graham acrylic paint was the one that I had to buy for school and I love it !! Gamblin was the oil paint that we had to get because they are made with natural pigments and my teachers were big on warm and cool colors with natural pigments, it makes your paintings dance and pop. I love your reviews Sandi, I do !! and I do get tempted by them but I know that you are genuine so it actually helps me to save money in the long run. Also at some point, since I shop at the same place as you do I hope to be able to see you and totally ask for a picture because I'm your biggest fan lol.
Love your art haul videos, nothing better than watching other people opening parcels especially when it's full of paper and sketchbooks, oh that lovely smell of new paper. What do you do with all the paints you don't like?
Have you tried Charvin either acrylic or oil paint at Jerry’s? For me, I can’t no longer order from Jerry’s! Since I live in Canada, the shipping fees is about the same as my total cart!!! And in Canadian dollars? I enjoy seeing your shopping’s sprees! At least, your fruits won’t turn bad on you!
Love your hauls- I just like to learn how you select materials, what you use, why you use it, and what you end up not loving. It’s educational. Truly….I’ll be right back, Blick is calling….. 😂
I LOVE the red table painting that you sold! Did you video that one? So gorgeous, and I am not even a red person. I also love the green fabric too. The pattern is captivating! It is always fun to watch a good haul!
Nope nope nope don’t feel guilty. I rely on your opinions during your art hauls! Hope we will see a future video on the gorgeous flower paintings behind you.
Wonderful haul! I'm not too tempted to buy things unless I know I'm going to like them. It's so much fun watching you open new things and try them out! I really hope you'll review the old Holland acrylic at some point.🙏💗 It's hard to find reviews for those in English. I mostly use liquitex and golden. I'm curious how they compare to those brands. Anyhow, happy painting!🎨🖌️ Thanks for sharing the fun!🙌
Love these haul video’s, I am in the Netherlands, so a lot of these brands are not here, but the liquitex is and I love it too. Cooper stole the show this time. Glad you keep him (barging in) in your video’s
Great video Sandi,I found the yellow oxide to be so attractive,I have to have some(Ian doesn’t mind )🤣.As ever I loved the reviews,so good to see the colour swatches. You talked about some colours being shiny,I know what you mean,I get round that by applying a thin coat of Golden acrylic Matt medium,it seems to bring everything together at the end of my paintings. Thanks Sandi,I always look forward to your videos,it was a real reward to me this week after having my Grankids for a sleepover 🤪🤪x
A thought re the bananananans, what about using some polymar clay to change the top of them or an epoxy putty stained with some different shades of brown paint? I love chrome oxide, I use in its pure mined form for making glazes for my pottery, did you know if you mix it with tin oxide you get pink!!!!
Oh I loved this Sandi! Thank you so much. Right now, you have seen my little illustrations, I am using mainly graphite pencils and watercolor pencils. I had Arteza and Prismacolor Col-erase already but I just bought a set of Prismacolor Premier Colored Pencils and Faber-Castell Polychromos. Amazing prices on amazon. I would love to hear more about your use of colored pencils in your sketchbooks and I know I have seen you talk about them in videos but if you have a video that is mainly about colored pencils if you could just share the link I am in love with them now. I NEVER cared to work with colored pencils, I prefer watercolor pencils if I use them, but I hear so many artists I admire using them and I have now got going with them and love them. I am on a very limited budget and can't afford a lot or expensive things but right now, for the illustrations for my book, they are great! Thanks so much for all you do and share with us. Much love! Happy weekend! 🤗💖
I’m so glad I found your channel. You’ve been a new source of inspiration and joy for me in a dark time. I’m typically a landscape watercolorist but I’m gearing up to try matte acrylics. I adore still life paintings and I’ve been feeling like I should give them a go. I’m curious if you have any tips, tricks or criteria that you go by when you paint a still life? I’d love to see a video on that subject. Thanks again ❤️
There are tips spread all through my videos about still life’s. I’m going to be doing a workshop online in the spring on still lifes. I’m so sorry it’s been a dark time!! I’m glad this channel could provide some inspo though!
Soooooo excited for your videos Sandi you looked like a work of art in your colourful jumper bead necklace and your mammas head scarf she made for you you should do a self portrait of you in this love your art haul banana surgeon. Your dog cracks me up and your expressions when he comes into the room it's like me and my cat he loved to get involved hilarious!!! Thanks for sharing Sandi❤️
You might like Matisse Flow if you don't like their Structure paint. The Flow has a titanium and an unbleached titanium colour (which is like a light skin colour). Great art haul video, I spy a few products I am going to buy now too to try! Love your videos ❤
Love your art hauls! They are so fun and you are so fun! So, this might be weird, but where did you get the clear pencil cases? Just what I need!!! Thank you for sharing!
I love your haul videos because I like watching you use the things you buy. I don't feel the need to buy them although I do have a weak spot when it comes to paper and sketchbooks. LOL Be sure to show us the skirt your sweet momma made. BTW, did you guys ever taste the chow chow? ;-) Don't forget it is a relish for your pinto beans.
I've been binging your videos !!! Love them all... I do have a question... I'm interested in your magnetic wall behind your easel that you put paintings up onto to reference - - I especially LOVE that and want to have that in my own studio - - what is that? What do you use? It looks like its just your wall... How did you get that magnetic? Thank you so very much for all you do !!!
So glad you’re enjoying the videos- thank you for watching!!!! It’s just a thin piece of metal - I think my husband found it in the air conditioning area at the hardware store and we painted it
I love your art hauls! I have a question about the turner gouache. Is it acrylic gouache? That's the only kind I see online in the turner brand and I've only ever used regular gouache.
Hey Sandi - in the bottom of the paint water bucket, is there any texture to help you remove built up paint in the brush? I was thinking about getting one of these and wondered if I should also get one of those paint pucks for the bottom.
@@sandihester thanks Sandi I just watched video where you went on donut date and art museum. The Caterpillar was my favorite book when I was little! So sweet
Awesome haul but I don't like the Mattisse whites. They are smelly and too thick for me. I live in the tropics and can hardly stand the paint. I bought a few different whites from various brands too. I love the Blick and Utrechet paints. I'm referring to Titanium Whites.
structure is supposed to be thick. You should have bought flow for thinner paint. as for smell, it's the pigment load. Higher quality paints have more pigment and titanium dioxide does smell when in contact with different particles. Want no smell, but cheaper paint with less pigment. Know your science, know your paint.
Funny fake fruit surgery but I agree the top of the bananas that you showed are wacky looking 🙄and I would be surprised if your fake fruit 🍎 🍌 DIDN’T come from China. Along with being an artist, I’m a very part-time vintage reseller and whenever I come across fake fruit/fake veggies…usually vintage (typically 20 yrs or older)…plastic, ceramic or whatever in the thrift store, I will usually buy it (most often for myself) if it’s in decent shape and reasonably priced. You can get FF & FV on Ebay & Etsy, but you’re probably gonna pay up for it. The best VINTAGE FF/FV was likely made in the good ole USA back in the day (I wish it still was ☹️). Really, how can anyone live without fake fruit or veggies? P.S. painting the fabric: I know it’s not your thing, but as I’m sure you know some mixed media artists/collage artists will actually use the fabric itself in their art which gives an interesting and dimensional look too. But I won’t start commenting on fabric b/c I’m a bit of fabriholic from my quilting days…so I’ve got a lot and have begun to destash.😕 “gotta let it go…let it go….”
