So heres the problem with Marner. When the leafs have a good game , and theyre winning 6-1 Marner gets 3-4 pts. , But when the chips are down and the scores 2-1 or 1-0 Marner cannot find the scoresheet. If Marner stepped up in big games when the score is close nobody would have an issue.
As a Blues fan I wouldn't want to give up Parayko and Toropchenko for Marner. I like both Blues players. I see Toropchenko being potentially a 30 goal scorer if given more ice time and Parayko is a big defenseman with good speed--that's hard to beat. Parayko could be a little tougher/meaner, but that's not his personality.

if he's really asking for 9m, that would explain it. he's never been more than a tandem goalie. he's absolutely capable of being a starter, he just hasn't done it yet. his resume is not even close to that ask. offer a 6x6. if he turns that down, let him sit until he comes to his senses.
Regardless of what they get back in a trade IF they trade mitch you're gonna be taking a step back. Its hard too replace what he does and the amount of points he puts up. Loosing him for nothing is the problem but that is the leafs fault.
Sprong is a black hole defensively. There's a reason it took him so long to get signed. He'll give you some goals, sure, but he'll cost you some too. I was hyped for him at the start of the season, but his lack of defense caught up to him so much that he was frequently a healthy scratch towards the end of the season in Detroit.
Parayko is a need on every team. Hard pressed times find any team willing to move a strong RD in and around their prime that fits in their top 4. Comparing Marner to Ovi lol
If the leafs are going to lose this trade, it must be to get a 2nd line center that is considered to be one of the best 2nd line centers available as part of the package, because that's what they need, which would let them move Tavares down the lineup. They could also use a 2nd line LW as part of the deal, just because I don't think you can rely on Cowan playing this year. Personally, I don't see them making this trade. A 2nd line center has to come back.
The may have got a guy for the 2nd line. Leafs signed F Niktia Grebyonkin to 3 years entry level contract and Grebyonkin is top LW in the KHL who could be the 2nd line and leafs need a top left winger to play with Matthew it been a problem since Hyman left because of Dubas and have 2 Right wingers taking 22m aav cap space is not good thing trade one and get a top left winger to change to a Proper Core that As Top LW, Top C, Top RW Top LD, Top RD Top Goalie That want the leafs need to do to the core
At this point similar PLD when went LA. I dont think Marner will waive his No Trade he will just spite put up 90+ pts walk free agency. And teams he most likely would go to maybe low taxes,contenders,weather. Cant aquire him now big move needed cap wise. Or would just say lets wait til next years free agency aquire for free.
Yes, Marner gets points, but only cause he plays with offensive players. They carry him! If he actually engaged himself how much better they could all can be. Remember, there's actually video of him taking the long route to avoid contact, so don't anyone try to pretend we don't know what we're talking about!

Tavares is still elite...The problem has been the team barely gets him the puck in scoring positions or the high slot and he'll win puck battles and center it while the reset of the forwards are no where to be found...it's as if they don't want to play with the guy...but it's brutal to watch..I think this coaching change will help a lot

The Blues are rebuilding. The farm system is loaded. I just can not see them going for Marner right now. Although, Faulk/Saad for Marner is interesting, but I can not see Toronto doing that. Plus, Marner is overpaid. The money he might ask for is ridiculous. Blues do not.need that contract.

Call crazy but I wouldn’t want marner for Parayko straight up. Parayko is a premier shut down 1d who eats tons of minutes and who’s shot if not accurate is scary.
If Marner refuses to waive then I would wait till the day after the trade deadline then send him at the AHL ,if they cant do that then stick him on the 4th line and make him a healthy scratch in the playoffs.
The last 6-8 seasons the Leafs haven’t done $?/! They MUST move one of the top guys . All the points during reg season don’t mean anything . Leafs window is closing they better improve the team for the playoffs now . The Tanev pick up is a move in the right direction. All of this is easier said than done .
As far as Marner goes you aren't going to get better moving him. That's not going to happen. You need to get out of that mindset. The mindset needs to be if you don't think you can win with this guy you need to move on. Look at the Bruins Joe Thornton deal. Did they regret doing it? Well it immediately got the GM fired and what not so clearly yes. But what it did was open up the cap space to get Chara and Savard which allowed them to build towards winning a cup. And they were right about Thornton no one ever won with him. That's where Toronto needs to be if they are going to do it. They are going to lose the trade 100%. They aren't going to get better. But it lets you start moving in another direction.

Since the Leafs can't go back in time and sign better contracts, let's focus on the here and now. Bottom line is if the Leafs want to trade Marner they're going to have to accept the fact they're going to lose the trade no matter what. GMs know the situation they're in, and they aren't going to give up a ton to get him when they can wait and see if he walks next year and make him an offer. Winning the trade and getting assets isn't as important as what the Leafs could buy with the money they'll have. But at this point it's probably too late because the best UFAs are snatched up.
There is no way he waives to go to the Blues. He will want to go to a contender. Likely a tax friendly location. Florida, Tampa or Vegas would be most likely.
From trade rumors that if leafs trade Marner leafs looking for in trade rumors that leafs want Top player that can play Center or LW or both and young player in Nhl or prospect and conditional 2nd round pick that if Marner resign with team that aquire him it turn into a 1st and 3rd round pick without an extension and 25% retain or a 1st round pick and conditional 3rd pick if the team that aquire Marner make to playoff it turn into a 2nd and with an extension in place and 35% Retain if true or not we will see?
And a team to keep an eye on is Jets they are looking to change their core forwards same as leafs and could be good trade partner for the leafs in a Marner trade or trade in general
Marner is a highly skilled player, and Leafs would lose any trade, but... too much salary on 4 players, the so called "core". Handcuffs the leafs on getting quality depth to the roster, which is vital to becoming a serious contender. Leafs definitely created this mess themselves. Time to trade Marner was last spring, before his no move clause kicked in on July 1/23. Now they have no control or leverage, Marner has all of it. Doubt he waives his no move. Weird how Leafs seem afraid to approach him even for a list of teams he might go to.

So I think Leafs could make this a larger deal. Robertson for Torpchenko. Marner for Jake Neighbors, prospect Otto Stenberg and the Blues 2025 1st round pick. If Leafs could get Pareyko for Liligren and Blues pick up $2M/yr on the contract then they should do it.
The question really isn’t should Toronto move marner they probably have little choice. They can’t let him walk for nothing. Personally I don’t think Parayko and torochenko is enough and I’m a blues fan. I don’t see Armstrong doing anything for a one year rental. Thats not going to happen. Marner best chance to cash in on UFA is with Toronto, he will get the crazy points through Toronto then any other team, so why would he lift his no trade clause. The Leafs have a history of bad trades and bad draft choices. Marner is a top playmaker, with a good playoff record; uninformed fans are the ones trying to move him, but Shanahan and gang are incompetent enough to make a trade involving some draft picks, which they can trade away or make bad picks. The Leafs without Marner are much weaker; it makes more sense to trade NYLANDER for a top goalie. Leafs have THREE SECOND-STRING GOALIES AND NO #1. STILL.

sprong bounces around from team to team because he is probably the NHL's worst defensive player. and while he's offensively gifted, he doesn't score enough for teams to overlook that.

"Can't let Marner walk for nothing" isn't a thing. Sure they can. There will be several UFAs next offseason that his massive cap would accommodate. This is his last crack in Toronto....if he's a bust in the playoffs, the Leafs won't offer him more than he makes now....On purpose, so he walks.

I review information from connected NHL Insiders and various reporters / writers. I give my analysis of the information. In this case I stated where the information and suggested trade came from. Then I offered my opinion on whether this would be a good move. Clearly some of you must leave comments without paying attention, listening to what I say or understanding what my channel is really about. Also I've discussed tons of players over the years who have been traded, sometime the rumours turned out to be true and sometimes then ended up going somewhere else but you have to understand when a good player is available for trade there is often tons of interest so lots of rumours pop up with different teams interested. I talk about what is rumoured around the league for conversation purposes, it's just to talk and offer opinions that's it, not trying to say I am always right since the information I am reviewing isn't coming from me.
Great report Mike! Heh.....it's fun to yack about the hypothetical situations. Here's my thoughts: 1. Marner will play out his contract and walk leaving Leafs with NADA!!!! In the meantime....he will attract the ire of Leafs Nation, and he'll be hated and reviled for the rest of his life. He might as well leave the TO area and move to Yellowknife!!! He'll never get his # retired by Leafs. He'll have another good regular season and then vanish like a fart in the wind come playoff time as he does every season. Leafs will end up skunked in this mess.
