There’s a button u can push on the throttle so you can rev it with out it going in gear. Boats will not start if the throttle is in forward or reverse it needs to be in neutral

When you took off from the yard, you forgot to strap the rear of the boat down to the trailer. when attempting to start you need to put water muffs on so you don't burn up the impeller.

Push the white button in at the bottom of the throttle. That allows you to move up the throttle without it being in gear

Make sure you have the prop and low unit in a barrel of water when starting out of the water. Most boat motors are water cooled.

When an engine sits that long you want to shoot some oil in the cylinders to lube them and increase compression to get it to start. You can score the cylinder walls with dry piston rings scraping the cylinder walls when they sit for too many years.

Hey man for boats yrs there like house yrs it can be 30 yrs old and still have a nice haul as long as it doesn’t have wood in the haul like a scarab 89 and older were basically wood with fiberglass over it and that rots I had to change the back part transom cost me 7000 on my 31ft 89 scarab

Tacoma might move it just wont stop it. Looks like somebody bought and barely used it galley and wetbath are spotless. Engine didn't puke out rusty scale from salt water. Good buys are to be had at salvage. Fit it up with fishing gear and have fun

You are going to need a water pump in the outdrive now that you have ran it without water

It's not the pulling the boat , it's the stopping it that counts

You never put the boat in gear and spin the outdrive with it in the raised position! Even with that you can hear the outdrive is noisy. Probably from sitting with water in it.

Make sure you dont dry start it and take out the plug to drain it, respond if you need any answers I would love to help you out

Cleen it up nice and you need water going to it if you start it even if you start it for a miniut without water youll kill the water pump bro ive lerned that one.

I wouldn't start it without water even for just a second. Also try to keep from putting it into gear out of water as much as possible

I had to stop the video I couldn't bare to watch you guys mess up this boat. You don't ever even attempt to start a motor of any kind that has been sitting for any length of time especially one that you know has been sitting for yrs before you go through the fuel system can you imagine what that fuel is like after sitting for at the least 10 yrs. You all have a lot to learn good luck and Becareful. Even though it runs have a professional look over the whole boat before you even attempt to put it in the ocean just remember the ocean and lakes can be very unforgiving and at times very scary

Your dad was right that your Tacoma could not tow that boat but you definitely don't need a E350. I had the exact same boat years ago and towed it with a V-8 Durango.

For everyone saying a Tacoma can pull this, the commercials advertise massive GVWR but legally you'd probably need at least a normal 1500 truck for local launches and probably at least a 2500 gas if taking it on trips. That boat weighs around 8000-8500lbs or so doesn't it?

Need to replace the water pump, outdrive fluid, oil, gas, water separator filter(fuel filter), rebuild the carb, and you'll be good to go. Great engine, I have the same VP on my wellcraft and it runs perfectly. It's just a Chevy 5.7 liter as you probably know. I think you stole it!

It’s best not to engine in that height of a tilt on the motor .. it binds the drive shaft joints.. that’s what that rattle is..

U can't run the boat motor with out water it will smoke the water pump in the tail shaft..make shure it dont get hot and it not worth 6 grand its a cash cow...

#1 killer of i/o boat motors: freeze damage. Folks, winterize your boats. And if you don't cover your boat don't expect your interior to stay nice. Even with a roof overhead a cover will keep all that dust and dirt out/off. Oh, by the way, you can have a trashed propulsion unit (stern drive) and have no way of knowing until trying it on the water; which is strangely missing on yhis video. That's the number 2 "MECHANICAL" way i/o drives die.

its a 24 foot boat......5000 pounds....you could have easily towed it with any 1/2 ton truck. Volvo penta marine engines are not made by volvo they are just small/Big block chevys with the volvo name on them by the way. Same with mercruiser its just a SB/BBC ford motor. To the other posters saying he burned the drive up. You arent going to burn anything up except the fresh water pump impeller running it for 30 seconds from cold

You are unlikely to get $15k for that. It's still old. My friend's pristine Donzi only went for $8k and he was the only owner and it had the duo prop. The Yukon XL I had was only rated for 8,100 pounds so your father was probably right. The stability issue should be handled with a load distributing and anti sway hitch. I use a Reese Steadi-Flex and it makes the world of difference. I tow a 7500 pound trailer and I have never had any sway issues, even dragging it across the country with big rigs passing by and side winds. Even when I blew a tire, I only knew from the noise of the blowout, the trailer never twitched. When the engine is running the water should be coming out of the prop if the water is being forced fed to the cooling inlets. Something not right there. Or maybe it just hadn't run long. But with our Volvo v8 that's how it worked.
