I listen to books due to my job. Libby is a huge help in consuming books, even those I have on my shelves. If I love the book and want to read it again, I'll keep them. If I don't, I'll donate them. I wish booktubers would go through their shelves more often. There are a lot of pretty covers, but I can't just keep them because of that. I have a small collection of books and I'm adding to those when I read a great book.
I'm at the stage where I have a very conservative approach to the books I own. I don't want to have books that are "ok". The book must be "that thing" for me. I recommend this approach, seriously. It's nice to have a lot of books, but at the end of the day - what's the point? Because they look nice? Oh, and I'm also guided by the question "will I read it again?" If not, the book goes away (or I don't buy it, I just borrow it). That's why there are no crime novels on my shelf (because if I know the solution to the crime/riddle, what it's fun to read again) and horror stories (I won't be as scared the second time, because I know what and how). PS. At a time when everywhere on Tiktok and Instagram I see people with bookshelves covering the entire room and several copies of one title - I'm very happy that I came across a person who gets rid of books, and not just buys them! Love it!
