I need the portraits back so bad. I have 0 motivation to talk to the townspeople or even get married and usually that's one of my favorite aspects of these games. Good to see more dialogue but the characters feel so lifeless
Everytime I go talk to Ralph (who is mostly in the forest) I get nice close up of trees. Lmao that's it. It moves the camera to close up but doesn't work well in the trees. That wouldn't be a problem if there was character portraits. Besides they had more facial expression with the portrait and it was adorable when they blush
@@Emily-lh6em Yeah the north part of town is a mess haha. If it wasn't for the town map showing where everyone was I'd probably get lost trying to look for people like Ralph :p
I feel the dialog is what makes them lifeless, I'm fine without having portraits it's not a necessity to having an engaging character I've played several text base rpgs that don't have any portraits or sprites or anything amd their characters are fine. At most some of them have a single static portrait. What we really need is diverse responses from them that actively change based on your relationship with the character, dating or good friends with a villager? A simple "Hi" is far too bland, actually married to them? Any marriage where how you greet your spouse is "Hi how are you?" Is doomed. I'd much rather they take the time to put in a heavy amount of new text than compromise with "oh we added portraits so now we're ok to put in less work with text"
Aww, that was actually one of the changes I enjoyed. Its propably just a "me problem" but in video games where you don't have to press a button, I accidently go into different areas so often and have to go right back... And with long loading times that is really painful 😅 But if it makes the game more enjoyable to most other people, I am still glad they are listening to the community :)
The patch I want most is cutting back on the respawn of trees, rocks, and grass. I also want makers to be able to go on a single block and be crammed together, I'm sick of having a field of ugly machines.
Never really thought about that but damn, when you're kind of done building on your land those things really get in the way! And sometimes you don't want to clog up the screen with custom floors/makers/decorations, which right now is the only way to combat those pesky plants
It would be cool to get a late game item that would stop/slow this buildup. I kind of like the mechanic, but I do think we should be able to earn a way to have a clean farm.
I just wish there was more festivals. I know in HM:ANB they had about 7-8 festivals a season (yes thats including the animal, crops, seasonal, and just the chill festivals). Though here it’s just 2...mini games and romantic. DONT get me wrong I love the mini games just wish there was more festivals to interact with.
"Give us a damn sort function for our inventory!" I mean even Harvest Moon One World has it. I've spoken with people online about it. They all agreed it was needed.
I really feel like this game is soo rushed like i dont mind waiting till June or whenever they wanna release it as long as the game is amazing with character portraits, less makers, less cooking time, more festivals and many many many more that they need to fix and add. This feels more like a demo of the game rather than the actual game itself.
Yeah have to agree. I think the release of Harvest Moon: One World had something to do with it too. Like, that game released on March 2nd and on March 1st we saw a bunch of streamers get early access to PoOT and play it on Twitch. Could just be a coincidence, but given the history of both games I don't think so :p But hey - glad they're at least making the game better post-release :)
a major part of the issue is that they outsourced PoOT to a smaller studio whose only games are licensed anime games for 3ds, psp, and mobile RPGs, so they dont have like any experience making anything like harvest moon OR even something like writing original characters. I'm assuming they were only hired because they were cheap to hire. This is asking way to much from a small company like this. they have made less than 10 games total, this is their first Switch game, this is their first time writing characters that didnt already exist (except for DLC) the characters final renders are made by Igusa Matsuysma, but its pretty clear that they were at least partially designed by the team which is why theyre all...very bland looking. I dont know, I would have bren fine waiting for them to finish RF5 before starting on a new SoS game instead of stooping so low.
@@aibogoku7730 I didn't know that but it makes a lot of sense! Also sounds a bit like weird choice to make for a franchise that carries so much weight on its shoulders but yeah if you're working on 2 main titles at once it takes a big toll on the employees (and money). All we can hope at this point is that they use the profits made to improve the game and learn their lesson for future games
I want a more clean crafting menu. It's such a mess of trying to find what you want to make considering recipes unlock as you level up skills. So it's hard to find things.
Good point - at the start it's okay but as you start unlocking things it can get out of hand quickly lol. Simple tabs with categories or sorting options would go a long way!
@@Swrinny exactly. Having tabs for all ths skills separate would help a lot. Or just having it organized automatically as you unlock things would work.
Am I the only one who has an issue with furniture?? I don't even really but it anymore cause I thought I could place it wherever but it only allows placement in the bottom left corner like why 😭
Yeah I'm not sure why they chose this lol. Early on you can create a cute looking Chicken rug, but you have to upgrade your house until it has a second floor before you can even use it. And then you can also use it on the second floor :(
I hate that i cant rotate furniture. I have the biggest house, that comes with this giant side room on the bottom floor and I have absolutely nothing in there because I can't rotate the couches
I wish they brought back the little pictures during dialogue. That was a big part of harvest moon back in the day. I was so happy they kept the dialogue pics in SoSFoM but.. now they even took this from us :( i like pioneers of olivetown but its still so static and i believe even an update on dialogue is not gonna fix this. Its lost its vivid appearance. Also the characters arent as cute as they used to be. I liked the small figures with an slightly oversized head. Remember Harvest moon DS, jeez how much i loved the game. 2D bird perspective with cute harvest sprites, lovely dialogues and pictures.. i feel like its all gone.
Harvest moon's style has varied a lot over years. It hasn't always been "slightly oversized heads," although that was one of the more common designs. I do agree the characters don't draw me in, though.
Yeah that's so weird haha. "Here, you can choose where you want this item to be displayed!" "Great! I actually just found something new and want to group it with that other items so it looks better, can move this around once more?" "NO"
I'm super poor right now so I've been waiting to buy the game... seems like I made the right call to wait. I will definitely at least wait until 1.5 is out. This video was really good! I'm surprised by how small your channel is, you deserve more subscribers
good video man ! i like that Marvelous is trying to fix some problems, but man... the frame drops in this game are really bad, i hope they fix that soon :(
I want the ability to read the description of items when putting them in or taking them out of chests. I think that wouldn't be hard to put in a patch. Maybe the ability to build shipping boxes, so I could have one on each plot of land if I want and it would increase the amount of items I can ship. Also make it where items stay inside of chests and animals in barns if you don't put them in inventory so fixing up your land would feel smoother. I want to take my bike with me when I go into town and there is a cutscene, that would be nice. Every time I get a cutscene when I ride my bike into town, my bike stays on the farm :/ Requests from regular townfolk also feel weird and I never felt the need to give an item I didn't just have in my inventory. Maybe make some requests worth cool items instead of just money or make it where you can view requests from home, but still have to turn them in at the town hall, that way you don't have to go all the way back to the house, cuz you know the item needed beforehand.
Some of my wants: Character Portraits, an "add to stack" option (Like SDV.. where you can add everything of the same item already in a box, from your inventory to those stacks), a "sort items" option for both inventory, and boxes, makers inside or on paths, bigger freedom to move and place items in your house, more decoration options for your house (like wallpaper and flooring)
Sounds like some good quality of life updates! Especially the house one, I actually forgot about decorating that because of how ridiculously limited it is
Thank you for informational video, and so fast too! 😊 I'm really exited about 1.0.5, it looks good so far and it also gives me hope to stay optimistic for more updates, fixes & support for a longer while. And while I'm very glad about the maker functionallity changes the thing I'm most thrilled about is the cooking time! I hope they remove it all together!!! I didnt use the cooking option at all yet, because 30min PER dish is a looot in an already limited day and with so many tasks and options what to do instead. And its not like you can "abuse" it anyways, since you still need the ingredients and getting those already takes enough time & work without adding cooking time... You can at least work around the makers by placing up to 20, but the in-game day is already short with SO much to do, and I already had to drop a lot of optional tasks like cooking and fishing completely to take care of my farm, animals and collect materials. If I want Orichalcum Ore and get to Level 50 in the third Mine I sometimes even have to drop ALL my tasks for the day to focus on that.
Glad you like it!! I get ya - Lovett's cooking challenges are something I've been putting off for a long time because of that too. And so true about the limited time in the day! Reaching the LVL 50 mine does pretty much take up all day, if you do something else too there's a high chance you'll pass out somewhere between 40-50. Good thing about the Orichalcum ore you might want to know - once you reach mining lvl 9 you will unlock something to make getting these ores a lot easier!
How about adding portraits to the NPC and also maybe the ability to move makers and buildings without the need to place them into your inventory to do so like edit mode from other story of seasons titles
An edit mode would be so good actually! Because even when manually replacing stuff, the rough edges of the terrain can get in the way when you want to add more things like fences/paths. I had to pick up 1 chicken coop 3 times in a row because of that :p
I still want them to have 2d portraits and I really hope they will add them some day. I dont have this game yet, but it seems to be one of the bigger complaints.
it prolly wont happen simply cuz of how it works with the kids, they would need minimum 6 portraits per character but for the child it can have so many variations it would be way too much work to give them portraits unless the remove the feature that the child will look like : either you or your spouce or a mix of both and make it either set or spouse only wich also wont happen prolly, all they need honestly is more animations for when you talk to the people and better camera angles
@@lisamuller1958 I'm also not sure if it will happen, but I don't think the child should be a problem. Obv I'm not a professional, but I think the work intensive thing is drawing all the portrays and adding in at what point which portray should be displayed. For the child they would only need to draw a "black/white" portrait with shading, add in which facial expression is shown when (since the interaction/dialogue & personality of the child doesnt change) and then just add in a function that will color in the skin/hair/eye color depending on the parent. I think that shouldn't be too difficult from what I know? But again, I am no professional... I think the marriage candidates would definitely have different expressions, but the "normal" townpeople propably only need 2 or 3, maybe even only 1 and those already exist (in the relationship tab & encyclopedia you can see them). Sure, only 1 portrait isnt great but still better than nothing.
@@lisamuller1958 the kid shouldnt really be a problem. In trio of towns there are also many variations of the children. Here there would be a few more, but it isn't too complicated, just a bit work.
@@Mercyfalls for the portraits what people want is actually their expressions so making just 1 portrait is worse than just making better animations imo though it always depends on person to person ofc
@@lisamuller1958 idk if you deleted your comment or whatever, but it's still not that difficult to change colors in one sprite. A lot of people are doing it for fun on reddit already. If amateurs can do it, the professionals could do it aswell. It's not like colors merge when you get a child, so yes, they have a few more colors in this game, but as I said, it's not that difficult.
I would honestly love more clothes and hairstyles like in past game, there was so much clothing and hair options in the two ds version. More decorating items and i am not that far yet to see if this is or isnt a thing but changing the style of your home like in past games
Have you unlocked the boutique? That will add some more clothing and hairstyles (not too much though). Most decoration items are unlocked by leveling your skills so you'll find a good number of them. The main problem will be placing them, especially in houses. For some reason, the in-house decorations are limited to very specific areas, even with the bigger houses :(
I’m glad to see other people having fun with this game and excited about future updates. I just recently got into the farming biz, and I’m having a blast! Been playing all 3 SOS games on the switch, and yes, I’m even having fun with the 2 Harvest Moon games! Rune Factory 4 is crazy awesome too!
Oh I am so glad YT showed me this. I could finally get back into Olive Town after about a month and came back to the 1.0.4 update and the dlc update. I had been in the middle of rearranging my farm layout and was not looking forward to having to figure out all the makers I would need. Oh I missed the locking feature. I always end up turning the tiniest bit before mining and getting so mad.
I need character portraits back so badly. I have zero motivation to get to know the back or side of someone's head cause that's all I see when talking to people. I don't know anyone's names, I don't care what their names are, and I only ever talk to someone when I'm buying things. Also, for the love of god, get rid of the cut scene festivals! I don't want to watch things happening around town! I want to be a part of it!
The cutscene festivals were a weird choice. Like, they're better when you can spend it with someone but seeing as you need at least be boyfriend/girlfriend you have no choice but to do them by yourself which is weird
I hope they'll allow Reina to appraise more items at the same time. I'm still collecting treasures and it takes forever to get everything appraised when I filled all slots in the backpack.
The limitations in the game are crazy and feel unnecessary, like, why is the shipping box so small? And paying ridiculous amounts of money and materials JUST to have a slightly bigger fridge is maddening
The shipping box limitation hit really hard after a whole day of fishing lol. I wish they didn't split up the fish and then even more by giving them different levels of quality :(
More dialogue would be nice. Like have it change the friendlier or more romantic you become with them? I started dating one of the characters in one save I can't remember who and besides the little info book saying she was my girlfriend she just....didn't feel like it ya know?
I agree about the makers. I really wish we could have a building for them, put them on paths, or put them in existing buildings. I miss having my mayo/butter/etc. makers already in the coops and barns where they don't take up space, especially now that you can put multiple products in at once. I also want more design space within the house.
Definitely feel the design space in the house too. One of the first things I crafted was a cute chicken rug but my house didn't have any space to put it T_T
I wish that the game didn't require makers. I would prefer if we had the maker sheds, like in the first SOS game. Having the cute building that catered to the finished product was awesome! Items aren't stackable in makers and they eventually make your farm look very cluttered and slows the game down. I also miss the character portraits and wish that the storage system for the refrigerator and the boxes were improved. Time moves too quickly, not leaving much time to do much. Cooking times are ridiculous, no matter what you cook.
Most of this has already been said but here's my list. Sortable crafting menu (auto-sorting would be best but I'm not too picky on this one) Stopping the passage of time (except when triggered like via cooking/events) when in buildings An auto run button functioning like in FoMT that allows you to walk through people/livestock standing in the way Fewer respawns of ponds, trees, and rocks (I'm ok with the grass and need the puddles but if the things that prevent my movement could just get gone that'd be great) without me needing to cover up the beauty of nature with artificial paths Appraisal items to stack by type instead of each one taking up an inventory space Makers/Facilities to stack in inventory/storage (or at least storage) The ability to mass identify appraisal items instead of needing to talk to Reina about 30 times every 2-3 days A way to check what I've already donated to the museum without wasting all day going through things (preferably some kind of indicator in overlayed on the item icon so I don't even need to go to the museum to do it)
I really want the portraits back; I find that their models aren’t nice/expressive enough to get away with not having them. Sometimes they flat out look creepy lol. I really hope that this gets changed but I don’t think it will.
I bought the game 2 weeks ago, and only started playing it now as I was busy with midterms. The characters are so dull. It makes me so sad. I bought sos:poot after having so much fun on sos:fomt when it went on sale on the eshop. :((( sorry for my english.
I want to bring up patching the placement of furniture in the house a. why can I not turn my chairs? b. why can I only put them in one spot and why can't I change the layout of my existing house at all or change the furniture out? the chairs table and counter in specific? Like it'd be one thing to be able to massively overhaul it I guess, but like... I can't even replace my ugly wood chairs with the cool ones I paid for? I am glad we might get batch crafting makers though or at the minimum maybe shorter time spans or make them upgradable to have more than one project at a time that'll be a huge help It does feel like there's no point to even getting furniture though if I can only place like 3 things in the bottom left corner of my house. Also I'd love to be able to put my egg milk and wool product makers indoors :P at the very least so I can put them in the facilities with the animals like I did in Stardew
Do you mean by adding more or changing the dialogue? I don't think they would, maybe add a few more but it'd be weird if you'd have to rewatch all of the ones you've already seen ;o
This game is by far better than the one Natsume just put out but it definitely falls short still. ANB was great imo, I don't get why neither Natsume or Marvelous decided to build on what they had, and instead took features out??
Oh my god thank you, I can now start playing this again, maybe. I lost so much interest for the game due to all these problems. The food scene grinded my gears so fucking much. Like if you're lazy to make more than 1 eating scene, just don't make any at all! Saves time! Worse yet the character is taking a bite out of the fucking table, not from the dish. OH MY GOD HOW IS THIS A 50€ GAME. Makers were stupid and I still hate them. They are there to slow down progress, that's it. Ps: we need a speed increase. How is running speed almost identical to horseback riding speed. Another example of slowness for the sake of slowness. Goddamnit.
I actually like that they slowed shit down. Ive bought so many $50+ games that ive beat within the 24 hour mark. Ive played this game over 80 hours and im not done.
@@mzywica I understand what you mean, all too often games nowadays worth upwards of €60 don't pack enough content to justify the price sometimes. But I do believe there's a difference between games that demand only 20 hours but are highly satisfying vs a game that takes 90 hours and feels like a drag. I guess for me personally, if I want to put in hundreds of hours into it should be through my choice, not because it takes 30 minutes to walk from point a to point b and back. QoL update example - MHRise introduced fast travel not because the game sucked and badly needed it but because wasting countless hours on not fun things in-game gets boring & tedious.
I'm debating on getting this game. I want to get it, but in hesitant because idk if it's worth $60........ 😥😥😥 Like, based off of the reviews I've seen, it's not the best game.... so should I wait into my next paycheck? 😥😥😥
Stuff like this is always hard to say because how someone values money and how much someone likes a certain games are both very personal! There's a review on my channel that goes pretty in-depth of what's good and bad, maybe this can help you with your decision. That said - this game will be receiving quality of life updates over the next months and will probably see a price drop or sale at some point. If you're not sure you may be better waiting for that as it'll give you more bang for your buck. Hope this helps a bit!
Tbh I don't understand why people want portraits. They are nice and all but it doesn't affect my gaming. Then again my first HM was AWL and there never was any. Though, on that note it would be nice if when talking to the townspeople you get a close up for them. But a minor detail overall. I do wish you can have more or a relationship with your kid. There are no hearts or anything for your kid. Loading times are the biggest concern I have, though. That and the convoluted mess the crafting page is. Bonus if they actually allow you to ROTATE your furniture in your house. I mean, I don't want all my couches in one direction here.... I've heard some also don't like how the seed makers are but like to me that's nothing: playing AWL back in the day taught me patience with it. You just need a system. I think many are too spoiled from SV.
@@Swrinny That's pretty depressing. It's just changing a few numbers yet players get to wait like 8 weeks for the game to be less of a grind... Seriously, it shouldn't take but half a days work of one person to double or triple input and output of makers..
Funny thing about those is that they are actually more 'cost-effective'. They provide you with more crafted items for less materials. Not that you really need this by the time you unlock them, but it can be really handy for the Orichalcum Ingots at least!
If they don't put character portraits and hearts next to those portraits when you talk to people then i don't care about the game and WILL NOT BUY! Changes to character socials is a step in the right direction however there is a limit to the what a catch can do, as it requires SIGNIFICANT OVERHAUL, which makes me doubt that a single patch can actually fix it!
They actually have the 2D art ready to go! It's ingame on the relationship screen. They could start by showing that together with the dialogue boxes which shouldn't be that big from a technical perspective. But only time will tell if they will do something like that - most of the people want it
Once the 1.0.5. updates discussed in this video will drop the game should already feel a lot better than it's original state. If you haven't seen my review yet, you can watch it on my channel and see if it's something you think is worth spending that amount of money on or not :)
I mean, I personally play these games for the dialogue, so not having it be done well is a game breaker for me. What’s the point in farming and developing my land if I can’t make friends with villagers with the intention of eventually dating them? And there seems to be a lot of things you can do in the game - what are the features you think it lacks?
It's nice they're listening to the fans, but this sorely-flawed game has been turned into Genshin Impact with its update patches. Hopefully we won't have to wait up for patch 1.08 in September 2021 or whatever for the game to be at its best.
-theres an issue where the body color of the player character is mismatched from the head, creating an obvious issue around the neck -they need more curly hair options -the clothing options suck -everything is too easy to obtain -seedling mode is too easy compared to previous entries, villagers are able to get to 4 hearts in less than a week when given presents -limited online capabilities -cant pick up or move farm animals -there is no punishment for not feeding your animals -house decoration is extremely limited -the animations in general are really jagged and offputting
Just a quick tip for the farm animals - you can easily move them to different barns/coops by using the book in the facility. This is only when you have at least 2 of that facility though, so yeah without that they'll just roam around mindlessly if you pick up their facility
@@Swrinny just random floors, it always seems to happen when I’m on a good mine run. I’ve read online and apparently is a common freeze. I’ve rage-quitted the game because of it, over it!
