I had a plan to start my master's program at TUM in 2 years, but now due to tuition fees i have to find an alternative. That is sad, but i am not upset, because there are a lot of other high quality Unis in Germany. Hopefully other Universities will not make those fees too

I did my study in TUM, and I see no reason international students getting fixated with TUM, unless 1. there is a a specific program unique to TUM 2. you like Munich (or its job opportunities) and can financially afford to live there. In the local job market, I see no difference in how a TUM graduate is advantageous over other unis (except maybe more student job/internship opportunities due to the location of Munich), because in Germany, the "brand" of the uni is less important than individual's skills and experience

The tuition is not much when compared to the US or UK, however one concern is that it sets a precedent for introducing general tuition fees for everyone in the future. That was tried before but resulted in student protests. Great videos, I would recommend removing the noisy background of the text frames and also the flicker between the cuts to enhance the experience to the viewer.

And at the end of the day, those same international students are still the same people who will have it tougher to find affordable accomodation, must show proof of roughly 12k in their bank acccount, will very likely be working on the side etc. I think the issue of accomodation should at least be sorted out for them to an extent if they are going to have this financial burden in such an insanely costly city as Munich.

About the fee for non-EU international students. I think the motivation is to give the opportunities more to EU citizens because they are high likely to stay in EU after graduation and for the rest of their career, compared to non-EU citizens. That in effect will support economy in EU region.

I can understand Baden-Württemburg on why they introduced tuition fees (i think it was about the deficit of the state's budget), but one of my friends from the US wanted to study in TUM. Unfortunately he was upset by the fact that TUM has introduced tuition fees for international students, because he was really intrigued by Germany's tuition free-high education. He did say he will figure something out, but it sucks that the "experiment on tuition free education" in Bavaria is technically over. Anyhow, great video and information!

I dont think you understand why there are no tuition fees in Germany. Its because upwards mobility is enshrined as a right in the constitution ...The Universities themselves are funded by taxes. So logically International Students should have always had to pay fees, as neither they nor their families have contributed anything to the country. Not charging fees was a cheap way to attract international students but the amount of applications they get from all over the world has a high administrative cost, so it seems like a way of balancing that.

@@SephirothVG "neither they nor their families have contributed anything to the country" - yes but they didn't receive any contribution from Germany prior to arriving there either. think of it this way - since a few months before the birth of a child, all the way up to that child being 18+, germany spends big in childcare, primary / secondary education, training, infrastructure, parenting subsidies etc. But none of that is spent on a foreigner - the foreigner's home country does all of that. and right when the foreigner is at the age of starting to contribute back to their country, they leave for Germany (or other developed countries), thereby depriving their home country of that contribution. Instead, the new host country starts enjoying that person's contribution directly, despite not spending any money building that person up to their adulthood.

It’s good that they raised the tuition. I was hoping for that. If you live here you are. Financing that system with taxes you pay your hole live. If you come here and just want higher education you probably have the financial ability to pay the tuition, especially Munich is so expensive. It is just fair in that regard, since the majority of people are just taking free spots away form people that actually pay with their taxes with it. I know that since and knowledge should be a available for everyone, so they should definitely make it possible to get that money back if you get a citizenship or hand out shoolerships more often, since there is money that the university can use

I've googled a bit about ATA in Germany and I've found that there are only Ausbildung programmes available for 'Anästhesietechnischer Assistent/in (ATA)'. Which means, the main question to consider is whether you are eligible for any master's program after completing your study program. Studium and Ausbildung in Germany are two different stories. If you are eligible, you need to find a program that matches your current curriculum. The website Hochschulkompass can give you all the latest information about the courses offered by German higher education institutions - from undergraduate level through to doctoral studies. It helped me out when I was looking for a study program. And don't hesitate to reach out to the spokespeople of the universities. Questions cost nothing. Perhaps they will give you a direction :) And good luck with your studies, as to secure a place in a medical university in Germany, your marks must be outstanding or nearly so :)

Hello, I like your videos. They're very informative. Thank you so much for your effort and time! I want to ask some things. 1) I heard that international students have to study one year at a university outside of Germany BEFORE coming to Germany. It started in 2024. Is that true? 2) I want to study Nursing or Psychology in Germany. My German level is B1. I will probably have to study in Studienkolleg (foundation year). Do they allow international students to work during the foundation year?
@schunka1051
@schunka1051 9 месяцев назад
You're videos are a little shallow. For example, the minimum wage increase is great but it's necessary to put it in contrast with inflation and increasing cost of living. Another example would be the number of hours you can work as a student. Students might be legally allowed to work more hours, but is that also good for the students? For example a company could choose a student that is able to work more hours over another one, which in the end will forbid students that are simply not able to work those amount of hours to get those positions. On the other hand, opportunity to work more does not translate to better life quality; a student working less hours and earning less could be a happier, more productive and social person. You also talked about the student fees and stated that these are bad for us students. But how will these changes affect student life and why is TUM doing this etc etc.? In summary I would say, you're portraying these topics without depth, you have to talk about the consequences of these changes, you should make comparisons with previous years and you have to put it in perspective with bigger topics. If you dont do that the statement "good changes and bad changes" has no meaning and the video is a bit langweilig.
@maxyoko
@maxyoko 9 месяцев назад
Thanks for your detailed feedback, and valid points. Keep in mind, this video should only be a quick informative one, follow-up videos about these topics function as a more in-depth analysis of the topic You don't look at a 15-minute news broadcast and complain that it's too shallow, right?

@@maxyoko I think you can make much more with 15 minute's through better structure, more dense information (and maybe less trivial calculations and examples) and if there is time maybe some critical thoughts. Also keep in mind that another reason for the tuition fees is that TUM wants to have less students (especially in CS). As local students cannot really be targeted anymore, the tuition fees were a politically feasible way to try to lessen the burden on the institution as well as to get some much needed funding into the schools as the state funding basically hasn't changed while the number of students kind of exploded. (which is kind of bad since most international students come here for a Master's degree and aren't really the reason for the overcrowding of the university) As such I predict that most universities will not implement tuition fees as they are very much looking for students (in fact, TUM seems to be the only university in Germany trying to shrink) and will probably try to attract people which were originally planning to go to TUM. As most international students actually stay in Germany after their study the fees also don't make a lot of sense. Funnily enough, there are rumors that Baden-Württemberg is planning to scrap the fees as they view it as a "Standortnachteil" for the state :D

If you are short on money than don't study in Munich. It is not only the tuition but the costs for rent and groceries which are the most expensive in Germany. According to studis-online you pay on average 720 € per month for a room in a WG in Munich (if you can get). The total average (including hard to get rooms in a dorm) for Munich are 540 € while Aachen has 410 €, Braunschweig 400 € and Leipzig 410 €. Again, if money is an issue than don't go to the big cities in former West-Germany Munich, Hamburg, Frankfurt/Main, Köln, Stuttgart, Düsseldorf and the whole of Berlin. Smaller cities (e.g. Trier), the Ruhr Area (Dortmund, Bochum , Essen) and East-Germany are more affordable. Munich is nice but very expensive.

Calm down people. Not all unis require tuition fee. TUM has a Singapore Chapter. Check it out and maybe you can at least understand part of the reasons for such tuition fee. And be honest with yourself. Compare the cost of studying in your home country, germany and other countries vs your expected return from the study. Choose what best for you and stop complaining. Also the salary deduction is not all tax, but also covers insurance and pension fund. Pay close attention to understand if such system is of your interest.

I decided not to finish my study but gained understanding of how things work there. Anyway it'll be great if you create a video explaining tax and other income deductions. It will help the prospective and current students to prepare for their future. I learnt about it from Einfach Besser! Deutsch für den Beruf. Hey !!@@maxyoko I've watched some of your videos recently, and I found them super informative and helpful for students like me who are interested in studying and building a future in Germany. As someone from Bangladesh who also dreams of living in Germany, your content has been invaluable. I have a bit of a conundrum that I've been struggling with for a while, and I'd really appreciate your guidance. I'm a high school graduate (HSC-2022) looking to move abroad for better career opportunities, and I'm torn between two options: Option 1: Germany - Ausbildung: Pursue an Ausbildung in Germany, which combines vocational training with on-the-job experience. Enter the job market directly after completing the Ausbildung. Option 2: Japan - Language School & Diploma: Enrol in a two-year language school program in Japan to learn Japanese. Obtain a diploma (e.g., associate degree) in a relevant field after the language program. Enter the Japanese job market with the diploma and language skills. Unfortunately, a bachelor's degree isn't financially feasible for me right now, so I'm seeking the smoothest path to establish myself and advance my career in either country. My passion lies in the automotive sector, and both Germany and Japan offer fantastic opportunities in this field. I'm willing to learn either Japanese N5 or German B1, but I'm unsure which path would be better for me in the long run. Any advice you could offer would be incredibly valuable. Thank you for your time, and I eagerly await your response! Thanks for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you soon! MAHMUD SIDDIK
