HUGE Coolant Leak Hummer H2!

My Hummer H2 was losing coolant. it wasn't a small leak, either. Water poured from the driver's side of the engine profusely. It wasn't a hose, the radiator, heater hoses or the heater core. I figured it out and fixed it in an afternoon. Come along with me as I diagnose and repair a problem that could happen to your vehicle at any time. This repair is the same for Chevrolet and GMC trucks. Let's do this!

Very Cool to mention the size of bolts. Wanting to find shop manual for 2003 H2 or similar. To look over or study before a job on my own H2 . Thank For , 5*S video Enjoy This Great America. 2024. Father God Bless.

I'm not aware of a manual for the H2. I use RU-vid videos almost exclusively. If I run across a good manual, I'll sure let you know!

Hope you noticed the freeze plug on the passenger side head also looks a little suspect. I would change that one out too. The rusty streaks below it tell of leaking.

my new 07 H2s heater hose's at firewall are cut an looped back. I'm hoping w/ 130K miles the core isn't leaking, an the previous owner didn't know how to swap the plastic quick dissconnects. oh the alternator bracket I tap those threaded clips basicly widening the atl. holder. excellent video

Oil and antifreeze don't dry.
@mohawkgarage
@mohawkgarage 7 месяцев назад
I did not mean to infer that either fluid had dried up or evaporated. I meant to indicate that there was no evidence of a prior leak in the areas indicated. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching and commenting!

First, thank you for the kind words. Pretty much every LS cylinder head uses the same one. Here's a copy/paste of the correct part on ebay, but you can also get it at any larger GM dealer. They are very inexpensive. Good luck! New GM cylinder head freeze plug. This is a factory stainless plug for the cylinder head. This works on all factory LS heads, 1997-2013. Each head uses 2 plugs. Plugs are sold individually. Fits the following: 97-12 LS1/LS6/LS2/LS3/LS7 Corvette 98-02 LS1 Camaro 98-02 LS1 Firebird/Trans Am 04-06 LS1/LS2 GTO 04-07 LS6/LS2 CTS-V 99-12 4.8L/5.3L/6.0L/6.2L GM Trucks Part number: 562126 Thanks for watching and commenting!

How many miles your truck have? I have a leak and haven't started to root around yet.
@mohawkgarage
@mohawkgarage 6 месяцев назад
It's under 200k, but not by much. I think lack of maintenance can be worse than high miles. Coolant becomes highly acidic with the passing of time. That acidity is very hard on metals long-term. Thanks for watching and commenting!

@mohawkgarage Oh... I have an 03' with less than 90k. Maybe or maybe not the freeze plugs 🤞. Thanks for your informative video. 👍 you got my brain working(ouch). Yes, I dont don't drive much in my truck. I ride my Harley to work. Because I love riding.

Stupid question. Is there room on that freeze plug to put an engine core heater? And run cord up or to the side?
@mohawkgarage
@mohawkgarage Год назад
Considering I live in Florida, I may not be the best source for that answer. If I were to attempt such a thing, I'd probably thread the freeze plug opening and install a fitting of some sort. Good luck and thanks for watching and commenting!
@goofball1810
@goofball1810 Год назад
Haha. Ya I got an estimate to have one installed and they told me they would almost have to pull top engine off to get to freeze plugs. So I chose not to cause it was expensive. Now I see the one u had difficulty with . Installing it there would be a lot easier if that area would work. Thx for the videos !

Sean, I have a 03 H2 Hummer and it has a serious leak but mine is in the rear of the engine. Does the heads have a plug at the back of the head also? Thanks for the video Reggie
@mohawkgarage
@mohawkgarage 2 года назад
Absolutely. The plugs are in the same spot, but on the rear. I'll be swapping out mine very soon, as I have the transmission out and I'm looking right at them. It'll be very difficult to change the back plugs without removing the heads or transmission. I wish I had better news. I'll do a video about the job. Thanks for watching and commenting!
