@@mohawkgarage I think the tank is supposed to hold 11.9 gallons. I don't know whether I'm really running low on gas or if my gauge is wrong. It usually takes about 6.5 gal. I was going down the street today and I heard a giant bang from back there. I'm sure one of the cells let go. Have any ideas what to do? I don't trust the eBay modules. I have to look back there and see which one blew. Thanks for the info.
@@alext8828 I've never had a cell blow up. That's crazy! I searched FB Marketplace for used cells and bought a few, but that didn't work for me. I wound up buying a reconditioned battery from GreenTec, which is local to me. It also came with a warranty. Prices on Gen 2 Prius batteries have fallen dramatically, at least in Tampa.
@@mohawkgarage Green Tec. Good info. I had gotten 3 from eBay and I bet they're the ones that let go this time. I'm ready to switch to LiFePo replacements from NexCel but I can't see if they sell the battery management equipment. I wouldn't think they would be compatible with the one for NiMh. I'll check with Green Tec. Thank for the info.
I have a place for you I don't know if you have been but me and my friend has a place for you and it's like a whole bunch of abandoned cars just sitting in the woods and I got a whole project truck to restore over there I don't think we're giving them out for free though but who cares I really don't care for one of the cars that much he don't either
Heck yeah man it's in Georgia Fayetteville Georgia if you don't feel comfortable about yourself man I'll go over there with you man and just to guard you a little bit cuz I don't want anything happening it's the old would so that's how it would be if you live somewhere around Georgia man there's car shows if you want to go man I'll send you some stuff in different car shows
@jaydenlee6891 Everyone I've run across in the south has been very friendly. I'm a Kentucky boy, so I generally know how to get along with people. I won't trespass on private property, but if we can find the owner if the land, I'll make sure it's okay to look at the cars. I'll be coming through Georgia in about a month!
In love with my reliable Generation 2, 2008 Prius, with 170,000 miles. Bought new 25K 10/2007. Excellent shape, since its garage kept. Original Battery perhaps due to less corrosion on the hybrid battery connections? Has additional front and rear running lights. The HID headlights failed but replaced them myself by feeling my way with my hand and did not have to take the bumper off. They are much brighter than the originals. Replace the 12V battery twice. New water pump. New left front bearing. 2 New PVC valve replacement. Fix a leak in the air-conditioning system. Cleaned hybrid battery fan with an added cleanable filter screen at the air intake. Sometimes the dash lights go out when the weather gets cold then will go back on within 50 miles of driving. Heard it’s cold solder joints on the electronics? Went 90K 10yr. with the energy saver Defender Michelin tires and replaced them with the regular Defender Michelin tires. Loss a few miles per gallon but handles better and a softer ride maybe due to new thread. The Prius is used for long trips only with an average mileage of 50+ MPG. Short trips are by bike, feet and public transit all year. It’s a beautiful sports car Barcelona RED and a sleeping camping car with a 6’ bed with great cargo capacity. Adding a portable inverter makes a 115 Volt generator for back up efficient home power with the on and off cycle of the engine. The Princess Prius is a tough survivor like the princess cat in the movie “The Incredible Journey”. The beautiful large dash display is ahead of its time with sharp graphics like a space ship. Ran out of gas, and a whole dashboard lit up including the triangle of death (indicates serious malfunction - do something now!). Fortunately filled up 1/2 mile away before the battery became too low. Never again!! It’s an adventure reliable stealth vehicle that slips through the air quietly! The best smooth styling of all the model years. Definitely a incognito James Bond vehicle with secret abilities never to be underestimated. So watch out!!! Soon it will become a classic antique with appreciating value
My responses have been almost dead-even between buy or not! I've decided that I'll only get it if I have a buyer for it immediately. The perfect plan would be to load it and drop it off at the buyer's house shortly afterward. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I did A LOT of work on 6.2 Diesels. It's a good Motor. Probably need to get the Injector Pump rebuilt but, it'll be worth sum $ 20+ years from now just cuz there's so few of them left. The US Army had A TON of them. 189k ain't nuthin on that 6.2 Diesel.
I have a 40mpg on a 2008 prius, I also have a non-original catalytic converter, is there any way I can save money on buying a new battery, and change something in the old one?
Yes, you have options. There are ways to recondition your battery and swap out cells, but that did not work for me. I opted for a warrantee on a reconditioned GreenTec battery. They are located about an hour from me in Tampa. They came to my house, installed it, ran a diagnostic check, and even took it for a test drive. I'm very happy with their product and service. There are videos here on RU-vid that show how to "balance " cells. That may work for you. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@d.d890.. Mine is a rebuilt/reconditioned battery with a 2-year warranty. You can get 1, 2, or 3 year warranties. The total a few years ago was about $1600. Their website now has lower prices. Greentecauto.com Good luck!
Hey it's got a half tank of fuel 😅 But unfortunately it's sat around a while. The IDI diesel is good for the apocalypse since it is not a electronic ignition.
Fer $200... Only a person incapable of being a person would pass up such a awesome steal of a deal that is. 6.2L diesel gm trucks usually have a rear end worth 600 used. An I know fer a fact alot of farmer types love the 6.2L diesels. Even if it don't run its worth more than 200 itself. An you got those mirrors, if any good, I had recently paid 180 dollars to have apair shipped to me in northern Georgia from Canada because I couldn't find any here that wasn't all messed up.
I can assure you, I've had lots of experience at being a person! lol The owner requested a few days to get his engines out of the bed. After that, I'll be going to pick up the pickup. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Been there, done that! lol I've done that in the past, but only with vehicles that were obviously money-makers. This truck is worth approximately what the owner is asking. I'm not into buying cars to break even, ya know? I like to have a good chance at success from the beginning. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I absolutely agree with the value of time and labor, especially when it's summer in Florida. I think I'll make sure I have an immediate buyer before getting it. That way, all I have to do is load and unload it. lol Thanks for watching and commenting!
It's basically a parts truck at this point. I think the rust makes it unsafe for road use. I'm wondering if I could make enough on it to warrant working in 93-degree heat and investing the time in it. That's a lot of labor. I think the best scenario would be to sell it whole as a parts vehicle. What do you think? Thanks for watching and commenting!
Ha, exactly! His jokes are consistently better. I'm a huge fan. I would have subscribed to your channel, but you have no content. If you ever do, I will! I'd be honored to be your 4th sub! Thanks for watching and commenting!
I'm not sure about other generations, but it is located in the front of a Gen 2. The hybrid battery is located in the rear, directly behind the 2nd seat, but nothing else that's engine related is back there. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I’ve got a 2004 gen2 Prius with 220k. Zero issues. No oil burning. All battery banks within 0.1v of each other 50mpg morning commute at 70+mph. Evening commute 55-58mpg due to traffic congestion I’m kinda bored with this car….nothing to fix
I bought that model brand-new in 2008. 160k miles later, the only thing that's broken is one of the headlight ballasts. It burned oil for a while so I put in the lightest approved oil for about a year to clean out the sticky cylinder rings, and now, back on the recommended weight, no more oil burn. Still makes 40mpg year round average. Still using the original brakes, too, which I'm watching like a hawk because those things have got to be wearing out soon.
I totally believe you. My Prius is among the most dependable cars I've ever owned. I'm almost to 200k now and I couldn't be happier. Thanks for watching and commenting!
It was good to meet and talk with you! I met several people at the swap meet over the weekend who knew George. I'm learning more about him as time passes. He sure did have lots of friends, and that is a great measure of success. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I’d want to hear something from the engine to let me know your going to fast meaning myself but if it can be modified to hear the engine better then I’m all in
I guess you could install a different muffler that makes the exhaust louder. To be honest, a couple of my other cars are virtually silent unless I'm accelerating hard. I can definitely hear when the Prius engine kicks in. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Hope you noticed the freeze plug on the passenger side head also looks a little suspect. I would change that one out too. The rusty streaks below it tell of leaking.
All good. I'm actually putting that same motor in an S10 myself! Mine is out of an 88 firebird, and has the same swirled port heads. They're not quite as good as the vortex, but still a very good head.
Cool truck, but those are not vortec heads bud. Those are 87 to 95 TBI heads. Also called swirled port. Vortecs have 4 bolts holding the intake manifold down. Tbi's have 12 volts holding it down like the old style, but the middle four are at a different angle, like those. Vortex and the swirled Port both have four bolts holding the valve covers down. Still good heads though
I've had very little experience with that type of cylinder head, obviously. lol I was already using Iron Eagles and Dart aluminum heads on my cars during that era. I think the main reason I went to aftermarket heads is that I could choose every aspect of them...chamber, runner, valve size... Thanks for watching and commenting!
The truck out back was cool, but not something I'd buy to rebuild. I'm getting old and lazy. I'm more likely to buy something that needs small fixes. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I've always had a weak spot for Opel GTs, too. It's soooo hard to find one that's not a rust bucket. These appeared to be restorable. Thanks for watching and commenting!
He wants alot of money for ruff stuff. A person should never say, "trust me" or "to tell you the truth" or "honestly" when trying to sell something....(I am assuming when he responded to "how much is this one", the sales guy said "8"- he meant 8,000 not 800).....
I make it a point to not judge when a price is given, if possible. I'm not up on current values of some classics. I have, however, noticed that the market for older cars is coming down. I'm assuming it's because the people who loved them are retiring, not able to build them anymore, or dying. I know absolutely that I do not want to build a car from the ground up. I wouldn't mind dropping an engine in something, but I don't want to do rust repair. Thanks for watching and commenting!
It's a common misconception that Florida cars are rust free. Unless the vehicle was sitting indoors, leaves, pollen, and salt from the ocean can devastate the body. It's common to see a car with the roof panel totally rusted away from the rest of the body. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@umustwantme It's heartbreaking! I found some of the best old cars ever out west when I lived in California. The dry states, like Utah, Arizona, etc. have some solid old rides.
Our area has been growing faster than anywhere I've ever lived. It's surreal to see thousands of houses and businesses going up all at the same time. Thanks for watching and commenting, my friend!
@mohawkgarage wow ok gee, it's happening near where we live, but will never happen in our town as we are rural farming land in the mountains, stay Safe brother 🙏 👍 🍻🍻🇦🇺🤝🇺🇲🦘🦘🦘
