Great haul. Side note, tubers are sprayed a TON and so are berries. If nothing else, please strive to buy berries, potatoes, and anything else that grows under the soil organic. I have a M.S. in organic and sustainable agriculture, so I want to inform as many people as I can about the toxicity of conventional agricultural practices.
Costco is my favorite. I'm like you, 99% vegan as far as the food I purchase but I don't beat myself up if I have something with honey in it. Everyone has their level of comfort and still I feel I'm doing better than I used to do in the past. :) Loved this haul.
I have been eating plant based for about a year and a half now and just recently cut gluten out of my diet because I think I’m intolerant to it. It’s been SUPER hard for me to find bread anywhere that is both vegan and gluten free. I don’t have a Costco where I live but I will be moving soon and there is one in my new location so I’m super excited to know they have this bread. Thanks so much for the helpful video 😇
Me partner and I have been plant based for the last 3 weeks. I am highly jealous of the options you have for food. We live in a tiny town in NZ and our options are so minimal especially for the on the go food. I love watching your meal prep and the dinners you cook as it helps us with ideas. Thank u
I hope you guys get more options soon! I’m glad that my videos are still helpful in some way though! 💛 awesome job on being plant based these last few weeks! You’re doing awesome!
Your grocery haul is my goal in life. Especially the tortilla chips(Whoops I am an addict) I went semi-gluten free for the past 2 years and now I am fully committed to staying gluten free. It is nice to see another vegan and gluten free youtuber. I especially love that you choose a lot of whole food items over more processed items. Significantly better than other people's grocery shops. Thanks for the wonderful content. You rock!
Vegan for over 12 years and you do your best you can do, and that is good enough 💕💪🏻 Love you and your family sweet spirit, and even though I don’t comment a lot, I know you all do your best, and thank you for sharing! I love the made good with banana and chocolate, yellow packages. Sooo yummy 😋 Love from Johanne, Norway
I love that ramen!! Because of a cooking video you did, I purchased it and we love it! Still working on our quinoa and it’s been about 4 months. That salsa with those chips are life! We only buy that salsa now. We are thinking on that bread, may purchase it as we still use honey, we aren’t full vegan I guess because bees make honey, it’s what they do, they can’t be abused into doing it so we feel it’s a totally natural food and should be accepted. . And we ignore any and all packaging that says “may contain” So crazy how all of your haul is pretty much what we buy lol
I think its okay to consider yourself vegan even if you have honey in your diet. I have a friend whose family has been vegan for as long as she can remember and her father keeps bees out of interest, he just makes sure to save some honey for the bees as they like some of their own too, so honey is a sweetener of choice for them. Unless someone asks, I don't think you have to explain yourself. Everything else about you is vegan. Sometimes it's just preferences and difficult to avoid due to dietary restrictions.
enchantement sombre I prefer to be plant based if we must have a label. We aren’t doing this for any other reasons other than health. We still allow our children to have what foods they want, outside of the home but with restrictions. My eldest and myself have horrible dairy related issues so we avoid it no matter what and always have. So I guess we pretty much removed meat from our diets while at home and the kids have a choice at restaurants, but my husband and I stay pretty strict with our diets.
This is a big help. My husband has celiac disease and yes him too with cross contamination 😬 we had to have our daughter stop playing with playdough some bathroom products and the dog food. I've learned a lot about going GF and been debating on going to Costco. I think we will 🥰
I loved how you explain what ingredients are in all the food products I wish we had a Costco here but we don't it's about 45 min away. But i love watching your videos, also I have a question, are you going to do a what I got my kids for Christmas video? Thanks for reading this , have a blessed day and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
You are amazing great haul. Do you think you could possibly do some in store videos? I think it would be awesome if you could show how you do your full shopping trip. Just a fun idea
So I’m not trying to be rude but I’m genuinely curious why vegans don’t eat honey because it doesn’t hurt bees for them to produce honey it’s actually a natural function
Definitely not rude at all! No worries. I had no idea about the issues of the honey industry at first either. You are totally right that bee’s producing honey is natural. Just like cows producing milk is natural too. But it’s natural for their existence, not ours. Honey is bee food for the winter! 🙂 I don’t have a huge issue with honey if it’s locally sourced and you know the bee keeper VERY well and are fully aware of how they handle harvesting their honey (harvesting small amounts, ethical hive care, exc.) The issue is there are so many things they can go wrong easily that it’s hard to find a reputable source of honey that is truly ethical. And there is no way of knowing the sourcing of the honey in products like a bread that doesn’t state where they get it from. When honey is removed from the fake hives, it is typically replaced with a sugar substitute that holds much less nutritional value. Commercial honey harvesting is actually one of the things contributing to bees dying off as well. They are bred for the purpose of making more honey and they become more likely to catch diseases and have genetic issues. These issues spread to other wild honey bees. Some bee keepers will also kill off entire hives to save money in the winter months, and they sometimes will clip the wings of the queen bee to keep her from leaving the “hive” so they can quickly relocate her to establish a new hive. There are many other questionable things too. I personally just think it’s not worth contributing to it when it’s not something we need. There are certainly “worse industries” and I do understand why some vegans don’t view bees/insects the same way. I personally have no issue with killing insects when they are invading your home or may hurt you, exc. But, in day to day, honey bees are harmless and are also so incredibly important! I would rather just not support it whenever possible! 🙂
I wondered the same thing - I had no idea some beekeepers were so cruel to their bees! Thank you for explaining this! I don't buy honey much but I will definitely do my research if I purchase it in the future.
Arianna. So glad we found a locally sourced honey we buy. Also my father in law was a beekeeper at one point and can tell you so much about bees. It's very interesting business.
They are finding more gentle ways of extracting honey from the hives these days. I think honey is ok, good on you for not stressing about one tiny thing you do to make life a little easier.
My cousin is extremely allergic to gluten, she always toasts her bread. Of course, I know that it's not always possible to toast bread but toasted gluten free bread is actually soooo good.
Question for you. What supplements do you give your girls? I have a 1 year old and a 4 year old and we are starting to switch to being a plant based household. I just have no clue where to start. I’ve been watching you for years now and have come to trust and value your opinion on these things. Just want to know the brands of the probiotic, B12, and multivitamin so I can get them for my kids.
Hey girl! How awesome that you are making that switch. We do the Mary Ruth’s liquid morning multivitamin for b12 and general vitamins for the kids. Us adults take the Edens garden b12 spray. Then we do a little bit (like 1/4tsp) of iodized sea salt for iodine intake (salt is not scary when you are eating clean and not eating heavily processed foods with high sodium, this was also the recommendation of our registered dietician). We cook in cast iron and eat lots of green veggies to make sure we stay good on iron. Don’t use actual iron supplements unless the person taking them has been tested and is actually low. It can be very dangerous to get too much iron! Recently I learned about selenium intake being an issue for pretty much any diet. So we have begun doing a Brazil nut every day! One whole Brazil nut for adults, 1/3 of one for the kids or just give them one every couple days 🙂 We also take the Mary Ruth’s omega 3-6-7-9, maybe once every week or two. Not regularly! The only supplement that is an actual need on a vegan diet is b12. A lot of those others are things people on non-vegan diets even have issues getting enough of too. But, b12 is the only absolute necessity. And even so, if you are doing lots of b12 fortified foods like nutritional yeast and/or duckweed, you may probably good. It’s just best to be safe than sorry with b12 since it can take years for your blood results to show an issue!
This is so incredibly helpful! Thank you! I just looked at the Mary Ruth’s Liquid morning...do you do the same dosing for all girls since it’s formulated for the whole family or different for your older two and then Rensly? I looked at the gummies as well for my picky 4 year old but my 1 year old cant take them so I’d rather everyone just be on the same thing.
We are homeschooling, yes! She attends a private school and does a hybrid model. She goes half the week and homeschools the other half! She is advanced (about to turn 5, at a 1st grade level). And honestly I was just getting a bit overwhelmed with how much and how often she wanted to learn. I know I could give her a good education but with two other kids, I can’t give her the best one. So immersing her in a private school that shares our same principals has been the best decision for her! She loves it and she might go full time next year! 😄 We still plan to homeschool Aerie as of now, but we will decide each year what is best for each child. I really think that’s the best you can do, because one way of schooling isn’t always best for every kid 🙂 so we will probably always re-evaluate each year. I will say we are very lucky to have the private school option we do. It has a homeschool feel (multi-aged classrooms, kids can go ahead or spend extra time on subjects, exc.) and it’s actually super affordable compared to others! If we didn’t find this school specifically, homeschooling likely would have been the best option still!
@@ariannapflederer Thanks so much for sharing. We are still deciding and looking at options for Kindergarten in our area. Hopefully we can find someone who would be open to a hybrid model
Plant based here. We love in the sticks...so the nearest Sam's is 1.5 hours away and I am hoping they carry some of these products to try. Question: Do you ever buy gently used clothing and if you do...do you make sure it is ethically made and produced as well? Just curious how far your family goes with this. Thanks.
That’s a bummer it is so far! Sams from my experience isn’t that great with having options for gluten free, vegan, or even organic living. They have slowly started adding more organic options though! But, my mother-in-law has a membership there. I went recently and there were a few items that were good but nothing that made us want to get a membership of our own! And yes, of course! If you watch my older girls last few capsule wardrobes you will see that a lot of their stuff is used. And no, you dont need to worry about where it’s made when shopping used. You aren’t giving money to support how it was made at that point 🙂 I personally also have no issue with purchasing used leather, exc. I know some vegans just don’t like wearing it. Which I get! But, it comes down to not helping support unethical practices. And when buying used you aren’t putting any more money in their pocket. I just usually won’t tell others the brand of those items so that they don’t in turn go and purchase something from them 🙂
Thanks so much for your reply!I have been plant based for health for a while now but looking into more ethical ways to buy household items and clothing so this helps a lot.
I see that you choose to be vegan and made that choice for your family. But why didn’t you let your kids make that decision for them selves? The only reason why I’m saying this Bc I’m curious on your thoughts. My husband is vegetarian and I’m not but we agreed to feed our kids equally the same and when they’re enough they can make the decision on what type of food life style they want to live. What if your girls decide they want to eat animal products?
Because health wise and ethics wise it isn’t something we want to teach our kids to support. What they choose to spend their money on when they’re older is their choice of course, but we won’t be purchasing animals products or encouraging them to eat them :-)
I have not! Honestly at this point in time I just don’t have time to do that. I would love to. But we already make a lot of meals from scratch and adding another thing right now to make from scratch just isn’t on the top of my list at the moment with young kids. I would love to try it in the future though and find a good recipe! My mom used t make home made bread when I was kid and I LOVED it. But it wasn’t gluten free or vegan 🤪 so that will be a whole new area to conquer for sure! Haha.
I’m sorry, it’s not purposeful. I have to go in and manually add them. Which takes a little extra time. My auto captions have been turned on for years. Then about 1-2 years ago they stopped working. I have talked with youtube so many times about this and every time they claim to have fixed the issue and it comes right back. From my end the auto-captions are on, but they just won’t show up for some reason ☹️
Great haul Arianna. Has aerie been diagnosed with coeliac disease or just eliminating as you know there's the intolerance? I love schar products they are my go to. We also have bfree in the UK which are amazing. If you need any tips for coeliac and cross contamination let me know. Hope you are all well :) still on the weight loss journey, 133 pounds lost so far :) 70-84 to go to my target weight x
She had the blood test for celiacs and it came back negative. So her doctor just said a severe intolerance. But we have talked about doing the scope test to be 100% certain, since she seems to be getting more and more sensitive to it! I know the blood test can often be wrong. But for now we are just trying to keep gluten away from her! 👏🏼 but how amazing!!!! 133lbs! That is fantastic. So proud of you girl!
@@ariannapflederer Aww thanks. Yes definitely go for the scope as my first blood test was inconclusive and 2nd was negative but I fought for the scope and diagnosis confirmed. If she is getting worse push for the scope as then you will have the confirmation on her medical records for future conditions. X
@Arianna. I didn’t get diagnosed with celiac until I was 21 and my initial blood test came back negative! I know in your past video you said your sister is gluten intolerant, but if she truly has celiac that means first degree relatives have a 1 in 10 chance of having it. So that means you could likely have it or could carry the gene. One thing they sometimes forget to tell you is that you HAVE to be eating gluten for the tests to come back accurate.
Yes of course! We get the rest of our things from Trader Joe’s and the local grocery store. For things like tofu, tempeh, lentils, and random fruits and veggies we need between Costco trips 🙂
We don’t buy frozen pizzas often. But, if we do it’s usually the daiya ones! They’re Vegan and gluten free. Our local Walmart has them for the best price!
Yes! Our Costco does. I’m assuming not every Costco. But that is the only place I have seen that carries the large bags. And they’re INSANELY cheap compared to the small bags. $7 each I think!
