HUGE Dead Mountain Ash Tree Removal

Removal of a huge Mountain Ash in the Alfred Nicholas Gardens.
The tree stood over a spectacular rock water feature and entry area to the Gardens which is managed by Parks Victoria. When the tree died and began shedding its dead limbs, the risk to the public was deemed unacceptable and the tree was scheduled to be removed.
The owners of the Burnham Beeches kindly allowed us to access the tree from their property. The job would've been very different without this.

Excavator - Bidcombe Logging
Big thankyou to Mark Calvi at Ace Tree for all the incredible footage, and Jerry Beranek at A Tree Story for photos. We'd have no memories of this job without this.

Tree removal people are underrated as modern heroes of the labor force. Not many people are capable of doing this kind of work day after day with such strength, skill and agility. Interesting that they went for wood chips instead of firewood with ash being such a great btu wood. Anyway, still awesome mulch enough to practically cover a square mile!
@nizmojoeblows
@nizmojoeblows 8 лет назад
+Richard Federico actually, most tree removal companies are owned and operated by hacks that just woke up one day and decided they would open a business. Probably upwards of 95% of the companies out there are down right terrible and scary to be around. Guys like this are in a league of their own.

+Richard Federico its the same as landscaping companies. Everyone and their brother thinks they can just start one up with no experience.
@richardfederico1672

Yeah, I could see that with landscaping as the thought has even crossed my mind that if things got bad at my job, I might try to start a landscaping service. However, if you've even seen my lawn you would think twice. My lawn is comprised of seven different kinds of weeds...Lol! I could push a lawnmower though!

@christschool
@christschool 8 лет назад
SunShine Being a general contractor is no qualification for being a milling expert anymore than being a dentist or cashier is. There is also no way of knowing how many board feet are in that tree, only an estimated amount by looking at it which I would place around 3000 bd. ft. That tree could be cut into hundreds of thousands of turning blanks, something a general contractor would know nothing about as you deal primarily in borg purchased wood. Do you understand what part of that tree is rotten? The sapwood is which is the most useless part of a tree for furniture building or turning, although GC's use it all the time, that's why you think its worthless because you simply don't know wood my friend.

I don't thinks so @Derrick Barnes....unless the figures are obtained by sleight of hand. Such as a calculation that when 100 old growth giants are felled and replaced by 1000 whips that haven't in their entirety the leaf area of one single branch of one of the old trees, the number of trees is nevertheless recorded as having been increased 10 fold by all the chainsaw work. A sort of Trump truth. But go on - let's give you the benefit of the doubt....whence cometh your reference information Derrick?
