I split rounds like that with a falling axe. Straight grain they pop nice! Cut, and split (by hand) 4 pickup loads in a day. Hamstrings were hurting the next day!! Memories of working on the Mt. Hood at the Clackamas ranger station in the late 80s (fire crew).
I'm not sure my 10t tractor driven log splitter would split that. It's a big old round and firs are fibrous so they don't split easy. Also, I think I'd be wearing steel toe capped work boots for that job! It only had to slip once and your toes would have been in trouble!
