It's great that you're doing FOG2. Here's some tips. Light foot can interpenetrate other units facing parallel to other troops. Put them in front of your heavy foot. they can retreat through them. On deployment set up you should group your commands with your generals. Each general has a command radius. Units in command radius get a free 60% turn. The bottom right button has an option to show this. It also has an option to show range and field of fire for missile units. Focus missile fire to disrupt enemies. Cavalry annihilates skirmishers in the open. If you charge when they are close, they will be caught. Medium foot are more effective on broken terrain. They are moderately disordered in woods. Turning your pikes in the center was a mistake. Don't forget to attack when you're locked in melee. Not a bad job overall. Do some more of this game.

This game is amazing! Id be glad to see more battles with the other factions - like carthaginians, gauls etc. You might also wanna try Pike and Shot.

@dota vinkz the same company actually made a game which is like a state management game close to the paradox ones. Its called Fields of Glory: Empires. In certain aspects, its definitely way ahead of paradox games but its has issues in other aspects.

You can catch skirmishers by first sending your own skirmishers into melee and then throw a regular unit into the mix, or you can chase the skirmishers and predict where they will flee and then catch them with another unit (they can only evade once). Also, the buton on the beneath right side you can cicle "next unused/not fired yet unit"

Sometimes just charging a unit that is fragmented can cause it to rout...they might rally but it's close. Nice to see you picking up the game!

I recommend turning on Detailed Tool Tips in settings, it will give you all of the under the hood calculations.

Let's be clear... this game is cheap not expensive. The game is usually 23 quid. You get about 50 armies in the base game and so no real need for DLC unless you want to support the game and go into other time periods. I do recommend Immortal Fire and Wolves at the Gate. Even the DLCs are cheap - like 11 pounds and a lot of the time they are in the Steam sale as well. Just a great deal overall. FoG Empires was made by another developer (Ageod) and they just made it compatible with FoG 2 which is a great idea.

The game is not realistic at all, it is incedibly dumb and ridiculous. I have tried hystorical strategies, i scattered the enemies, i outflanged them, i urrounded small groups of them from every side, and i lost. How do you win every single battle but lose the war?

Tip for skirmishers: Put your cavalry adjacent to them, then wait one turn. The next turn, if you charge, its much more likely to catch them, though this will make your cavalry more vulnerable to being shot for one turn. Also, skirmishers cannot run away twice in the same turn. So if you have a good position, you can chase skirmishers away once, then charge them again and be guaranteed to catch them. This requires you to kind of predict where they'll go, but they tend to go in the opposite direction of where they are charged.

Love this game, really glad to see you playing it. It is VERY different to Rome II, it is a little more realistic because you have to be aware of the terrain that your troops are in as well (open ground, woodland, rough terrain) as "light" troops will operate better in those areas than heavy troops, and some heavy troops can't even move into some terrain areas (Pike can't move through woodland for instance). The rules that control how the game is played are very in depth, but are easy to understand and pick up, you may benefit from watching other youtubers playing this as you will be able to pick up most of the nuances from their explanations. Have fun playing this and i will be following eagerly as everyone else has now stopped streaming this game I think.
