How can they afford all those large contracts? Like the team cap is 70% used up by 4 players already not to mention ur elite scorer needs extension contract after the next season also you have other players that needs to be signed.

Youre absolutely drunk if you think Tanev signs for 4.25M for 3 years. Been saying this everywhere people are going to be shocked at the prices of these defencemen because theres so many teams out there with space needing defencemen... Tanev Wont sign for anything less then 4 years 5.25M Same with Bertuzzi Youre not getting him at 4.75. Bertuzzi is Minimum 5.5M

He was hving injury issues when signing tht contract, Only averaging 50-60 pts 10-17 goals , and it was at the beggining of flat cap Covid era where contracts were super low. I wouldnt solely contribute the legth of his contract to his AAV. You dont think theres going to be a team going to offer Tanev 4 years? The difference between one year isnt 1M when the cap hit is that low. Even with that that theory Tanev may get 3x5 , Theres no way in this world Tanev comes in at a cap hit below 5 , its just not happening. Hes too coveted by to many teams.

If leafs resign him. then they are once again in the same situation under Dubas. Large cap spent on players who under perform in the playoffs. Early round 1 or 2 exit coming for 2025 season. Monies saved on not resigning Tavares, Marner could go towards improving their defense and goaltending

I honestly feel like Tre is pumping Mitch’s tires because all the trade talk and the perception that we NEED to move him could be hurting his trade value. Although at the same time this is the Leafs.. Good video, 1st has great bottom end, top end is a bit sketchy with Robertson, Minten & Cowan in the lineup, 2nd sounds more realistic as a roster. Bertuzzi not signing for less than he’s already making after a pretty solid run over his contract. You’re high if you think they’re gonna win a bid war on Montour with teams who want him like Detroit with 31 mil in cap space and a more desirable place to play money and pressure wise with the exchange rate and lack of media scrutiny.
There's a few reasons why I think he stays in Toronto: 1) If he plays well in a contract year he can make bank in free agency by betting on himself; 2) if the Leafs win (or go to the Conference Finals at least) without him, it will prove that Mitch was the person holding the Leafs back further hurting his legacy; 3) if the Leafs win WITH him...Not the same situation, but he has to look at what happened with DeRozan and as a hometown kid and a dad with the type of ego he has, I don't see Mitch choosing to waive his NTC.

They need draft picks. They already tried to go for it now pissing away picks and they set the franchise back 5 years. Trade Lilgren, Jarnkrok and Robertson for picks this year and Marner for picks in 2025.
