*I'm not a network professional by any stretch, but this solution was a huge upgrade for me.
Layering your security from attacks is best, have multiple walls to protect yourself! Hacks/ network intrusions are real and so is identity theft! Since I shot this video, I do have additional layers running in dockers, including Home Assistant to minimize my cloud dependency.
Making things being modular allows you to swap out whichever link may become the weakest in the future. I am not affiliated with any of the products listed below, just listing what I have that you can use as a basis. I did this upgrade Sept 2021, and been learning and enhancing ever since. There are plenty of guides on line on how to setup and use PFSense which is running on my fanless low wattage pc being used as a gateway firewall router listed below.

Awesome setup. Did you fish the cat6 to the other floors or did you get a contractor? Any drywall damage? I'm using unifi with AP throughout. This is the best settup so far coming from mesh systems and its expandable. I'm in the GTA as well.

Thx! To the second floor I ran cat 6 thru a closet and to w central part of that floor. For the second floor I got lucky, ethernet run was already in wall from the builder, just pulled it to my network rack in the basement

I'm getting there, just need the space, I chose to go with Deco X20 mesh solution, each pod wired, I also have a managed switch, Netgear POE, I agree with you it is the way to go (I am a Network Engineer lol), Got the ping pong table, the foosball table, kind of a home theatre as well, must admit not as cool as yours but I'm happy with mine. I'm also in Canada, just outside GTA to the west. Cool setup, I hope you enjoy that with cool friends. Happy Father's day.

Hi , great video! Question = can I just plug those TP-Link Omada AC1750 into my bell fibre modem/router via Ethernet and they will work? Also is it a mesh system or each floor you would connect your devices to that TP-Link Omada AC1750 .

Great video!, what's the length of cable run from your switch to the farthest access point on the top floor? Wouldn't the length of cable affect quality of signal? Thanks for all your great vids

Thanks! less than 150 feet is the run to the farthest AP...cat6 is rated for 100m of 330 ft to work reliably.

Great question, they were much higher priced and I don't have enough devices that would benefit from it. Tested thoroughput and it wasn't justifiable..in the future when I need to upgrade to 10gb than I'm assuming something else will be out . These APs were 80 bucks each 😉

Horrid, but switching what I could to Home Assistant helped a bit. There are too many little devices that are not practical to turn on manually

Amazing setup!! Do you have multiple ports in your rooms for a hardwire connection?? Getting ready to install Ethernet in the bedrooms of my house now and wondering if I need just 1 port with like a switch to connect more devices(tv, game console, pc’s) or if I need multiple ports to have their own connection. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

I am a professional home networking installation tech and I would absolutely say getting a switch is more than fine and there is no need for individual ports for each unit that you will be connecting such as consoles,tvs or pcs.
