Whoa. A wonderful Bell 205 model with scratch build mechanics, scratch-built scale fuselage, and competently flown in a scale-like manner, all by the same person. My hat is off to this gentleman, this has got to be one of the coolest achievements by a sigle person I have seen in RC heli hobby.
Hey mate thanks for dropping in on my channel. Have you seen the other big RC choppers videos I have? Check out the playlist on my channel. Cheers Aaron
saul alvarado Hi Saul, thank you for taking the time to watch my video and for commenting. Agreed, the LAFD really have some awesome paint schemes. I will also pass on your comments to Michael. Great talking to you. Regards, Aaron (Melb, Aust).
Thanks Brian. Yes it was great to see this big bird fly. Mick has since sold this large helicopter. However, did you see the other helicopter (Bell Jetranger) video that I uploaded? It's even bigger than this one.
Hello Col. Your comment made me laugh. Only because I think of myself just the day making some scones for some friends that I had over for morning tea. They looked like roadkill but apparently my guests liked them. Mmmm, or maybe they were just being polite. Thanks for watching. I have some other big RC helicopter videos in my playlist. Did you see the big Bell 47's (MASH) choppers that Michael also built? Cheers, Aaron.
+Luvtoflyhelis G'day mate, thanks for your kind comments. Michael is very proud of his scale helicopters. He's currently building two large Bell 47G's. I can't wait to fly one. I will soon upload another video of Michael's super scale Lama. Cheers Aaron.
Hi Jim, you're very welcome mate. Glad you enjoyed the video. Make sure you pop back to my channel from time to time as I've got a couple of new videos coming up real soon. Two scratch built XL Bell47G scale helicopters and a XXL Bell Jetranger. Cheers, Aaron.
***** Hey man, thanks for the thumbs up and feedback. It's very much appreciated. I will pass on your comments to Michael when I see him next. Cheers, Aaron.
Bloody great job ,the workmanship is excelent well done Mick, keep up the good work. That club you are in has a great buch of members to by the way, just thought i would mention it.
@@DCT_Aaron_Engineering welcome. Hey question if you don't mind. I have alot of experience with nitro cars ie 1/8th scale 1/10th scale off and on road but know absolute zero about helis. I purchased a blade sr uh1 Huey from a guy who never flew it. When I throttle up and around mid stick it starts to get light on the skids but tends to drift to the left. Swash plate is level on the horizontal and very very little tilt forward. Some say it's normal I've read it is electric with ccpm. What is your opinion. Am I not being to aggressive with the throttle? It is set for normal flight mode and low rate. I've read you are suppose to almost snap it up to get out of the bad rotor wash but I'm kinda scared it goes psycho on me? Your opinion plz?
Hey buddy, it sounds correct. If it's set up old school it should have -2 degrees pitch bottom stick, +5 degrees pitch mid stick and +10-12 pitch top stick. This is different then a modern 3D pitch curve. I suggest getting a flight simulator and practising on that first. Otherwise, I suggest going to your local RC model club and ask for help. If you've never hovered before, you will need a trainer undercarriage. I suggest getting help before you fly it again. Otherwise it will just end up in the bin. Cheers, Aaron.
@@DCT_Aaron_Engineering appreciate it. I will get with my local hobby shop bc my transmitter is the old hp6dsm. Throttle curves are preset on it. Thank you for advice I will follow it. Great heli you got there indeed.
You're very welcome buddy. Best to get assistance mate, you don't want to crash her. Thanks man, this chopper belongs to my good mate Michael. I've heaps of other big scale helis on my channel if you check out my playlist. Cheers, Aaron.
MStreppelhoff Hello and thanks for watching. Always great to hear from people from the other side of world. I will tell Michael to paint some stripes on his blades. All the best. Regards, Aaron.
Hi David. Thank you for watching my video. Yes, Michael builds very nice helicopters and this one was moulded off an original Vario (I think?). Mick does all his own fibreglassing from making the plug, building the mould and completing the FRP layup. It's always a pleasure talking with other fellow modellers. Cheers, Aaron.
Hi Aaron, thnx 4 the quick reply bak & was really after the nose angles, measurements, shape(s), etc & was wondering if Michael was able 2 help me out with these, but will understand if he can't & admire his great talent & a amazing machine he has built, thanks again Rocky.
+Ethan Passman Hello Ethan, I wasn't the one piloting the RC helicopter, it was my friend Michael. He built this machine from scratch. I will pass on your kind comments to him. Thanks for watching :-)
This is fantastic! The detail is phenomenal. Very nice job, sir. This has to be one of the top Bell scale build 205's I have seen, either in person on on the web. How many hours of construction?
rodcre8s Hey man, thanks for the positive feedback. I agree, Michael, the builder & owner did an awesome job of his scale Bell Huey. I'm not sure of the hours, but I as guess I would say a couple of hundred. Cheers, Aaron..
That is an absolutely beautiful heli! Beautiful craftsmanship, and build quality. What size motor did you put in it? Sounds awesome, and does seem to have quite a bit of power.
Thank you very much. Yes Michael does brilliant work. The model uses a petrol powered 28cc Zenoah engine. Because most scale models tend to be slightly overweight they do not have the power of a Pod & Boom helicopter. Therefore, you have to be on them and fly them accordingly. Have a great day ;-) Cheers, Aaron
Hi DCTTeacher1, thats one awesome UH-1 helicopter your friend has & am a huge fan of the Huey & was wondering how i can get hold of Michael to see if he could help me out with some more dimensions for this size huey as i'm in the process of building one but just for ornamental purposes. Bell Company don't give out much info, thanks Rocky
Donna Oshea G'day Rocky. Thanks for watching my video. I'm also a huge fan of the Huey. It was a marvelous machine. I have spoken to Michael regarding your question and he has explained how he does it. Simply purchase a 1/35 scale plastic kit from a toy shop and then you measure the plastic model and multiply your measurements by 35 to obtain the 1:1 size. Hope this helps? Cheers, Aaron.
Hi James, I can't actually remember now. But the model is an exact copy from a Vario gas mechanic body. So I think it could have been 1:5 but don't quote me on that. Cheers, Aaron.
awesome as hell...but... you gotta get a different camera or different setting on your current one because those rotors look horrible... but the build, and model are fantastic! Great job!
Thank you. I shot this video a really long time ago now using my iPhone. I've since got way better camera gear. Thanks for the feedback. Cheers, Aaron.
smiffy788 Hi mate, most definately you could. However, you would have to modify the mechanics. Most of Michael's large scale RC choppers have a modified or self made petrol (benzine) mechanic. Cheers, Aaron ;-)
Not problem, because it's amazing helicopter. Real great, no...GREAT work. I love it. I love scale(my hobby is crawler), but it one of greatest heli of I see
Thanks man I really appreciate it. I like your RC car collection. Great to see that you don't mind getting them muddy. I thought it was real for a moment :-)
Nice Bell UH -1Huey Helicopter. Where is your scale flight controls in the cockpit? Your main rotor head rotates in the wrong direction. Bell helicopters rotate in a "counter clockwise" direction. Where is the "stinger" on the end of the tail boom??? Ya need a turbine jet engine. Nice model, nice flight, & job well done!
@@DCT_Aaron_Engineering Yes absolutly indeed. Very impressed with this build. lots of time, money, effort, & swear words went into this beauty. Thankya for sharing.
nice helicopter, i don't know how to fly, i would love to learn i have a small one but i don't used it that much, i'll love to have one like yours. where can i buy one? and how much would it cost?
+Ricardo Espinoza Hi Ricardo, thanks for watching and posting a comment. This helicopter was scratch built by Michael using a fibreglass fuselage and mechanics that he made himself. To purchase something like this would anywhere from $3K - $6K. Cheers, Aaron (Melbourne, Australia)
AUTOSKIDS Now that would be cool to fly it FPV style out the back of your van. However, I don't think my mate Michael would agree to it hahaha Cheers, Aaron
DCTTeacher1 HAHA Aaron. If i was your mate Michael, I wouldn't let some cowboy fpv flyer "HAVE A GO" either. But one thing i would love to see is the view from a camera mounted on a pan and tilt system inside the cab. That could be done without risk and if i was around i would offer to do it. How is( my) honda chopper going? Have you made that gear yet?
Hey mate, we have another member of our group who has built his own co-axial helicopter. Full blown collective and cyclic pitch. I should do a video on it. He built around a Raptor pod and boom. Cheers Aaron
Thanks for reply..I want to make a project for kids helicopter. ..remote controls ... 1st how to make circuit. in which what components required. .how to made...Please give me instructions. ..
+Furquan Raza Hello Furquan, please note that these model helicopters aren't toys and they're aren extremely dangerous. Not recommended for young children. I'm sorry but I don't have any instructions.
Well, Bell would be delighted if he happens to see this scale model fly.. But I noticed the clockwise rotation of the Main rotor and the tail rotor is on the LH side? I think its the opposite rotation and the tail rotor is on the Right Hand Side I guess..maybe its like australia has Right Hand Drive...but well I hope someday to build like this one too..In the end Hats Off to you gentlemen.
Hello and thank you for your kind comment. Yes Michael builds certainly builds some really impressive models. Take a look at the large Bell 47G's he built here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GhbyZfScJ1s.html Good pick up. Depending on the model, some Huey's have the tail rotor on that side. Unfortunately we are stuck with that main rotor rotation due to blades and gearing etc. Ok, thanks for watching and have a awesome day. Cheers, Aaron.
+Furquan Raza Hello and thanks for watching. Making a helicopter like this is very complicated and it requires a wide skill set such as CAD Design, fibreglassing, machining and mechanical aptitude. I would suggest joining your local hobby club and ask for assistance from your fellow modellers. All the very best. Aaron.
Hi Mike, it depends if you purchase a kit from Vario or a similar company. You usually have to supply your own mechanic (motor & frames) and purchase the fueslarge kit for $1K. Michael made this scale helicopter himself (fibreglass and mechanics) for approximately $3K - $5K
Hey Ralph, you made us laugh. I just came back from the field with Mick where I showed him your comment. Hey, check out my Instagram account under the same user name. I have pics of the Bell's and a short video clip. Cheers Aaron
Hello, Michael didn't buy this helicopter he built the entire thing himself. It probably cost a couple of thousand dollars to build, but it's worth much more. Thanks for your interest. Cheers Aaron
Beautiful plane ( helicopter) 2 things that would have made it better 1. Turbine jet 2. A sweet flare upon landing ....I have a miniscule amount of stick time in a UH 1 D as well a Hughes MD 500 NOTAR and Hughes 500 ( Little Birds. Thank you 160Th and a CW5 that imparted a vast amount of time expertise and a crap load of patients and knowledge. I now know just enough to take off, land, and fly VFR and IFR ( trust your instruments ) they never lie!!!!!!!
William Lapo Hey William. Agreed turbine mechanics would look and sound awesome, unfortunately they're a whole different issue. There is cost, complexity and also certification required to operate turbine models. Hey, Your experience in real aviation sounds awesome. We play with models, but you actually do it for real. Do you have some videos on RU-vid? I will check out your channel. Oh, check out Earl Watters channels. He does heaps of heli flying (Jet & Long Rangers, Sky Crane, and MD). Thanks for watching. Cheers, Aaron.
Hi Carl, yes it certainly is a big chopper. Check out some of the other big helicopters that I have on my channel too mate. The Jet ranger is even bigger. Cheers, Aaron.
+VIKAS SINGH Hello Vikas. The petrol engines in these helicopters are made by Zenoah (Komatsu industries) and they are approximately 23cc - 30cc in size which is about 5-6 horsepower. In Australia you must fly your radio control helicopter and keep it within line of sight. However, I think the maximum range is about 4km. Have a nice day Vikas and thanks for watching my videos. Kind regards, Aaron.
Sorry mate this was scratch built by the owner and it has now been sold. You can buy a similar machine from a company in Germany called Vario. Thanks for watching :-)
BMBE TRINATIONALTRUST Hello, Michael is happy to hear from people. However, would you mind emailing your questions to me and I will pass it on to him immediately? You can get my email from the about section on my channel. Regards, Aaron.
Hey bud, it depends on what you have or available at the time. If you have a donor model you can buy a fueslarge from Vario (Germany) and insert your mechanic into it. I think this model sold for $4-6K aud. But don't qoute me on that, as it wasn't my helicopter. Cheers, Aaron
Hi Rey, I'm not exactly sure mate. My friend Michael built this helicopter himself. If I had to guess maybe $5000. He has sold this model now. Regards, Aaron.
Hi Abdallah, thanks for watching. This helicopter was scratch built by Michael. He used fibreglass and a mould to make the fuselage and sourced many different parts for the mechanic. He no longer has this model as it was sold to a collector last year. Have a nice day and thanks for commenting. Regards, Aaron
Hey Greg, I clicked send to quick. Depending on what stage you would want it completed. For example, just the fibreglass body or a complete painted and flying chopper up to $10K AUD.
Hello Bellboy, Thanks for watching and commenting. To be honest, yes I agree with you. But when you have limited resources and money unfortunately the "weed whacker" is our only option lol ;-) Cheers, Aaron.
Hi James nice to meet you. I live in Melbourne Australia. Yes Michael makes some very nice models and the attention to detail is exceptional. Cheers, Aaron.
I can not remember that there is a tail rotor that did not turn against the main rotor. Because that also stabilizes the tail rotor. Weird that your tail rotor turns the wrong way. But it's your heli. Regards.
Not my helicopter. It's a club members. I would say the tail rotor was put on that side to make it look more scale realistic. However, it should be cutting up into the downwash. Funnily enough it still flies rather well ;-)
OK. Then you must indeed make a choice, to place the heck rotor on the right side according to scale. Yes, despite the wrong direction of rotation. I think the heli also fly and steer well. Regards and thanks for your response.
I also wanted to get into the rc hobby because of amazing aircrews like this one tho I'm curious how do these guys build amazing vehicles like this.Where do you start from?
Skit10daddoleSucker Hey man. Flying RC Helicopters is a great hobby. You meet new people and the support / comradely from other modelers is fantastic. Basically everyone starts out flying pod & boom and once you become proficient many move into scale modeling or hard core 3D. Michael is the owner and builder of this helicopter. He is a master builder and he scratch builds all his models. He uses fiberglass in the majority of his builds. Thanks for watching my video. Cheers, Aaron.
