Heart does have a bit of gamey iron, liver taste. Many things are better depending on how they are cooked. Beef heart cooked the way you did it, in my opinion, benefits from a long low and slow cook. like 250 for 3-5 hours, after a night in the fridge having been salt and peppered . I've also had it marinated and hot grilled that was good. Stewed a few hours with salt, pepper, onion, garlic, bay leaf is most simple and produces the best result in my opinion. Once its done, its good for hash,stir fry. Can't beat the price though. cooked right its not bad and is cheaper than dog food, lol
I would give it a try... My grandmother is from Alabama, she used to tell us always try it first...she also grew up during the depression...I'm sure she had to eat some foods none of us have thought of...
