Today I am installing a charger for my electronics in my van. It’s an all in one device that simply hooks up to my house battery.
This is not a product review or an endorsed product, I bought this unit because I’ve been looking for something similar for a long time.
The charger is made by a company called Time USB. The company makes lithium batteries and accessories. This is the first product I’ve bought from this company. And so far, I’m impressed.
If you’d like to try my favorite hot sauce, Yellowbird, here’s a Link: www.yellowbird...
Be sure to use my Coupon Code: “StaticCampervan” for 20% off your order. I will earn a small commission on each sale which is a win for both of us. You can save 20% while also helping me earn a little travel money.
If you enjoy my videos and would like to help me keep making them, please take a look at these links to support me:

My name is Scott and in 2015, I bought a Ram ProMaster City to live in. Even though I didn’t know much about RV’s and campervans, I set about building the van out as a minivan camper. And in April of 2016, I moved into my minivan full time.
Over the years, I’ve learned you don’t need to have a big skill set to build your own campervan. And that living as a minimalist and utilizing solar power can be a less expensive way to live. I’ve also learned that a minivan can be a very comfortable home.
Please follow along as I document my journey.
-----------------------
In an effort to help viewers search for the best prices on products that I use, I’ve started an Amazon Influencer link:
www.amazon.com...
My hope is that you will use this link as a starting point to search for the best price. If you're looking for an item that isn't listed, feel free to drop me a question or comment and I will do my best to find a link.

Scott,I paid close attention. I'm going to look further into this. I have a reliable older Chevy express van. I have two 100 power panels that can be networked to give me 2 hundred. They are portable and just fold out and fold back up to store. I use an ordinary tractor battery hooked up to an inverter 1500._ its very compact and easy for me to handle. I didnt pit panels on my van roof because its a tall van and a challenge to climb up there for cleaning and preventative maintenance.I also have a second small inverter that plugs into my cigarette lighter which I only use to charge my phone and tablet.
@StaticCamperVan
@StaticCamperVan Год назад
Not enough people think about how difficult it is to clean panels that are high up on a roof. Good thinking.

Scott. You say you're nowhere near a professional [insert project here], but your experiences with [said project] kinda leads you to sound very informative still. And yes, your projects in your van do not look the prettiest as you yourself admit. Though interestingly enough they all are as true to yourself as you are to your viewers. Reflects on your manner of how you manage yourself and the things around you. Philosophically speaking, with you it's What you see is what you get. It's good to know what to expect from your videos. Saves the guesswork out of everything. Nowadays it's a real relief!

As long as you're not in the union, there is unlikely to be any inspection of your electrical work, Scott! But if you ever change your mind about that quaint battery post, they do sell a little terminal mount fuse holder for 4 circuits, and mini busbar for same. If the output of your solar controller is sufficiently uniform, you might be able to power the new distribution device directly from the panels on a sunny day with the extra Anderson, instead of drawing down the battery.
@StaticCamperVan
@StaticCamperVan Год назад
I started to drive over and pick up one of the terminal mounts you speak of. But decided against it for now as I actually removed two different sets of wires. So there’s still plenty of space and room to torque the lugs down. Interesting idea about running directly off solar.
@haint7709
@haint7709 11 месяцев назад
I believe they make bus bars that are for connecting multiple units to a battery post. It will "look" better and may bypass any future problems.

I also, upgraded to a 100 amp Lithium battery. One thing about these batteries, they don't like being charged below freezing weather so, I had insulated it, it is, also, a Chinese brand and doesn't have internal heaters that would keepit warm in cold weather. That was a good investment to replace my aging, heavy lead acid battery. My other, good investment, was a Weboost cellphone booster. With it, I haven't lost cellphone coverage, yet. I ,also, travel the beautiful Oregon coast and haven't lost coverage along the way while having the booster on.
@StaticCamperVan
@StaticCamperVan Год назад
I added a Bluetooth temperature sensor to my charge controller system. It does a great job at monitoring the temperature and keeps the battery safe. Although, I’m rarely in temperatures cold enough to have an issue with charging

You know me, I have questions.What is the benefit of you running the fridge directly to the batteries instead of an inverter? Does the divice store any power? Interesting you dont need an inverter. Lastly what does clean power mean? Thanks in advance for the schooling.
@StaticCamperVan
@StaticCamperVan Год назад
You always keep me on my toes, Lola! It’s ok, I’m wearing barefoot shoes. I had an odd issue with my old fridge and in diagnosing the issue, I added a dedicated power line to rule out voltage issues. Also, I can’t stand cigarette lighter plugs, so eliminating it was a priority. The new device doesn’t store power, it simply gives access to the power stored in whatever battery it is hooked up to. Clean power isn’t necessarily a correct term but I’ve noticed power spikes and surges when using inferior equipment. For instance, the old motorcycle charger I showed would pulse electricity to my iPad. I don’t know if it damaged the iPad but in my mind it can’t be good.
@LostOnLandAgain
@LostOnLandAgain Год назад
@@StaticCamperVan So would the problem with your fridge be the inverter then? How would you know you were getting power surges/spikes? I really appreciate your answers.
@StaticCamperVan
@StaticCamperVan Год назад
There won’t be any problems with an inverter because I don’t have one. My fridge runs on 12 volt DC power. I’ve only ever used DC fridges because I don’t want an inverter. I have a volt meter that I can use to track down power issues. A volt meter will give an accurate voltage reading.

If that Lithium battery ever shorts out or catches fire, you can kiss your home on wheels by-by. Personally, I do not trust Lithium batteries. They should all be pulled off the market. Sealed gellcells are SAFE. They may be bigger and heavier, but that's the trade-off for safety. Also, you should insulate that octopus looking positive terminal by putting something none conductive completely covering it.

Why is the USB port junk? Explanation would be helpful. Why do you hesitate charging your phone? Please elaborate.

Pulses power on and off. Also heats up my battery to a point that feels dangerous

City of Industry. I don't remember the exact address. The address was given to me after I sent an email to the company asking if I could pick up the battery.

Wouldn't something like BESTEK 150W Power Inverter DC 12V to 110V AC Converter 4.2A Dual USB Car Adapter for $20 is all you need if you only want to charge your laptop?
@StaticCamperVan
@StaticCamperVan Год назад
An inverter is a very different device. I don’t have an inverter because they aren’t the most efficient way to power DC electronics. I don’t own a laptop so I don’t have a need for an inverter

Hmmmm... Charging my electronics with something like this makes more sense than going from DC to AC (inverter) and back to DC (device charger). Maybe I could live without the inverter. Well, except for my hair clippers and the charger for my power tools. Hmmmmmm.......

This is vital for my charging needs. The extra (wasted) power using an inverter would leave me short on electricity. Luckily I have a couple of portable power supplies that have built in inverters for the rare occasions that I use AC power
