As a 1970s graduate of Mission Bay High School and a person very familiar with this beach, I'm shocked by this video and how high the water came up...wow!
You’ve simply got to persuade the Dutch to move west of the Mississippi. They’ll have that neighbourhood sorted out in 10 years. “Ga naar het westen, jongeman”
You're right the Dutch have it easy these days actually their sea levels are going down not up.... It's a reality the mindlessly brainwashed don't want to talk about.... Then again no one can name 1 of the ridiculous predictions that came through..
As someone who lives near the gulf coast, developments like this always look incomprehensible to me. Surely even a small hurricane would wipe that whole thing out?! Anything near the coast in Texas is either a fortress or disposable. Makes me realize not all beaches are so active.
Not the same as the gulf coast. This is actually part of the land, made up of solid rock or “pan” beneath a small layer beach sand. San Diego gets hurricanes about as often as New York City and usually an intensity of 1. Even if hurricanes increase due to global warming, it was all developed before anyone even considered global warming and sea rise as a threat.
@@sobmaz In Texas when a coastal house (on stilts) survives a hurricane but ends up in the beach, they pick it up and move it to the back of the development. Some houses on Western Galveston island have had this happen more than once! The land is receding and receding, each major hurricane moving the coastline back one or two rows of houses.
It is extremely rare but when you combine a huge swell with insanely high tides then this is what happens. If one or the other had not been happening simultaneously then this would not have happened.
Was in SD last year. Every Uber or Lyft driver we rode with, wanted to know where we were from and if there are any houses available. They couldnt wait to leave California
Doesn't matter. Anyone who isn't filthy rich out West RENTS. They all might as well be wiping their butts with 20 dollar bills. Do the math. They are stupid with their $$$$ when it comes to the future.
Memories of skateboarding down from Sapphire on mission Blvd Sunday night to Denny's with my friends. We all brought 1dollar and caught a taxi to take us home. The early 80s.
Ever wonder what becomes of all that glacier melt that’s been going on for the past 100 years. Look at photos of Alaskan glaciers from the eighties and compare to today.
All those houses are insured and the gov / tax slaves will bail them out if they lose their homes which is what happens in the Gulf and east coast after a hurricane.
These clips were shot around 8:30 am on 1/6 and unfortunately I just missed the high tide peak at 7:30 am where you could see waves crashing off the boardwalk wall. Even with heavy rain the boardwalk won't sustain water like it does in this video. There are several news reports of the waves flooding Mission Beach on this day if you want to look it up!
@@paulscanter5562 no company would write a policy for these homes or if they did the premiums would be enormous. Insurance companies are not in the business of paying for avoidable losses.
@@lohphat, I live here. It’s a calculated risk and they pay extra because they’re in a flood zone. Nobody believes that it can’t happen because it did happen 40 years ago. Just minor cleanup due to water. Not destruction like a hurricane. Again, no one expects, or wants sympathy from ignorant out of towners like you.
I would imagine with global warming that place is like this a small strip of land far out into the ocean surrounded by ocean on both sides they will disappear because the ocean will literally swallow them up
Alone the ice from Greenland will be too much… But hey the Titanic is unsinkable so let’s keep on doing and play another song. As long as only poor people from Bangladesh etc. have problems (now!), it cannot be that bad…
Have You ever asked about Sea level change? Its only 1.8mm/year in my area and my tidal range is over 4m/yr Proof here, direct from NOAA ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JALQ2zlfnoo.html
