This is talent. The ensemble is...I can't even think of a word to describe their sound! This movie was beautiful and this scene in particular made my heart soar as it always does. Fabulous!
This is a fantastic production with awesome singing, emotions, scenery, war clips, transformation of Hugh Jackman to a loving person. Hugh Jackman should get the academy award for best actor. I have seen this movie 3 times so far and will see it again and again. You could hear a pin drop in theatre each time I went and even some spontanious clapping from viewers. Wow what an awesome movie!
Omg can't believe I have found this, was an extra in this exact scene, 16h of filming in the cold and rain in Greenwich London, totally worth it!! Hugh Jackman has such an amazing voice!!!!
Yes, it sounds wonderful already now, and when they still add the music later,.... STUNNING! I'm sure, not only the trailer will be awesome. I think, gooseflesh pure, and also some tears, are guaranteed at some points of the movie.
I have wanted this movie to be made for so long. I couldn't believe when I heard Hugh Jackman would be Jean Valjean. He was the only person I could imagine doing it, and they got him! It looks amazing. The soundtrack will be released before the movie, probably. I'm looking forward to some good cries before I ever sit down in the theater. Come on, December!!!
Very interesting video. I am looking forward to seeing this film when it is finally released as I am a fan of Les Miserables. Thank you for posting it!
In the movie (as in the book) it's Gavroche that drops off Marius' letter that's intercepted by Valjean. They gave that task to Eponine in the stage version to enhance her part.
I totally agree with you! I'm so excited it's unbelievable!!! I have the feeling that I will embarrass myself when I leave the cinema with my make-up all down my face, but it sure as hell is worth it!
They aren't making a film about the book. They are filming the musical and in the musical, this is the last song. It's like a reprise of the earlier "Do you here the people sing" and the lyrics are slightly different. Every character is singing in this song. Everyone, dead or alive. It represents that Jean Valjean is dying - halfway to paradise and half on earth. Fantine has a few lines, together with Eponine, to "guide" Jean Valjean to heaven... it's just the way it is in the musical.
This is the finale song of the whole movie (Do you hear the people sing? Lost in the valley of the night...) That's why Fantine, already passed away long ago, is standing beside Valjean.
I saw the movie today, luckily big songs such as I dreamed a dream or DYHTPS weren't change (although DYHTPS was sung by everyone, and i was a bit frustrated that Enjolras wasn't given his solo in it) On My Own, and One More Day, those were really fine. Smaller songs such as Fantine's Death, ABC/red and black, Look Down, and much more were either shortened or the lyrics changed, which made me a little mad at first. But then I realized how amazing it was altogether, even with all the changes. :)
Question: Have you actually SEEN this musical on stage? This musical is anything but trifle and is one of the, if not THE, greatest musical to hit stage.
This "trifle musical" as you call it, has been running continuously for 27 years. Despite your contempt for musical theater, an awful lot of people have been touched and thrilled by the story and music.
i started crying at the part where maurice came back to find his friends all dead.i was working up to crying befor that though.i never cry during movies EVER!so this is an amazing movie.
I looked up the young actor who plays Enjolras. He's a favorite of mine, because "Do You Hear The People Sing?" just puts me in a puddle. He's a wonderful young actor that's done several Broadway musicals. I look forward to him. I'm sure the 'dying on the barricades' scene won't be so clean in a movie. I told my best friend I better go alone a few times before she tries to be seen with me! Shops in NYC sell shirts with 24601 on them. I may have to have one.
And apparently, unlike other recent movie musicals, the players actually sing (not lipsynch) on every take. That takes some chops, especially when you're outside in the cold all day long in nothing but a negligee.
I love that they are doing the ghost part of Les Miserables. Most people comment it is not like the book , well the book itself it quite the story with a lot of detail, and the movie is the musical. I love that my favorite song has this scene, the epilogue, I only wonder if eponine will show up as well, since she is suppose to sing with them as well.
So true! Though as I age it seems I can't think of anything, anytime! I was somewhat dubious about Phantom of the Opera being recreated on 'celluloid' as I am about Les Mis' being given the same treatment.I am curious as to how much of this will be computer generated. But we have two months to reflect on 'what ifs' etc.I saw it 3 times on the West End in London & was mesmerised each time.So yes I too look forward to seeing this version.
It is the finale - hence "Lost in the valley of the night" line. Though Eponine would usually be on Valjean's other side, least in the stage version. But let's wait and see.
it is. check it out on the official trailer. the one by DanceOn and at 0:53 the girl on the far right hand side you will see is Eponine. you can also see her in this video at 1:27 the girl in the dark brown dress just below the bottom left hand corner of the little logo thing at the top of the screen. also most likely Eponine
You don't have to worry about that cause the film is going to be pretty much completely sun-through, like the stage piece itself. There is a new song added to the score though, called Suddenly
With such a well-known story, spoilers, for those who aren't familiar with the book/musical, are to be expected when it comes to the movie. That was hardly spoiling the movie anyway, trust me.
If you pause the video right when the camera starts to sweep upwards at the start of the shot, you can see dead bodies strewn along the base of the barricade. They look like soldiers.
Its a movie based off a famous musical, based off a famous book. Im surprised you're watching this and haven't read the book or seen the musical. i recommend doing that first before so you get an idea of the movie's expectations (10th anniversary is my favorite one by far)
it looks as though Eponine is not in this particular scene but I can't wait to hear Samantha Barks' rendition of "On My Own" in this movie. She was amazing as Eponine in the 25th Anniversary concert DVD.
I'm about a decade late and it seems this comment was made before the movie's release, but having actually seen it now and being able to pinpoint her location in the final shot, you can see her here on the right side of the barricade around where it starts to slope downward :)
Dude, the musical has been running on stages around the world for twenty-five years now, and the book has been around since 1862. I think the time for worrying about spoilers is long past.
This isn't the first act. The lyrics in the first act are "Do you hear the people sing, singing the song of angry men? It is the music of a people who will not be slaves again!" sung by the rebels. The lyrics here are from the finale, "Do you hear the people sing, lost in the valley of the night? It is the music of a people who are rising to the light!" sung by the souls of the dead in Heaven.
She actually did cross paths with him twice.... once when Valjean arrived at the Thenardiers' to claim Cosette, and again when she was dropping off a letter to Cosette from Marius. I think it adds to the idea of 'heaven' that Fantine and Eponine would realize they are part of the same family now.
Eponine was in love with Marius, who was in love with Cosette, and Eponine was subsequently protective of Cosette and ValJean when the Thenardier gang tried to break in. Fantine probably saw all of this from Heaven and embraced Eponine as part of her 'family'. I think that is why the two of them show up together when JVJ is dying. It fits in perfectly with the humanitarian theme of the musical that they would be shown as one 'family'...sappy, perhaps, but that's why so many fans love it.
the end of the 10th and 25th anniversary have all the cast appearing to sing this song do you hear the people sing reprise, so I think that's what's going on here
I really want to see how they're going to One Day More. It's sung by many different people in very different locations. Maybe they'll do it like this song - that they're not really that far away from each other.
