Learning and implementing the 85% rule as a jazz musician.
Whilst listening to Hugh Jackman speak on the Tim Ferriss Show, I was particularly interested in a performance technique that Jackman describes as the 85% rule. As a performing jazz musician, I've spent the last month putting the 85% rule into practice and in this video, discuss the benefits any performing artist can reap from this mindset.

Your dedication through periods of time in the practice is apparent. Sounds awesome. I do also feel better when I pull back from 100% effort. Not pushing and smothering creativity and technique execution. Any practice tips on playing through changes?

Thank you! Being relaxed makes a big difference. Same recommendations as anything else that requires lots of brain power. Slow it down and be very deliberate and accurate. The starting point for me was always playing through arpeggios. Out of time and then in time. Trying to do it in time quickly reveals the chords you need to work on. With enough reps, you won't have to think as hard about what belongs with each chord. Cheers.
