Alex Thomson Racing will begin their 2021 competitive season with the Fastnet Race on August 8th. Three months out from the start of the race, the team this week returned the HUGO BOSS yacht to the water.
it a quick boat but the big boys have 40ft on him so it is pretty unlikely (edit) I've just looked up the record and apparently its currently held by a Volvo open 70, so defiantly achievable if the conditions. but then he still has to beat boats like Rambler 88 and Skorpios (which is 125ft i.e. double the size of Hugo Boss) which seams unlikely
@@necron1050 Hugo Boss broke the record for the fastest 24hrs in the vendeglobe at 536.81 nautical miles so if he can do that again he will totally smash the monohull fastnet record.
@@BellHarrington I don't doubt it Hugo Boss is leagues faster than the boat that currently holds the record. the thing is that the larger boat are also ridiculously fast and Skorpios is probably an even faster boat. so Hugo bosses speed record is and average of 22.36kts (which is the single handed record) Commanche averaged 25.75kts for its record (open mono hull 24 hr record) Bigger boats have a real advantage in terms of raw speed and big crew help in getting around difficult conditions i'm not saying that Alex can't break the record what i'm saying is that if the conditions work for him they will probably get someone else there first P.S. have you seen this Skorpios thing its a 125ft super maxi with a retractable foil its mental. it should be considerably faster than even commanche is
I'm glad to hear that. To be the fastest you have to take every risk, including the boat designers/builders so I don't blame them anymore that the boat broke apart. They could have built a stronger boat but it would have never had a chance at #1. Keep up the good work you guys :)
Welcome back, to THE BOSS!! (Did you really ever leave!) I for one cannot wait till August 8th so you can show the sailing world what an awesome TEAM you are!! All the best Richard
It's going to be tight. Tally is much bigger and therefor much much faster, but as you can imagine, also a lot heavier! Now I've not really done the mafs here but it seems to balance out quite nicely. interesting fight
Anyone knows what where the conclusions regarding the structural damage inside the bow? Why that happened and did they do a full rebuild? - I haven't seen any coverage about that after the return.
