I want to say thank you to Hugo for sharing his story, as I could relate heavily to his experiences. The endless thinking about consciousness and thoughts, pondering how strange it is to have thoughts, examining thought processes constantly, being afraid of the sky and the human appearance, the high anxiety, the ups and downs...It made me feel less alone in this. Dp really make you feel like your perception of yourself and/or the environment is altered forever and it's nice to hear about people who got over all this.

Spot on this one, Shaun! Our zoom call a month or so ago really reassured me with the existential thoughts. I still play it most days, and this has helped too! That is assuming you and Hugo aren’t in-fact figments of my imagination though 😅 All the best mate and hope to do one of these in a wee while if I recover fully!

Hey Shaun, I purchased your manual mid lockdown in 2020, and it saved me from spiralling many times which I am ever so grateful for! It’s weird, to this day, none of the symptoms affect me anymore however, there is one thing which scares me when my anxiety is high and that is the hyper sensitivity & focus on being able to move my body, and if one day I will lose this ability. I believe this can be common, but I can’t shake it!
@georgelee95
@georgelee95 6 месяцев назад
Been having similar thoughts recently mate. You certainly won’t be able to lose the ability to move through worry. I’ve been freaking out how strange it is that we’re able see/speak/think, and that I may also lose the ability to do these things. It’s ultimately just high anxiety like you say; our nervous system perceiving totally normal things as a threat.

It would be nice if you made a video with an overview of what healing can look like Maybe something visualized to understand it better Should we watch recovery videos in healing process or not?
@georgelee95
@georgelee95 6 месяцев назад
I think Shaun may have already done a video covering what you can expect in recovery, but truthfully the goal is to get to a place where you don’t care about a timeline, as you’re not giving DP the attention it’s craving. I know this sounds backwards but trust me, true recovery happens when you’re not counting the days or weeks and purely tolerating the symptoms. I’d say recovery stories on this channel are really useful imo whilst healing. Just stay off the forums, completely.
@Dpmanual
@Dpmanual 6 месяцев назад
In terms of an overview of what healing can look like, read this, I think you'll find it helpful: www.dpmanual.com/articles/what-does-depersonalization-recovery-feel-like/ 😊 And in terms of watching the recovery videos, I think it depends on where you are in your recovery process. If you're just finding out what DPDR is, they can be a great explainer and reminder that you can and will recover. If you're closer towards recovery and have understood and internalized what the condition is (and that you don't need to be afraid of it!), you could probably refer to them less and less. In general what I'd suggest is that you can use them as positive reinforcement, but you should be aiming to use them less and less in time (I explain this process at length in The DP Manual). And what you always want to avoid is going down RU-vid / Google research rabbitholes. Hope that helps! 😊

Hey Shaun I hope ur doing well. Just bought ur book. I wanted to tell you about my experience on how I got it the first time and what about it made it cure itself and I'd apply it again as Ive been having it for almost I year now. Please help me understand how it went away the first time. Here is my story I'll condense it as much as possible First time I got it was back in 2022 Oct. There was world cup volunteer going on and I had to prepare for it and didn't have time to look into this condition. The volunteer work started mid Nov and I remember I still had depersonalization the training day before the volunteer work day started. How I know that? Because I was the only one there who kept asking the same question 50+ times and couldn't at all process the info while everyone else understood it right from the start. I am the type to understand things fairly quickly but I couldn't. My Job was only for 15 days which consisted of me: - Standing 10 hrs outside helping people from time to time with ticket issues - Guiding them to their entrances And once the volunteer was over I went on with my life Symptom free. How was it possible?

Hi, thanks for your comment 😊 Remember that ultimately, DPDR / OCD thoughts etc are just symptoms of anxiety so when the symptoms vary, it's just your anxiety levels going up and down, and certain situations / environments can change them. It’s not going to happen overnight, and you might wrestle with it for a bit longer, but there comes a time where you realise you CAN’T think your way out of this. It’s impossible. You WILL get out of this but you have to start proving this to your mind, and that means getting back to training/work/things you used to enjoy. It will feel so uncomfortable at first, but I promise you, this is the only way out. You have to physically prove to your brain there’s no threat through exposure and distraction. We’ve all been through it or are going through it and we will come out of the other side. I promise you, it’s high anxiety/stress response. There’s a rational explanation for every single thing you’ve mentioned in your comment. The memory, dream-state, feeling like you’ll crash your car. I’ve been there, we all have. You’re fine and I promise you’ll come back to this comment one day and wonder what was I even worrying about.
@Halloffamemagic
@Halloffamemagic 6 месяцев назад
@@georgelee95 can’t agree more, I’m at the 90% recovery phase and I can tell as from someone who’s going though it, it gets better you need to be PATIENT with your mind and body ignore all the comments of people that have had it for years that’s NOT YOU!!
@georgelee95
@georgelee95 6 месяцев назад
@@Halloffamemagic Great stuff man. Well done, that’s brilliant. The people who’ve had it for years are either unaware of what they have or not fully understood recovery yet. There’s no magic pill. It’s a habitual self-checking obsession. No pill can cure it. There’s also a sense with some of wallowing in their pity, especially on the forums. I think having a glass-half full mindset in life is so important, but in terms of DP, it’s absolutely crucial. DP can dictate your life, but only if you let it. Keep smashing it pal.

Hi there -- Firstly, if you are experiencing any thoughts of self-harm, please do speak to a medical professional as soon as possible. Secondly, please make sure that you’re speaking to your parents about what’s happening. It’s very important that they know what’s going on. I know DPDR can be frightening but remember that it's just your body and brain's natural response to stress and anxiety. It's not permanent and it can't hurt you. You can and will recover. Make sure to read through all the info and articles on my website at www.dpmanual.com And if you would like to speak to a medical professional please don't hesitate to do so. @@DpmanualNO WAAAAAY!!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU SO MUCH 😢😢😢 It was a new experience for me, the other night. I was recovering, everything was going well and suddenly I felt my mind going blank followed by the most acute and intense fear I had ever felt. It was so acute that the pressure in the right side of my chest lasted like half a day. I thought a had experienced a nugget of pure fear, something completely new and uncharted in the seas of anxiety. I felt like that dog in Goya's painting, like the tide of my mind was swallowing myself whole, in a sort of implosion of my consciousness; time itself felt like going backwards. But nah, turned out it's a rather common symptom. BIG PHEW😂😂😂🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 Thank you Shaun, your channel and your interviews are being instrumental in my recovery. Today, in fact, I feel great. ❤ thanks so much. To anyone who is struggling, remember, keep it moving. It is just fear. It is not incurable, you can keep living. Start as soon as possible. It worked for me. Do not feed the fear by feedong the thoughts and/or not doing things. Nothing will happen, in fact the worst that can happen is what's actually happening: staying in fear.
