Nice analysis, Kingsley! I think it’s a pretty good time to get either one of these, if you can get a bit lower than average would be ideal of course! 😂 I was watching Hulk 181 pretty closely over the crazy 2021-22 boom, and I remember Hulk 181 in lower grades selling roughly around Grade x $1,000 (3.0 = $3,000, 4.0 = $4,000, etc.) So I think it’s pulled back enough.. I don’t have GSX 1, but I have Hulk 181 5.0 green label - bought it from an ad in a comic in the 80s, & they stuck me with no MVS page.. I had the right idea anyway! I wish I’d picked up more copies over the years!
Hey Nowherebound! Thanks for the comment! Haha yah I've been itching to buy a hulk 181 for the pc for sure. I bid 3064 on a 5.5 today, but it ended at 3069 haha. Ah well, I guess no rush, and $3k saved! Bought it from an ad? As in a mail away? It's super cool to have comics from your childhood though, new pick ups just dont have the same level of nostalgia! That being said, you gonna pickup a 2nd copy of H181?
I love the data on the spreadsheet you brought in. I think X-men 1 has more overall significance as a whole but wolverine is wolverine and as a FA beats GSX. They are both incredible keys.
The fire might be dying out with superheroes but it's good it introduced more people to the hobby. Remember in the 80s and 90s is was all about action heroes then we transitioned into the MCU
That's true! The toy biz action figures haha I had so many of those. And then they got very intricate Good ol memories of childhood. Who's your fave character?
GSX-1 was the first slab I ever bought when I returned to the hobby in 2005. I paid $850 for a CGC 9.2. Hulk 181 was my 6th slab. I paid $1825 for a CGC 9.0 in 2014.
None of these are rare as far as print run, but at 9.8s are a different story. Less than 150 Hulk 181s less than 250 Giant Size. There are thousands of people that wish they had any of these. If I had a choice, I'd want Hulk 181. Arguably Marvels #2 most popular character. Definitely top 3 as only Hulk can overtake him and they're both on this iconic cover. X-men probably would've been discontinued again if Wolverine wasn't put on the team.
Hey spec collector, yah that was my overall conclusion as well, that gsx just isn't rare. I think the cover is great, the story is good and the fact that this shaped the Xmen that we know today, but as an investment, just not rare enough. So what price pt will you start getting interested in picking up hulk 181s?
@@kingsleychan i have 2 8.5s but I can't afford a 9.8.....not right now anyway. Are you thinking of going after a 9.8 181? Or any grade? My price range would be different based on the grade. One of my 8.5s was a 7.5 that I had pressed and cleaned by CCS.
@@speccollector9740 whoa nice nice. Two 8.5s! That's amazing. Man's that's the only time I've heard of a grade bump from ccs press. I always thought they basically do nothing. I've paid for ccs everytime I had something signed and books come with with the exact same non colour braking spine ticks. But Anyway, 9.8 is out of my price range. According to my vid, 9.2 is proj the best value, so I'd be very happy to get a 9.2 as my top grade of a H181. Hopefully the prices keep dropping. Do you think prices would come down drastically after a non high Jackman wolverine is announced jn the mcu?
Would love to see an update of this video. I think x men at that time was not super popular due to it just being reprints at that time prior to Claremont. Not sure though. I have both GSX and HULK 180-82. Multiple copies of all of them
I just recently graded my Incredible Hulk 181 first appearance of Wolverine has no mother stamp 180 no Marvel stamp my next door neighbor childhood friend Kurt caught him out he was older than me he is a comic dealer now and you taught me had to go to all these shows and everything he introduced Comics to me grateful these two books are my childhood books I just got him back after 2 years cgc I just got them back from cgc after 2 years they both came back green label 180 came back 5.00 cgc Hulk 181 4.0 cgc I decided to slap them so I can preserve them and share them with my grandchildren in the future by the way I have I have five grandchildren and MI6 is being delivered Thursday I'll be 58 this year I love your video hoping to see more thanks
Thanks for stopping by Richie and sharing your story. Love hearing em. Nothing beats getting key books from your childhood slabbed. It just means so much more vs buying a new slab that someone else had. Gratz on the grades too 5 and 4 are huge. Nice man
Giant Size X-men #1 is where the value is more and more people are turning away from #181 because it’s not Wolverines first appearance and people finally see this.
@@kingsleychan I had just one of each but i plan to pick up more Hulk 181 after deadpool movie drops and hype dies. imo the GSX is lower relative to it's avg FMV over past few years.
@@MetalBum true true, there has been a bit of residual hype recently after the deadpool wolvie stuff. Good call on waiting it out. Long term, Wolvie stuff will appreciate in value!
My giant size X-Men number 1 cgc 2.0 off-white to White Pages Purple Label restored went to a comic show last week walked around with it guy was interested I wanted 600 firm I wouldn't go lower and I got it I'm happy
Wow great pick up! 600$ for a 2.0 is a great deal. Awesome negotiating and congratz on the new addition! I love low grade keys, so much more liquidable vs the higher grades!
