I worked all over the UK, and had several customers in Hull. People don't believe me when I say it is my favourite city, or that some of the nicest people I ever met live there. The media are responsible for giving it such a bad name. I did have my Sierra stolen there once by some lads, I forgive em...after driving it round a field they nicked my esso tokens out the ashtray....but kindly didn't notice £1,000 worth of work tools in the boot. Still love the place.
I'm a Hull lass born and bred. So glad you enjoyed your visit to Hull and for giving such a fantastic recommendation. There are so many lovely places to visit and see. Made me smile when you visited the Ferens Art Gallery and showed the painting of the lions - that's been my favourite for many many years and I always look at it whenever I pop in. I' found this video after watching your van renovation and now subscribed to see where you visit next. Best wishes to you from Hull and hope you come back again soon 🤩
I take back everything I previously said, now, after watching the entire video James...😊 Hull looks REALLY NICE! Full of amazing history and architecture...and beautiful riverside. I now want to move there...immediately 😁 Just goes to show...I reacted initially like the southern snob I am... But this video has proved me so wrong...and what an @rse I was for doubting Hull. In my mind...the southern snob in me just thought... "Grotty, industrial, and stinks of FISH" 😖 I COULD'NT HAVE BEEN PROVEN MORE WRONG! 😊 Thanks for opening my eyes James 😊
Thank you for bigging my city up. I'm recently retired and as such have time. I cant think of a better way to spend it than a spontaneous bimble through the town. I've seen it all before and will see it again. We are a happy welcoming bunch here.
We are from "ULL" and thank you for showing the best of our City. We have found many people who slate it haven't even dipped their toes in the culture of it. Love the channel thanks again ❤
I lived in my volvo v50 for few years and you missed some beut places to stop in Hull and around Hull ..Next time you come to Hull go to Paull there's a little carpark to bed down and the view across the river Humber is stunning I've a full year of photo's of sunsets and sunrises waking up in the carpark winter to summer .2017 -2019...also worked leaving school down Humber Street as barrow boy for E.h bradnum flowers...also can visit hessle foreshore too just under Humber bridge...Nice place to wake up ..and cafe close by ..
i can imagine that hull would be a great place to visit in the summer, its a hidden gem for sure, and all the historic architecture was so beautiful, thanks for taking us on the journey,
Hi James, glad you enjoyed Hull, it's my home town and proud of it, City of Culture 2017 😊 Definitely come and sample our nightlife with Helen, Bonny Boat, Kingston and old Trinity market place Saturday afternoon great atmosphere and friendly people. It's nice to see Hull shown in a positive way and not negative for a change 😊
I live and was born in hull I am a massive supporter of the local football team and can honestly say it’s definitely not as bad as it once was it’s changed with more stuff to do and amazing history with fishermen docks pubs and areas thank you for putting a positive spin on my great city in my opinion
James very nice to see you out in your new van very posh. Get yourself a chest camera under your jacket for inside museums. Just unzip a bit and your good to go . Safe travels ..
I went in that bakery, Nibbles, last year when me and the wife went to see the Classic Rock Show. The selection is stunning and everything is excellent. We stopped at the the Marina at the Holiday Inn, which was also brilliant. Keep to the marina area and you can't go wrong.
Nice to hear your positive thoughts on Hull, and for once it's nice to recognise where you are having lived here on and off for 40 years or so. There's no where quite like Hull or Hull folk. The brutalist architecture is the result of the rebuild after the war as Hull was one of the heaviest bombed City in the North, luckily some gems survived. Beverley is worth a visit to on your return. Cheers for a great film again James.
I love Hull. Its the Barcelona of the North of England. Me and my family have been visiting from Spain for 30 years and everytime we go, something new. Hull & East Yorkshire is a hidden jewel of England.. People, lovely too. James, i love the videos.. really good fun
Ah 'ull! Some of my ancestors are from there in fact one of them slammed the gate shut and refused the King entry. I know it fairly well - well I did fifty years ago or so. You must visit 'The Land of Green Ginger'. Noticed King Billy on his horse, (find out about that legend); The Victoria Monument and Ferens Art Gallery. Sadly miss going across the Humber on the paddle-steam boats where you could watch the mighty engines as a passenger - all gleaming brass and steel - The Lincoln Castle, Tattershall Castle and The Wingfield Castle - the stuff of legends. 🥸
I went to Hull once - to meet the girl I was meant to be with forever. Never worked out. Thought I'd be unable to watch this, but it was entertaining and friendly.
Hi James. Great vlog on Hull. Glad you like my home town. Went to some good spots. Pubwise, recommend 2 historic pubs. Ye Olde white hatrte, silver st. You passed it. Civil war planning took place there. Ye Ild blue bell, Lowgate. Old pub, with coalfire in backroom, cheap ale, helen and you prob like the stout etc. They are in old town. Museums are great. My nephew ran deep some years ago. Queens gardens is also closed for refurbishment. Shame, would have loved that. Marina is nice. Bit pricey in the hipster bars though. Really good ale and fish and chips in old pub on the pier near marina, the Minerva. Parking in station looks ok but might be noisy at night. Try russell st, off freetown way, or russell st/ francis st car park. Side streets off freetown way are free and quiet. Wetherspoons on lowgate is good, but bogs are a trek, so i use disabled one! I was in old town wednesday myself. So glad you enjoyed hull. Also the joke shop down the arcade where you had bacon butty is legendary in hull. Hope you return soon. Regards, Andy McC Hull
I was born there, but my parents moved from Hull when I was a baby. Unfortunately, I have never visited Hull as a grown up, it's still on my to-do list. This video has now inspired me to visit there.
Cheers James, our home town. Where you was at the indoor market, there's a pub there called Bonny Boat, you and Heen would love it in there on a Saturday night. It does get a bit busy though. But they do sell Guinness 😊
James Loving the new van. What a great job they’ve made of it. Superb presentation and commentary. An absolute pleasure to watch. The wife and I can’t wait for the next episode to come. Keep it up buddy. All the best. Andy grandadknows.
@@bellefreeman803I’ve always thought Hull and that region has been understated, in the past. We used to go all along that coast, through the 70’s to the 90’s. Always had a good time. 🎉
As with a lot of cities in the UK, Hull has some cracking buildings, walk around and LOOK UP, you'll see some of the most amazing architecture and beautiful buildings that you'd normally miss....LOOK UP!
Hello James. knutsford is one you mite put on your list to have a look at. Been there a few times with our kid in his camper lots of nice pubs old style, and a good few free parking places. very nice old market on a Sunday. well worth a trip out.
Lived in ‘ULL’ for almost 3 years now and love it! Previously lived down south, and it is way more friendlier here in comparison. Great video by the way 👍🏼
Well done for doing Hull a good name Eh I moved here in 2017 from my home town and you know what it’s really nice ! Great town centre , lovely old town and Marina excellent nightlife and restaurants me and Fay said youde like it and you ain’t seen nothing yet 😊😊 It’s a great place to visit along with a great coastline and Across the bridge to Barton and Lincoln Up the coast to Fraisthorpe beach, brid, Whitby etc Hope we see you again Phil & Fay
Thanks for highlighting Hull!! I lived in Hull full-time in my van for a good few years. Worked at CatZero by the marina, stopping nearby in the day and overnight right next to the marina. I parked all over Hull on residential streets and had very few problems. The occasional spice-head and coming back to new bumps and scrapes on the bodywork. I've been inside twice when someone's driven into the back of the van trying to park!! Fair to say I fell in love with Hull and the people who live there. Sad to have moved away, but life changes.
😊so glad you visited Hull, i put a comment on one of ur previous blogs to come visit us and i hope u came because of me lol. Next time bring Helen for a good old pub crawl in the old town, great video once again, van looks great, so easy to watch.
Thanks to your vlogs James, we are getting a great 'taste' of hull. I've always wondered what it was like to visit Hull, now I know...Thanks very much mate 👍
Great little van you have now james and you and Helen will be warm and snug throughout the winter .thanks for a nice stroll around Hull which looks brill
Hi James, great variety in Hull and wee one would definitely love The Deep and Helen would definitely love the nightlife. Great to see you so content in your van now but you need to get yourself a warm jacket and bunnet to keep your head warm 😊
Yes James, what a fantastic looking place! I agree too about the `sea life` centre too, looked fabulous .. The whole place has that welcoming vibe and plenty of places to eat and drink .. Thanks James, brilliant video and many thanks.
I work all over Yorkshire and love my trips to Hull. The area near the Deep.... Fruit Market/Humber St etc is brilliant for pubs and bars The old town is definitely worth a day out for you and Helen
I see you have 500+ comments so maybe this one will get buried however RU-vid recommended me your video and thought I’d give it a watch, thank you kindly for showing our city in a positive light. Too much negativity without justification. Really enjoyed your video 👍
Brrr.... I got chilly just looking at you being cold and the frost on the windshield. That's a perfect spot for the Bluetti, right under that little table. I love doing genealogy so excited to see that you'll be doing the Ancestry kit. I got a chuckle with the joke, you did okay. I really like the looks of Hull too. I went online and found that light ship and it's opening in early 2024, lots of museums like you said and The Deep, your daughter will enjoy that. Hope you and Helen have had a good time this week and looking forward to what she thinks of your van make over. Stay warm, go and get yourself a beanie to keep that head warm. Thanks for sharing Hull with us.
Top tune! Loved that! I would have loved to have seen Helen's reaction to your new newly kitted out van. What an amazing company they are -doing all that for you 😊✌😁
Great you had a good time in Hull. Pleased you are able yo use the new updated van. Great contents as usual and looking forward to more soon. All the best and happy travels.
Great Vlog James, I remember it in the early 60's as a kid watching the trawlers come in then down to Hessle Road for a bit of shopping. Keep up the great work you do with Helen, ps your joke delivery is fine mate.
I worked to Hull on that Saturday in 1989 when Scousers were coming for that match. What the general public don't know is that for weeks, carpenters were boarding up shop windows ahead of the game. When I arrived in Hull, one of the station staff rushed up to tell me that they'd invaded the pitch. I said everybody had expected that, but were more concerned about vandalism to their own property. I was glad that I'd moved to Grenoside. My Butcher who was in Leppings Lane told me about what happened. He let people call home on his phone. Not long after, he closed his shop and went driving buses instead.
I’ve always liked Hull and your video really did it justice. The architecture is amazing. The Deep is excellent and I liked the look of the Street Life museum. I’ll have to go. Great stuff as always 👍
Moved to 'ull just over two years ago. Great place, and so much close at hand, too. Your vid on Scarborough was likewise spot on. Nice to meet a J. Atkinson Grimshaw fan!!
Hiya James and Helen. So glad you came to my home city living in Ireland I never forget were I'm from. Great content James see what hull is about. Top bloke
Thanks so much for this one James, you are right Hull is not somewhere that you would think of going for a day out. After seeing this - I have definitely made the decision to have a day there. The old saying used to be "Hull, Hell and Halifax" ( which is where I am from) - not a very nice connection but i think it originates with old prisons that were in these two places.
I really enjoyed myself, watching you visit Hull . The market was absolutely brilliant, really set out like an old little village set of shop. I liked the different cuisines, not mentioning the littlest bar in the world 🍺 😊 I'd definitely visit the Deep. I'd really love to visit. Well done, james 👍
We really liked this video. So interesting with the street life museum in particular. Love the arcades, market, side streets. Great place to visit by the look of things. Thanks James, loved it! ❤🇦🇺
Well that was eye opening, haven’t been to Hull for over 20 years couldn’t recognise the place! Honest review maybe it’s time Hull stopped getting the bad press?
I really enjoyed myself with you in Hull today, it looks great, your van is amazing too, they did a brilliant job, that Stout sounded good too, hull here we come Thanks James. Take care xx
Great video James I've never been to Hull but I'd definitely want to go now me and the hubby just came across your vlogs 2 weeks ago and we've been catching up on all your past ones with great interest 👍 you and Helen are a match made in heaven 💕 we have been married 52 years and we know the signs of a great relationship 😊 we are from just south of Newcastle upon Tyne a seaside town called South Shields, hope to find you here one day,our love to you both (Helen is such a funny happy lass) keep safe on your travels and get in them clothes shops and kit yourself out with some warm gear ie hat , coat gloves n boots and thermal tee shirt & long johns ! It's going to get baltic out there 🥶 x
you need to get the van fitted with a diesel heater, James. I'm sure if you got in touch with the guys that did that amazing conversion, they would help you get one fitted. Great bimble round Hull too, James. Keep on doing what you're doing James. The channel is brilliant....though your jokes.....well er...crusty isnt the word🤣 Respect as always- Kenny
Cheers fella, I live in hull and I never knew about the sarnie shop on humber street, I’ll have to go there. You portrayed hull in a shining light thank you. The marina area is buzzing in the summertime and a great place to meet friends and hang out. However, there is still much regeneration work in progress so you will have to come back in 5 years to see it in full swing. The street life museum did have the Arctic Coarser fishing trawler in the river at the back which is a fantastic experience but it’s in dock at the moment whilst they build a more suitable place for it as it’s a monument to the fishing industry’s in hull and will eventually take centre stage. There are some free parking places right on the marina of which I thought I might park my van there on a big night out so I don’t have to queue for a taxi home afterwards lol. These parking spots are right next to the fancy foot bridge that spans over Rodger Millwall Way. ( the bridge you feature driving under at the very beginning of your video) Best wishes, Karl.
Top video James, really enjoyed it as always my friend! I hear Hull has been part of a regeneration and it’s different to how it used to be… I can’t comment I’ve never been. The van is ace mate!! I love it… stay safe mate, all the best …. Smithy
Nice one James really enjoyed that, never been to Hull but it was nothing like I had been led to believe so may well put that on my places to visit when up that way, I will have to check out the local hotels, all the best, David
Born and bred in Hull. Left 20 years ago but my heart and family are still there. I try to go back every year. I'm back at the moment and decided to give the cafe on Humber Street ago after seeing your video. Great place. I recommend the sausage roll with apricot 😋.
Great video love this video looks like a really good place to visit thanks James glad your enjoying your refurbished van looks fantastic see ya in the next video with Helen
You’re brilliant at these walkabout Gimbal style videos, would love to see more, also next time you’re in Hull you should try some food at a place called Nibble
Bet you didn't learn half as much, in the museums, as you would have done if Helen had been with you! 😉😀🤔 Great video and Hull seems a beautiful city 😊 cheers!
Great vlog James, you actually, truthfully, looked like you had a great day, not one moan. Lol. Keep going buddy, and yes go visit my home town of Chesterfield.. 👍
