A new HUMANKIND miniseries! A more violent touch, this time around. Check out the single-city merchant run - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-td6G1xtzK9c.html And remember, you can buy the game here to support the channel if you wish - partyelite.gg/game-store
1:45 - Completing the knowledge stars gives you a unique legacy trait that will persist throughout the entire game. You can choose to get either +1 food, +1 production or +1 science per population in cities and outposts. It's really good honestly, it makes staying nomads for longer worth it, though personally I prefer staying in it longer because you can get more pops from ransacking sanctuaries than you can from growing in a city. 21:09 - Yep, this is the one. It's only given to you if you get those 10 knowledge curios. PS - All three options are really useful for war. Food to get more warriors, production to train units faster and science to get more advanced units. Honestly I'd be torn on which to pick. Also there is that civilization, I forget the name, maybe Harappans, that get the Runner unit. It's an oddly good choice for early warfare, because it's essentially a scout with +2 strength and better movement, so early on before warriors it actually allows you to dominate expansion locations, force the enemy to stay in their home/already acquired outposts and not go out to new spots.
34:50 - The speed at which an outpost is built is determined by how much industry is on that tile. I found that out the hard way in my first Victor game when I built my first outpost on a 21-food and 2-industry tile. It took something like 20 turns to build. Ended up making the second outpost my city.
Even the Rain God's wrath can not hinder the progess of our burgeoning realm. As fortold by our divine Shaman reading in the picking pattern of the royal poultry, a glorious future shall await the brave Hittites.
Thanks PE, as always. Loved the Mercantile series. You've 'sold' a number of games to me through your thoughtful, exacting content - Humankind is next on the list!
Really love this narrative style. I really think that this game has some serious potential for amazing stories, like Kruggsmash did with Dwarf Fortress.
I just want you to know you made me want buy this game. I didn’t really know much about it until you covered the victor dev and now I’m hype for it. Thanks for all the gameplay, I’m about to use your link!
I love the way you explain how the game is played while you play. I want to watch your Soviet Republic series for the same reason but it's such a huge series I don't know where to start.
@@PartyElite I agree 100%. I'm in the minority, but I really miss the days of prerecorded content. No interruptions, no little alarms going off with quirky sound effects every 20 seconds, and no instant tips and answers from chat when the player is stuck. I love seeing the organic discovery and more intimate, 1-on-1 feel. Maybe I'm just old.
@@cephalopod113 Nah I am the same way. I much prefer this style of video. @PartyElite I don't even really watch your live stream VOD's If I happen to catch you live I might watch but otherwise I am not very interested. I loved these Pre Recorded vids though. Make of that what you will.
@@PartyElite I too like the prerecorded. I love longer let's plays, but lately all of them seem to be streams where you get less gaming because they spend most of the time talking with chat instead of playing the game. I find less quality gaming this way aswell, due to the forgetfulness because they are more focused on the chat then the game.
@@cephalopod113 maybe because a lot of content creator outhere start changing their format into VODs and you as "part of audience", feel a little bit something is missing.
You do a lot of exploration, which is interesting. Usually I just move everyone back to my city and disband them for working pops. Exploration does grant a lot of bonuses in its own right, I might try out a full exploration style at one point, or maybe balance the two approaches.
I like to try and scoop up all the boosts to research, and I also like to get a lay of the land as much as possible. I often wonder if I overdo it, and if I wouldn't be better served boosting population as you say/do!
@@PartyElite Well, getting the science curios in the nomad phase for the Legacy trait is 100% worth it. I tend to settle down pretty late too, but the moment I do I just put everything into it. Which actually is kind of risky, I think there's some merit in keeping more units out to hold back the AI, because they can become surprisingly aggressive sometimes. They can't act aggressively if you ransack their outposts first and/or don't let them settle new ones.
@@davidbodor1762 your strat is very risky if you have a particular culture in mind, but the neolithic LT is genuinely super useful too. Given how much time I spend playing paradox games I pay a lot of attention to scaling, snowballing and exponential growth, so I absolutely prefer settling earlier and having bigger cities as a result
@@pugsy7658 I play a metric ton of Paradox stuff too. I think oddly enough the Harrappans with their runners are one of the best at my style of risky play because that extra 2 strength on your scouts (runners) is insane for early defense/expansion. They're not a warrior culture at all, but they are somehow amazing at the start when it matters the quite possibly the most.
In my last Victor OD game, I ended the Neolithic Age with 9 tribes. I took them down and obliterated my neighbours while my city slowly grew. I didn't wipe them out, but they didn't bother me for a good long while. That was before I realized I could disband them into city population. Next time I'll do the same, but with a few going to the city.
loved the merchant run and am looking forward to this one! one nitpick (that most people get wrong because of the influence of ecclesiastical latin messing up pronunciations) but the mycenaeans are pronounced with an 'ih' y (as in i griega), a hard c like a k, and an aean sounded adjacent to aeon , so more like mihken ayen rather than my sineeyin
32:00 - Oh yeah I ran into that too. Relocating is the answer, you put it on relocate for a couple turns then cancel the relocation. It's been reported on the forums so it should get fixed in the future.
This game looks really cool, kind of looks like what Civ 6 should've been IMO. I'm not sure if you're sponsored or anything, but I was wondering: Are there any criticisisms you have? Are there any things Civilization 5/6 does better? Are there any bugs, more than you would expect from a game in the early acces stage? No matter what you answer I still plan on picking up this game. Thanks for the clear videos! :)
The outpost has to finish building and be attached to a city before it can be considered adjacent. So its a good idea to build the city somewhere that has tiles connecting to lots of other territories.
I believe the increased influence cost on starting outposts increases the further you are trying to capture territory from your city. Stellaris has the same mechanic built in (though it is a little different) It seems these methods are implemented to stop the player from doing massive land grabs by taking strategic choke points spread across a large area. Thereby securing massive growth for themselves which can be parlayed into an easy win.
Found your channel when I was looking for examples of HK play and enjoyed your single city merchant run. Eager to see how you warmonger with this one but while I wait I think Im going to check out your maidens of Iceland CK3 play, that sounds like it could be good.
Smart, how the Devs have woven the music into progression, at the Neolithic Age there is only ambience and no music, and as soon as you enter the Ancient Era, the soundtrack picks up, making the game more dynamic.
I would have went for the natural wonders much sooner. Can't say no to that early influence boost. Looking forward to the next part, I'm curious how you handled the grievances and casus beli, I found it quite hard to be a full time warmonger (and I did like it like all of Humankind).
Quick question how many ants would it take to eat a bunch of pigeons. As a side note If you're into rpg strategy survival games try out cataclysm dark days ahead, a very good game with a ton of depth but not as visually good looking but I would be very into you looking into that game.
Ahh, so, a pigeon, on average, weighs up to ~350 grams. An ant needs to consume around 1/3 of it's body weight per day. Ants weigh up to 5 milligrams, so lets round and say 1.5 mg can be eaten per ant per day. So, 350 x 1000 ÷ 1.5 = 233,333.333 ants per pigeon. Of course, please multiply this number by the number of pigeons in your bunch to arrive at the maximum ants needed :D
Thanks so much for this lets play, i am loving what you do. Also it seems religion is super weak and has almost no value in game play other than generating grievances ? Is the 'empire' difficulty the highest ? Also, is there anyway to protect your outposts from ransacking ? Thanks again :)
I'd say religion can be very powerful depending on the tenets you pick. They give you bonuses to your accumulation of different resources for the number of holy sites you build, or the number of territories (your own and other players') that are under your religion's influence. I've seen Let's Plays of Humankind where almost all the science output of the player was coming from holy sites and the tenet that generates science for each. To protect your outposts from ransacking I'd say you can keep an army on the tile, but that seems a bit obvious... not sure if there are fortifications you can build, but some cultures' unique districts replace the normal outpost and are partially fortified, iirc.
That's right. The whole "open dev" approach to collect feedback has been an excellent approach, and these miniseries are an outcome of those opportunities!
@@Jake_the_Ging The press event had Edgar Alan Poe avatar for every streamer, which to me suggests there may be another open dev where we're playing as Edgar Alan Poe much like how we had Lucy before and Victor Hugo this time. I am betting on middle of this month or start of next month. Either way, I am super excited.
Unfortunately no unless they do another OpenDev (like Jake said). I don't think there are plans to do one from that latest build, but that could change!
You should really try eq’ing out the low frequency of your voice. Right now it’s quite boomy in the low frequency. Since the information in the lower frequency is less important, if you reduce it you can get a much louder perceived videos in general. Because you only limit/compress the important audio frequencies
i wanna play this but i dont know a thing about 4x games and I want to know how fun the conquering is cuz thats what i wanna do but idk how in depth/fleshed out is it
I understand that during this open dev the map is staying the same but, are you and the ai always going to spawn in the same spots also during the open dev cause it looks like you spawned in the exact same spot u did on the last series?
Yep the spawn points are the exact same, but the behaviours can be different (like the AI might make different moves on different difficulties and depending on what the player does)
Yep if you grab it from the link, it works just like a Steam pre-order. They just ended their closed Beta, though - I'm not sure if they'll do another before release!
This time around I switch it up and expand multiple cities to show how that works - thought I'd try and make the two playthroughs as different as possible
Maybe it's me but I was expecting alot more from this developer. One of the great things about the endless 4x games, was how truly unique each faction was not only in stats or units, but how they played and interacted on the campaign map.. So far this game seems very boring, all the same starting strategy no matter what faction you choose, go around collect food, make as many people as possible, then settle several regions. Also, no real opening threat, so boring, no danger in early period, seriously, probably the most dangerous time of human history was this early period. In endless games, you had free settlements always a threat. Also you can just, switch factions after every period, I find that counter to civilization history and religion. Just feels weird and immersion breaking. I will definatley skip, I'm also not a fan of this new marketing scheme, of making avatars of streamers or actors in games, a cheap gimmick, and very immersive breaking.
lol pre-recorded... recorded before it was recorded. i may be wrong but you could just use recorded. or just dont say it at all... i mean its youtube. watching things on it i think people understand its been recorded. maybe im wrong. what do i know.
Pre-recorded just implies the whole series has been recorded ahead of time (as opposed to me seeing comments of one episode before recording the following one).
Since there aren't different victory conditions, only different strategies to get there, you probably could make religion a big part of your strategy by using its tenets to gain some of the resources you need for era stars at a pretty fast rate if you know what you're doing. So if your religion dominates the whole continent, and you get a bonus based on territories under its influence, those are some quick era stars with little infrastructure investment.
Really like the livestream versions of your play throughs. As an introvert, it makes me pretend I have large group of friends lol. Actually preordered this!
i was a huge fan and backer of amplitude back when they worked on endless space 1, dungeon of the endless and endless legends. when they sold ES2 to sega i was disappointed tbh. and i really dont enjoy playing ES2 either. when humankind was announced i was curious, but then i saw the pricetag and they put me off once again. judging from what i see atm im really torn if i am willing to pay the price. i feel like the game looks very bland in its representation and i dont like the interface either. knowing sega im willing to bet that you pay like 140€ to get the full game in the end bc too many overpriced DLCs. will be keeping my eye on it because im really interested, but at the same time the gaming scene consists of 90% overpriced disappointments nowdays. ive become very sceptical, especially when properties get sold - kerbal space program 2 anybody? well see if take-two will F that up big time (wouldnt be surprised)
That moment when you couldn't settle Hatusa where you wanted to got me so second-handedly frustrated that I had to stop watching and come back later. I hate it when games does that, not giving you enough information to know something that ruins your plan for a one-time event within the game.
Hi PartyElite :D. Do you have a video covering combats/war in Humankind? I have watched the beginners guide. I'm looking for something more in depth. That part of the game really don't come naturally to me haha. I'm really struggling with how to use my armys both in manually combats and generally during war. If you don't have such a video, would you ever consider making a warfare-humankind guide? I hope you're doing well. Thank you for all of your high quality content and happy birthday :).
