A.I. Artificial intelligence. Machine Learning. Generative Adversarial Networks. Neural Engines. Dall-E. Midjourney. ChatGPT...
It’s the rise of the machines. Judgment day. Humanity deleted, as we become nothing more than an organic boot-loader for an indifferent hive of nanites that’ll crack our world for fuel on their way to dispassionately conquering the stars.
Oh, whoops. Whoopsie.
It’s the singularity. The great enlightenment. The golden age of humanity, sundered from all labor and toil as ambient world-computing erases all creative limitations, enabling us to literally go where no one has gone before.
Sorry. My bad. Again.
It’s… a tool. On an ever-escalating scale. Neither angel nor demon but we use it so, able to pre-viz a movie or deep-fake propaganda, chat-out an email response or cheat-up an essay, potentially the biggest board with the biggest nail yet, for building or bludgeoning alike.
Here are three stories...

It is hard to be optimistic Rene, because there is no way to currently use AI without also trampling the rights of humans. Our current economic model requires us to use it like a weapon against competition.

"Desk Set" (1957) with Katharine Hepburn and Spenser Tracy was a fabulous movie about the beginnings of machine vs human. The "machine" in question was named EMERAC, a slimly veiled pseudonym for the (1945) first major computer, ENIAC (a US military project). It's also a very entertaining film (one of the classics), if you can find it.

With understanding and the development of tools such as AI and things like ChatGpt it seems that the guidelines and ethical parameters come after the use of them. Or well the exposure of them. And as these things develop around us as humans we don’t continue developing with these tools. All tools seem to go through a pretty simple cycle of creation and then reach a peak where we are working with the tools harmoniously until they reach a point of efficiency where they causes more problems to the human experience rather than enhance it.

@KerrieRedgate
@KerrieRedgate Год назад
Just watched this on your Nebula channel, Rene. Have to comment here: The worst aspect of this *quick path* AI revolution is the loss of our human spirit. Time is not money. Time is Value. Things of value are things that have taken time to produce. And when we're taking that time in a creative sense, we are "in the zone". It's a place where time stands still for us, personally, as our spiritual consciousness is seeping through. It's a meditation. This aspect of Mind is far more creative than AI will ever be. Computers are fabulous, I use them every day (and night), but AI is something different. It thinks *for* us, like the disaster of Auto-Correct! As a veteran pro astrologer (of more than 3 decades), I can tell you that 2023 is the beginning of a new 21 year paradigm where tech will just go nuts. IOT will sweep through especially American homes. But at some point during this new paradigm, the internet will crash - everywhere. Just as the money system did in 2008 (right on schedule at the start of our current dying Paradigm), this new one will bring in a new lesson about our total reliance on technology - and also its use in wars. And 21 years from now, after the Age of Tech, there will be a huge spiritual revolution on this planet. We'll be done with tech. We'll become human again. But the next 21 years, especially from March, will be a doozy of a ride!
@germas5738
@germas5738 Год назад
Which year will this internet crash happen?
@KerrieRedgate
@KerrieRedgate Год назад
@@germas5738 The big Internet crash can happen at any time during this 21-year paradigm - it’s collectively up to us, really. There may be smaller glitches in the beginning, but I’m inclined to think it will be in the later stages of this new paradigm, as we’ll need to experience the full range of tech in our lives first. But early this year, there will be shocks of some sort, even environmental. The last paradigm caused structural collapses, this new one will cause more sudden complete collapses of things we depend on. But I think we will also come to realise that we are harmonic beings, with vibrant electrical circuitry (ask any acupuncturist), made of a lot more than visible flesh, and a lot more than our 5 physical senses in regard to our reality. Also, the dangers of all this wifi microwave radiation will emerge more publicly. Researchers only look at cancer. It’s not cancer, it’s brain resonance, it’s the “re-wiring” of our neural nets. We already have waaaaay too many satellites in orbit around the Earth, potentially disturbing our global field. The Earth’s electromagnetic field is vital for our existence, all living things are in resonance with its changes, constantly. I’ll have a book out hopefully by the end of this year, explaining the scientific source of these paradigms, with another couple of my research books. How we use energy dynamics is always up to us. We could have a golden era of humanitarian peace for 21 years, or more complex technologically terrifying wars. But AI and humanoid robotics will be finished after 21 years of our enslavement to our own laziness. With any innovation, just because we can, it doesn’t mean we should.

Chat GPT is frightening. What it portends is that humans will be adjunct in short order. People are using it to cheat, plagiarize and otherwise claim creative sovereignty over something that has nothing whatsoever to do with their own ability other than an impulse aka prompting. We need a new rating system for the creative arts. But yeah, not pretty.

Meritocracy has always been a lie, people have always cheated, plagiarized and copied, making it more efficient doesn't change human nature. AI/ML/Automation doesn't change the fact that people will always use tools to do something more efficiently in fact that adaptability is the reason we evolved above all the other species on this planet. I've been of the opinion that this automation is coming for literally any task we can think of and we can't stop it, what we need to do is adapt to it. Humans are the most adaptable species on the Earth, we inhabit every climate on the Earth, we have done all the jobs, we can adapt to this too.

I see a lot of potential with AI. I've used ChatGpt and am very impressed with the results when I asked it specific, technical questions. What concerns me is AI that performs functions such as driving a car, especially when it encounters new situations. What should the car do if old (and new) lane markers are visible, or there are none? What if a stop sign is obstructed by a tree/brush? Generally speaking, for repetitive, discrete tasks, I'm optimistic.

Loved your commentary. Whether AI creates or destroys jobs or destroys or enhances creative endeavors, the picture is much bigger than that. If AI becomes intelligent, it will not be a human intelligence. Maybe that would be better than if it could be human, as we are currently in a race with China to develop AI for military uses. And I find it hard to believe anybody is going to be exposing the AI’s to the Geneva Conventions on the proper uses of military force. The difference between AI and the atomic bomb is that AI will grow exponentially as it is relatively cheap compared to developing nuclear weapons. Nuclear weapons have been barely contained for eighty years. It is too late to contain AI.

AI is literally the new word processor and spreadsheet. As the tools standardize, it will replace a ton of manual work with automation. For example, it's a ton faster to cut out a person from a background with AI tools rather than manually lassoing them and cleaning up the result. Yes, some like self-driving cars are quite powerful. But the AI are not conscious. They cannot do smart things without humans driving them toward smart things. Without the right input, Dall-E will perform copyright infringement. ChatGPT will give you the most _generic_ story outline to be refined only with very directed input. These tools are just better versions of tools we used to build by hand. They've become a bit more capable and can perform tasks more effortlessly, acting somewhat like the computers on Star Trek. But as people start using them, they'll find the edges extraordinarily quickly and will learn the limits of the tools. Then the improvement cycles similar to Microsoft Office upgrades will begin. Just remember: There are no rooms full of typists and no large pools of human "computers" to do math anymore. And we're all just fine. Better than fine, even. It's the same cycle all over again.

In a time when we are severely lacking in critical thinkers, which used to be considered a high form of intelligence, allowing "Artificial intelligence" to be manufactured and distributed to the masses by the very people lacking in the former seems like a recipe for utter disaster. Having the ability to code surely doesn't signify intelligence in it's traditional, or true, form. And when the majority of coders are from the participation trophy generation and STILL never received said trophy I think that glaring lack of social participation will become painfully, if not catastrophically, obvious in the days, weeks or years to come.

There needs to be a clear definition between 'Artificial Intelligence' and 'Artificial Consciousness' because they could be two very different things. Or even 'Prompted AI' and 'Unprompted AI'. The real danger in AI is our response to it. The development of intellectual capacity relies on our ability to learn and mentally challenge ourselves. If future AI removes the challenge, then many will fail to develop. Perhaps there needs to a privilege of AI access where the computer unlocks additional AI privilege based on some form of proven intellectual development, so we don't do back as a species.

AI is a tool. We're tool users. As I've told people, you cannot have digital human scale intelligence until you have a hardware based human-brain like substrate. And there are deep limitations to how large that substrate can be and perform coherently - a volume limit due to interconnect latency. Because so many things happen in parallel and depend on components that can be distant from each other - there is a limit to how far away any two elements can be and still interact in a reasonable time without interference. This is what we refer to as "consciousness" and all that enables. However, a tool like an AI? It doesn't need that coherency - that conscious perception. We can build these incredible structures in code on our existing hardware and they can perform amazing tasks - compiling and searching through the collective knowledge of humanity to identify relevant information to an inquiry. Generating from that body of work images, sounds, and even animations with incredible fidelity and relevance to the request. But this is not thought. This is not conscious choice or creative application. And *that* is the danger of AI: It is so capable and amazing and returns with great accuracy exactly what we ask of it - a tool. And like any tool, it is up to the user to understand and comprehend that tool. And if the person with the tool is careless or unaware of what the tool is? They can hurt people - even hurt themselves - with their negligence in its use. It will not have the conscious awareness of what it is doing. It will not be able to make a choice to not deliver what it is asked for. If a person is not critical of its output - then any bad information in its training can lead to a false return that may cause harm. It is not the fault of the tool - it is the fault of the operator using it. When we have Digital Sophants that fit the concept of conscious, sentient and sapient beings and function at our level? They will use tools like this AI in the same way we do. We will all have access to these tools and we will all use them. It is this tool that will make us all equal, even if we as individuals are not *equal*. Its hard to imagine in a world so focused on hierarchies of capability and social position... but honestly, it can be a very powerful tool. And whether it causes harm or advancement? That's up to those that use it and their willingness to use it carefully and wisely.

why are people so paranoid about AI destroying humanity? a general topic that gets brought up is when you give A.I. a mission, it will stop at nothing in its path to complete the mission including killing humans if they're in the way. Its true. AI, is at its core no more than a tool. A tool that can be both harmful and extremely detrimental, and extremely useful and beneficial. AI merely achieves the purpose it was created for. If it wasn't created for a specific purpose, and was instead created for an array of purposes and possesses many utilities, it's simply a more advanced AI. The truth of the matter concerning AI is that it's nothing more than a tool. Every tool is a double edged sword(metaphorically speaking), though some tools are either more or less harmful than others As long as we implement security measures such as limiting the power an AI possesses, the harm it can cause isn't as exaggerated. We only make use of it's safer capabilities and only recieving benefits, while not receiving harm. AI will not take over the world, because there will be very little AI's built for that purpose once countries realize the strategic and/or also potentially the combat power of A.I. However the society we are striding towards is one that is peace centered. We humans have already realized the Future threat of A.I, and nobody will ignore that threat, unless of course everyone unanimously decides it's time for humanity to die of course.
