How that voice came out of that little white guy from London who looked more like the Artful Dodger than a rock star is one of life's great mysteries. God Bless Stevie Marriott - greatest rock vocalist of 'em all!
Have you heard him recently? His voice is shot. It's an embarrassment. As a 51 year old who was blooded on the Bon era AC/DC, I think they should have thrown in the towel years ago. Rock is a young man's game. I'd prefer to be left with the magic and the memories rather than watching some creaking pensioner hobble around the stage in spandex, thinking he's still 25 years old.
Just look at the cute smiles being passed back and forth between Steve and the Blackberries. I couldn't love this performance any more. It's hard to imagine anything this good being played live on broadcast TV now.
Banks are built to take it all Divisiion Helps them in their little scheme look at behind the lines Troy and the Athens communities Sacrotees even said whats for bidden to say today
How he wasn't a gigantic, in-demand, star in his prime, is just criminal. Stunning talent and musicality. Now I see why Frampton left HP. You can't shine standing next to the Sun.
500 years will pass and if humans are still alive they will look upon this era as the pinnacle of musicianship. It was the right mix of people, personalities, vibes, and love that produced this kind of music. In that generation there was a huge tranch of people who were schooled in music through church, pianos in the house, etc..... with only 5 channels on TV, no cell phones, no Internet..... they no doubt were more focused. It won't happen again. This will never, ever, ever happen again.
Steve Marriot was one of the greatest singer/guitarist that ever walked the planet. What a Soulful voice. Saw Humble Pie in concert in 1971. Great show...........
Steve Marriott was small in stature. Musically he was a giant, I could listen to him sing all day it's a shame what has happened to the music industry,
I love this performance so much. The back up singers are so so so good, and Steve, man he is a great performer. The whole thing to me is flawless. You can't teach this kind of playing you have to live it, and breath it. Listen to the bass and guitar player harmonized those tones!
Ah,the Blackberries( Veneta,Clydie,Shirley Matthews and Merry Clayton)are all over albums by the Stones,Pink Floyd,Linda Ronstad, and so many others in the 70's.Merry's vocal on Gimme Shelter in 1968 was so stunning, after that,it seemed every band wanted those girls behind them.
I love people like Steve who are way ahead of their time and just accept everyone for how they are. No matter what color or ethnicity or anything people are born with. Love it, and what talent amongst the entire group! :)
Wonderful. Those girls were tickled to death. All had a great time. It almost seems they forgot they were recording. Just enjoying themselves. That's rock n roll.
I was the Road manager for a band called HOOKFOOT thru the late sixties and early seventies. We did a British Tour supporting HUMBLE PIE in 1973. One of the best times that I had! It was around the time of the ‘Power Cuts’ which made it very interesting. One of the Venues we did was South Parade Pier, in Southsea, and we had a Bomb scare! Caused by some ‘Brain Dead’ calling it in because he couldn’t get tickets due to a sellout! Those were the days.
In the Olden days, I use to stop/start my recorder and listen to every line sang...but with the advent of RU-vid and their compliments here are the lyrics..... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Di-hu7xS5lk.html
...never too late for class A...Blues...Brother. 'Steve'...utterly 'had me'...with 'Tin Soldier' in the early 60's...and I never 'let go'...he may not be in the HOF but his genius is 'inscribed' on the Heart of everyone who heard his voice. Eternally awesome.

RIP Clydie King (21 August 1943 - 7 January 2019) Thanks for your stellar vocal contributions on hundreds of recordings. You're one of the very best. I treasure the time I was privileged to hear you sing with Dylan on his Shot of Love Tour. Wow. If I could time travel, it would be to hear you and that rockin' show again.
I would pay any money to see the Stones in the early 70s with Mick, Keith, Mick Taylor, Steve Marriott, Charlie, and Bill. At that point, I'd call them the greatest rock and roll band to walk the earth.
@@cs-7 As double threat on vocals & axe, I hope history doesn’t forget it was Richards who welcomed the collaboration and Jagger who vetoed it out of personal self-interest. Which follows considering Jagger’s greatest asset to band was never his vocals but his shrewd, self-preservationist business instincts that probably understood sooner & better than anyone how deftly someone with Marriott’s chops could upstage him. That Jagger’s gain amounts to one of rock canon’s greatest losses probably never cost him a single nights sleep, but bet you every once in a while Richard still thinks about it, and feels it when he does.
I'm always blown away by this performance. It's so sexy. Steve's voice is mindboggling and the Blackberries are sublime. So very good. I really miss Steve Marriott.
" ... You see my skin is white, but my soul is black .. !! " It just Doesn't get any better than this. Steve Marriott was, and will ALWAYS be awesome. His voice makes it worth while for me to have ears to start with. And Damned if this video doesn't make me the happiest fan in the world every time I lay eyes on it. ~ Thank you, "kat Mats". :)
It was great to hear Black Coffee used in the HBO special Vinyl use this song. So many artist got screwed by their label back then including Humble Pie.
Sorry about the late reply . I am doing decently . In the middle of a transformation , in general, as well as in life. I got almost all of my Christmas shopping done. How about you?
The Great Steve Marriot, truly one of the best , what a voice & truly underrated guitarist too, ",,,see my skin is white but my soul is Black,,,, GOOSEBUMPS !!.
I watch this and come back to it every few months and share it with my friends... and no-one complains. Makes me feel 18 again, as I was then. Just love it
Seen the Pie i believe in 70. Was supposed to go to Woodstock but my brothers didn't get back from Nam at the right time . I miss Steve , what a voice & all around musician , I still go to concerts today to support the great music of these days .
I am convinced this performance/video is the greatest thing I've ever heard and seen. Amazing! I showed it to my 7 year old brother and now it's his favorite song!
