why not get a single in the middle, hums at the neck and bridge (i say this as someone who owns an HSS strat, i never use the neck pickup) or alternatively active pickups which can act as both singles and humbuckers
fender jagtang. its pretty pricey, but its the same guitar kurt cobain used and pretty much designed. has a single coil neck pickup and a humbucker bridge pickup
I'm switching my single coil for a humbucker because of the goddamn noise it produced on overdrive. Cool tone, but forget recording a good quality track with the buzz.
As someone who likes some heavy music but isn’t necessarily a “metal head”, I love single coil pickups in heavier music.. particularly Billy Corgans playing in smashing pumpkins. Great tonal aspect, and unique sound
Single coils! They always sound clear bright and articulate. If you want to muffle them a bit you can roll the tone a little. Humbuckers USUALLY have a fuzzy muffled sound to me and you can't add brightnes and clarity with a knob!
Tbh, I think humbuckers are more brighter then single coils. Single coils are cool but humbuckers stand out more and have that nicer tone in the guitar itself.
I like and use both humbuckers and single coil pickups in my guitars. Which one I choose at any given time depends on the songl I'm playing and the sound I'm looking for.
single coils are knives and humbuckers are hammer. Both is needed to make a house. I think a HSS strat covers all the grounds. Also you can't really beat the clean tone of a Fender
Didn't sound very clean. I have 21 pickup configurations on my LP, including mixes of humbucker and single, which sounds good. But with enough od they all sound the same
Humbuckers when it comes to clean. Thicker is better. With distortion, everything sounds the same. Single coils just sound a little thinner. That’s it.
