Hi John. I've been using your products for two years. My soil has changed a lot...it's squishy now...even in the heat of the summer. Another observation, this year, my lawn woke up at least 2 weeks before anyone else. I'm pretty certain I am the only person who has mowed in my county in NW Ohio...and I've mowed twice and layed down some beautiful stripes the last time.

This is a great video with a lot of educational depth which sets lawncolony apart from the other low level of information channels. Keep up the good informational work. My suggestion for a future video is to talk about how N-ext products can be used to correct a soil area that got treated with a too high dose of herbicide and turf struggles to germinate / grow.

I just spread a bag of Humic DG from The Anderson's (because I don't like liquid when it's so windy). My primary goal is to loosen the compacted clay from new construction. My front yard looks absolutely fantastic now since I dug up a few spots that were hiding some construction gravel and not letting the roots get down or absorbing the heat this summer. But my back yard has a few spots that are brown, thin, weak, and look really bad because of the compacted soil. I can't even get a pitchfork to penetrate more than an inch. So, I'm hoping this Humic treatment will help. I'm also planning of spreading a couple of bags of compost over those areas as well in hopes the rain will push some OM lower into the soil. Probably wishful thinking, but I'm not sure what else to do. I did aerate recently, but the ground is still like concrete in those spots. That's my story. I did want to add that you are obviously one super sharp dude and I really enjoy your videos. Very informative. Thanks for sharing. Would appreciate any thoughts you might have on my situation.

I spent quite a bit of time over the winter listening to guys like Gabe Brown talk about soil health and how synthetic fertilizers, specifically salts were sterilizing the microbes in the soil. If you could clarify for me, as I'm a little confused what we are trying to accomplish. I'm completely open-minded but I need to understand how we use synthetic fertilizers to improve the soil. I know this is a really loaded question but I've got some gaps missing that I need To fill in. We've got a lot of really crappy soil here in Colorado I'm trying to give my customers a fresh approach that will finally solve their problems.

Great video John. My lawn has improved year over year, but I still have some weak spots. Is it ok to "Spray it Black?", or, in other words, put a large volume of Humid 12 on the weak spots? Specifically, still dilute at the 7:1 ratio of water to Humic 12, but put a higher volume on the weak or bare areas? I have dug these areas up, and can't find any construction debris underneath. Just poor Texas clay soil.

Hi John, getting ready to send in my soil tests to spectrum analytic for analysis. My Texas black clay yard really needs work and it shows as my yard seem to regress. I've decided to concentrate on not pushing Nitrogen above 1/2 lb or less per 1,000 and focus on building up my soil to break up this clay and not compete with top growth. Besides Humic12, Air-8, RGS what else should I be using on a regular basis and is it ever possible to use too much Humic Acid? Thanks !!!

so the question in my mind is, how much of these substances are needed to create real results? For example if a fertilizer says it contains 3% humic acid is that enough to really do anything. Anderson's Humic DG says it is 70% humic acid but if you put down 3lbs/1000sqft, are you really doing much to change anything? BTW I'm asking because I really don't know.

Does humic acid stay or have a residual that stays in soil, or does it leach out (for lack of a better term) over time in clay type soil?
@Lawncology
@Lawncology 4 года назад
The acid does have a half life, since it’s been flushed and detached from what kept it stable, it will eventually move through the soil. Any carbon that is in the source material will stay behind for further soil life to develop within.

This question is not directed towards humic product but towards the Dethatch product. Does Dethatch add microbes to the soil ?
@Lawncology
@Lawncology 4 года назад
there are some yeast strains present, that end up as an additional food source for microbes. But it is not a "live material" as some products are. This rapidly stimulates microbes and provides a "sweet boost" to get to work.

@JoNathanB1976
@JoNathanB1976 4 года назад
@@bryanfelver6125 I seem to recall he answered that in a previous video. In that video he said that it is not necessary to add microbes rather it is better to feed the microbes that are already there. That's why Dethatch contains molasses to feed and excite the microbes that are already there. Only a little mind you. We don't the bacteria to get lazy and wait for more molasses but get excited and then feed aggressively on the organic matter in the thatch layer of the soil.

two different things, think of char as a sponge, super porous, super electric.It can capture nutrients in the soil solution and keep them from washing with water, as well as bring some aeration to the soil. Anything thing that was in the source material will have been burned out to leave only carbon. humic acid and bio char can compliment each other very well.

I really started to use Humic two years about with the Humic12 product (4 times a yra). I then increased that last year. I would use a granular Humic product in between my Humic12 applications. This leads me to my question, and it comes down to what I noticed. When I applied Humic every 4 weeks (alternating Granular and Liquid), the soil seemed to retrain water better. Is this because of the better soil structure, or does Humic provide some water retention benefits to clay soils? It seemed to soften my clay soil a bit. I struggled last spring due to cold weather and a late June start as I am in Colorado, and getting water to penetrate my ground was limited. The summer was awful for water retention, but by late summer and on into fall the Humic really seemed to take hold and assist my fertilizer and build that soil structure up. I did do a mechanical soil aeration in September, but I still feel it was the Humic that helped the soil and allowed more water to penetrate. I of course used air8, but it never had the same effects right away as just a good old Humic application. Maybe, the humic was releasing the air8 and allowing it to do its thing....but I will do both again this year and look forward to continued success in getting my soil right.
@icaughtyoubasstard4877

Adding both granular and liquid will enrich your soil as you notice by adding More then the basic amount from liquid. The more you add of Humic the better esp if you use both kinds granular and liquids. Keep adding each year and it will hold in more water in the soil. This will produce a thicker and greener lawn every year! If you read my post on here it will explain more about it from my opinion and results.

Is it true that humic acid will reverse the damage of roundup/glyphosate to some extent? Used in clay soil in Georgia. The herbicide is said to tie up nutrients in the soil and starve the plant, making it more susceptible to diseases, among other things.

Thanks for sharing all your knowledge. So to sum it all up ...humid acid is a product that helps “unlocking” already available nutrients in the soil ? Question: How effective is it as a stand alone application? What’s the time commitment in order to see changes in your lawn/soil? Are we talking months or years?
@Lawncology
@Lawncology 4 года назад
Depending on what’s in your soil, changes can happen very very fast. Standalone it’s great in midsummer

Can you mix humic and sea kelp together to spray or is it better to do it separately.
@Lawncology
@Lawncology 4 года назад
They can be spayed together for the most part. I guess it would depend on the source material. There is a synergy between the two that make for a dynamic duo

I just picked up humic12 and some air8 and rgs and microgreens but I'm going to Reno my lawn this summer so I'll probably just use it in my flower beds this year and next year hit the lawn hard ...or do you think that would benefit using it now on the lawn?

Is there a limit amount of how much can be Applied per year? Can too much be bad?
@Lawncology
@Lawncology 4 года назад
There’s a point of diminishing returns with everything. I have general guidelines for where I see the best return for the investment/soil results. This is a max of 10 gallons per acre annually. Typically the app season total is 5-7. I have applied to areas for years that are 1000x that rate at our plant I’m Georgia and completely changed the soil. It’s not a cost effective method by any means. But we transformed hardpan clay to top soil more than a foot deep in that time.

Ok. So I've possibly missed a video somewhere in the RU-vid universe that already explains this. Or maybe it's just my over 50 memory. I hear you and some others use the term chelate (sp?). Or chelated iron. Could you explain exactly what that is or refer me to an already existing video that does? Thanks!

Due to circumstance I was forced to seed fescue in spring (5-11-20) and we’ve already had a few days over 100 here in California. My in ground irrigation system is pretty solid (Tuna can tested it), tilled in 3/4” organic compost at 8” to the entirety of the yard and the grass is growing in pretty thick. There is one small section however that is struggling a bit. I’ve mowed the rest of the lawn twice at 3 1/2” but the struggling grass was untouched both times. Could painting it black or just adding some humic be beneficial to my struggling baby grass?
@Lawncology

Yes it can. It’s a wonderful addition to newly seeded areas and can definitely help to fill spaces

Justin Jones so dog spots are a pH and salt load. Water and air8 can help, or liquid calcium to flush.

I purchased a liquid humic acid product and discovered it had a strong rotten egg smell. It was manufactured in Florida. A brand spokesperson attributed the smell to the sulfur content of the water they use. Nevertheless, I decided not to apply it. Has anyone else encountered this?
