Humic Acid Powder, Humic Acid Liquid, Humic Acid Granular

Humic Acid Powder, Humic Acid Liquid, Humic Acid Granular... So many questions. It's easy to get stuck on concentrations without considering what each will give your plants and soil. I will walk through these and talk about the positives and negatives of each. Tell you how and why we manufacture the humic that we do, and hopefully shed some light on the differences. If you want to make your own suspension (DIY Humic Liquid), you can see how the the differences between suspension and solutions work.
Everyone should consider getting humic into their program whether is DIY Lawn or Pro's Lawn Applicators. The composition of the soil under heavy care has changed and the lack of OM in the soil creates less acids than before.
The most important thing to take away from this video is: It's your lawn, you make the choices for it, and it's no one else's business what you do.
I am merely going to show some of the mode of actions and what you can expect from each.

What a awesome video, growing up on a farm we used to apply micros ,macros to our crops, I thought for years there has to be some type of product out there for lawns, thank you green county fertilizer company for coming up with amazing products and explaining them very very well, the lawn care nut Mr.Castleberry, GCI, and your channel,Lawncology,I’ve purchased your amazing products and they are awesome, simple to use, I cannot say enough great things about Greene county fertilizer products, and I feel the prices are great too, I am from Lakeville mn and you have made my Lawn and soil healthy and green again, and fast shipping from LCN and GCI, that’s where I order from, so I salute you all for the awesome products and hard work that you all do, and helping out us DIY , and saving us money for not hiring a lawn service that doesn’t really care about our lawns, they just take the money and run, my lawn has done a 180 turnaround and so so thick, it’s awesome to have neighbors kids comment on how dark green and thick and soft the lawn is , my daughters friends always want to come over and play in the grass because it’s soft, bug and insect free, thanks for the awesome company and great people involved with the company 👍👍

John, that was absolutely awesome. Thank you for the visuals, it really helps. I've been using the Bio-Stimulant pack all summer. We've had 90+ degree heat and high humidity for a few weeks here in SW Va. All my neighbors lawns (weed patches w/ k31) are brown, my TTTF/KBG lawn is lush green and I'm actually not watering that much. Last summer (w/o N-Ext products) my lawn suffered in the heat even though I watered deeply twice / week.

First of all I want to say great video for the breakdown on the different Humic/Humate products, this is what I was waiting for! I've bought a bio stimulant packs, and I've been using The Andersons DG, (those are not Andersons) but almost break down a little similar. I agree that the Humic12 works faster, however it doesn't last as long as the DG ie. Like a slow release. Now I'll tell you I use 1 application of the DG and 3 applications of 12 for the kick! I've been doing this for just over a year now with awesome results. Keep up the good work!

Hi John, was given granular humic for payment from landscape company for service rendered my choice. You are correct you need a bunch of product for one application. Now if you take your product and look at cost of application and bang for your buck Humic 12 is the way to go. I am no professional by no means just a DYI guy with a nice looking yard. John, excellent video again. I've watched most of your lawncology videos and the summit videos also. I'm a first year user of the N-EXT bio stimulant 4 pack and am very impressed. Although we have a few weeks of high heat and humidity here in upstate n.y. my lawn has had little to no fade in color at all. I've already lowered my N rates dramatically this year and guess what? Lawn in thick, tall, and double dark green. A funny thing also. I have a 90 pound german shepard in my back yard for 4 years now on a runner that has worn out large portions of my grass and compacted my soil in this areas. I used Air 8 (2 applications this year with RGS and Humic Acid at the max rate in these compacted areas (Heavy clay soil). My wife recently went outside and stated that it look like we had a earth quake hit the back yard as these products have broken up the compacted ( 1/4 inch cracks in the compacted soil areas everywhere...) so well. My wife knows nothing about lawn care or your products but AIR 8 does it job and its ten times worth its price for heavy compacted soils... i'm also in the process of reseeding these areas and i am having awesome germination rates and green healthy new grass. (Used all four products on the newly seeded areas at the low rates) Thank you for your awesome products.

First year using your product. Thanks for sharing this info. I have learned allot about humic this last year. I was wondering about the other products. Mostly because of cost and with all the hype of each. All I know is when I apply your product I can see its effects clearly in a very short time. Your video will allow me to explain the product to clients a bit better. In the end they just want green lawn right. So I am in the State of Washington. Why is it so hard to get this shipped here? I know this state has some funky rules. I am going to need to figure out a method to get some more as I will be running out of what I have soon.

Hi John, I've commented before about my battle with rabbits. I have one area that they continue to visit and destroy. Coupled with heat stress from our 80-90 degree weather, I wanted to tear it out! Been using your products to rebuild the soil, but it was when I saw your video on going heavy with the humic12, that I had an idea. End of June I covered the entire section with burlap to protect it from the high heat, (and those little a holes), and noticed some small improvement. 9 days ago I went heavy with the humic12, watered it in, and today there is a noticeable improvement in the overall appearance. And boy, did it grow and green up! I still don't know how to keep the rabbits off, (I've tried everything) - they even sit on top of the burlap peeing and pooping like they're just waiting for it to come off :-) PS Like many others (I'm in CA) waiting for shipping to be ok'd

Thanks for sharing John! Just starting using your products this year. Your video has made me wonder more about humate as I've been looking more into it and incorporating it into my lawn. Is there any differences in humate powders? Or would most (all?) behave the way you have illustrated in the video? After watching your video I saw another video where they illustrate how quickly their humate will disperse in water. They didn't include a time lapse like you did to show if it will stay dispersed or will settle.
@Lawncology

+Sad Trombone it’s all dependent upon the manufacturing technique. The material mixes in well, but it doesn’t stay in solution. That tells me that the water will separate from the particulate before it makes it into the soil

The reality of all of these products is water is the carrier. The porosity of your soil will depend on how far these products can travel down with water. Fortunately we can force soil porosity with aereation. If I could I would aerate my lawn everytime prior to putting down fertilizer. The fertilizer would fall down into the aerated holes next to the roots instead of sitting on top of the soil. Water will dissolve everything so the roots will absorb it.
@Lawncology
@Lawncology 5 лет назад
Mo Cobb that’s is right. Water carrier is what’s needed and that was the point behind the demo, see what stays up what passes easily, everything will do work in the soil, just differently

Hey John. I have few spots in my lawn that dry out faster than the rest. I can tell by the grass turning little black at the end of hot day. After I water it the grass comes back to life. I’ve been using your products for almost a year now and my lawn looks awesome. Which product or products can I use little heavier in those spots to improve soil water retention so the grass and soil doesn’t stress out?

The problem is that the SP-90 product is labeled and marketed as soluble. it isn't, it is just very finely milled. If put into consistent labeling with other turf products it is a WDG or suspendable powder. I think another neat test you could do it to run both the H12 and SP-90 though a brita or other type gravity filtration device to see what comes out the bottom. Hopefully I'll see you at GIE in the fall, I've had my ticket for a bit now.

Very good demonstration, John. I would imagine that you use this demonstration on sales calls because it really illustrates the differences in the products well. One question came to mind. In your Humic 12 you said that your product contained 12% humic. Why did you choose that percentage of humic and what benefit or harm would you see if it was a higher percentage?
@Lawncology
@Lawncology 5 лет назад
+Ben Harrison I have to be honest, I had never done that before. No practice was done, just shot from the hip with an idea. The 12% level balances out microbial action and acid usability. It also is a good level for ease of use.

I've been using both Humic12 and Humic DG granular and I find it's easier for me to apply the granular than a liquid in some cases, considering the Ortho hose end sprayer takes awhile to cover a good amount of square footage, but have certainly been spraying the Humic12 in many areas and painting them black with good results. I guess my question would be if you were comparing that in your example in this video? I personally think that particular granular does break down pretty good, no? Lastly, I know slightly off topic, but does D-thatch help or hurt during fungal stress and does Humic12 help or hurt?
@alexmussman6372
@alexmussman6372 5 лет назад
Brian Schmitz what you’re saying is my exact same thought process. I like to believe that the Humic12 is a better product (in theory as this video shows) but in actual practice I don’t think there is a significant amount of difference noticed to the lawn. I hate dealing with applying liquids since there’s not a great high quality CONSISTENT sprayer available for the DIYers that this product is marketed to. The spreader takes me 10 minutes start to finish to open a bag and spread it over my 7k sq ft.
@brianschmitz6188
@brianschmitz6188 5 лет назад
@@alexmussman6372 I was more curious to note whether the granular being compared was similar to Anderson's Humic DG, which I've found to be pretty solid in my experience, or something different. It is always recommended to water them in, so if you're not going to get rain that day or night, you've got to do that manually, and sometimes it's cool at that point, to water them in with some one the N-EXt products, which takes it to the next level and then some. The benefit of the liquids, is that technically you shouldn't have to water them into the lawn too much, but it is recommended to water them in a bit. That's always the hard part, if you don't have a built-in sprinkler system. DIY is great, but we're still amateurs with just sprinklers in some instances.. :-)

Thanks for the video! Quick question: Are other manufacturers really dehydrating a solution to get a powder? I was under the impression they were changing the pH of the solution such that the humic substance was precipitated out of the solution. After all, that is the definition of humic acid when trying to compare it to substances like fulvic, humis, etc.

With your product being extracted from ground leonardite using a chemical process in which the humic/fulvic is extracted in an alkaline bath, I would assume its’ been denatured? Using strong acids/bases to extract will typically denature the material, prolonging the ability for bacteria/fungi to utilize it in a timely manner. You mention how the response can be seen right away, it is my understanding that it can take the micro organisms 6 weeks to 6 months to re-nature the humic material when extracted using strong acids/bases. Thank you. Nice video, I liked the Tarantino-esqe flashback/different angle with the time lapse bit....Hey man, have good one....🤘🏼
@Lawncology
@Lawncology 5 лет назад
+Lawn Creeps Ltd. it takes some time to recolonize and in the balance of the 12% we’ve found more of an equilibrium. Less content more microbes, more content, lengthier time.
@soilcreepsandgardengeeks71
@soilcreepsandgardengeeks71 5 лет назад
You have found that less content in the extraction brings it back to microbial availability quicker? I understand the piece about the viscosity/consistency and it being able to penetrate into the soil, but is the material itself available to the micro biology right away after being extracted using your chemical process? It is my understanding that it would take roughly the above mentioned time frame for the fungi and the bacteria to re-nature the content (fungi:humic/fulvic bacteria:fulvic ) after the strong chemical process.. Thanks man. Hey dude I forgot about the safety dance bit as well, that was awesome.
@Lawncology
@Lawncology 5 лет назад
Lawn Creeps Ltd. so according to the old timers in the Humic biz, the higher content gives greater root changes, but lowers microbial inter faces. Now, I do not have timing in colonization and I do Know some labs that can do that. Perhaps that’s a study for the winter

Is it possible to buy a gallon of the humic 12 without having to buy 3 other products with it ? I would really like to try some but once I build a box with four gallons of product the price jumps up to around $100 (from the link provided by Allen Hane). Pairing humic12 and RGS with Air8, in a hose end in 3 separate treatments but the same day, would that Air8 increase performance of these products because its allowing it to reach further in to the soil? An additional question would be how long does it take for Air8 to break the bonds on the soil surface? Just last week, I applied these 3 products together for the first time and have noticed an increase in uptake and response time in my zoysia stand I have. I wasn’t sure if I was just doing a better job with the watering in process or if the Air8 was giving me a boost. Thanks John, love the vids.
@Lawncology
@Lawncology 5 лет назад
+Jake Gump it is quite possible that the air8 would push further but... if you went out three separate passes, you’ve relieved surface tension of the soil every time you go by, allowing deeper soil penetration just because of the time between passes
