Thanks im learning something new every day ! Have had my Helix 7 for 5 years, and did not know all of these things, I simply could not find all this information. I plan on putting together your playlist of the top five or seven or eight videos and going out on the water with the first half of my morning just learning how to set up my hummingbird. It's likely that's why I've not been catching that much fish thank you very much for all the information. I'm loving it.
Thank you for not giving me your family history and getting to the subject matter immediately. Your tutorials are very thorough and easy to follow. Too many do not walk you through each step and button to accomplish a goal. One observation is remembering all the steps and buttons required to use a feature on a fishfinder. Unless you use these features frequently, you will not remember what button comes next. This is not your responsibility but the nature of the beast on all fishfinder brands. However, I have a Lowrance side imaging fishfinder and the Hummingbird Helix unit. I find the Hummingbird unit to be more user friendly. Plus the transducer for the Humming bird is 1/4 as long and less subject to get broken. Thanks for the tutorial. I wish I could get a phone signal.on the lakes I fish. I could watch your tutorial and apply it while actually fishing. Maybe Elon Musk could fix that problem.
Thanks for the very informative video of useful techniques and tips. I had no idea about these functions and capabilities. Your easy to follow step by step instructions are enabling me to understand how to maximize my Helix. I’m subbing, saving, and taking notes! Great stuff by a great teacher!
Great video Steve. Sure puts the guys doing HB videos to shame. More info in easy terms and explanations. Will have to check out your other vids. Thank you.
Thanks for the kind words Brian. I do my best to help by breaking things down into user friendly progressions for beginners with advanced tips as well.
Thank you Mike, they have to be connected with an Ethernet cable to share waypoints. If you are networking multiple things into your network you will need a 5 port Ethernet switch.
I am a retired teacher and people learn in different ways. I agree that printing off the manual and tinkering with your units is a great way to learn. It’s the way I learned but You Tube is an excellent option for those who learn by watching.
Very good point! I am guilty as charged. I keep my boat in a storage unit about 10 minutes from my home. I have often wondered if it is possible to set up my Helix unit on a battery in my basement to expand my capabilities. Is there a way to do this? I have a Great Plains Lakemaster SD card. I would really like to explore some of the lakes and set waypoints etc here at home this winter. Any help or advice on this would be most appreciated!
Thanks Steve . I have a new humminbird . When I use side imaging and lets say I mark a waypoint 50 feet to the right of the boat , as soon as I hit " NAV to waypoint X " it invariably says " you have arrived ", though Im no where close to the new wayoint . Thanks for your help
Hi Steve and thanks for your thoroughness in explaining these functions. Using Lakemaster map charts, is it possible to be at home and pull up a far away lake to place waypoints. I seem to have trouble coursoring to lakes that are far from my current location. Thanks.
Hi Junie, yes you should be able to save waypoints. You can look up specific lakes by checking out the Lake list option. Cursoring is easier when you the North Up option for map orientation.
Steve very good video I’m pretty new at this but I’m learning ?? I have helix 12 on concsole 10 on now link together do I have to set both up or set console and it shares with bow ?
Thanks Curtis, if you are simply connecting the two units together, you just need an Ethernet cable and two dongles. The video on my RU-vid channel, “My One Boat Network” should help give you a better understanding of how things link together if you plan on using IPilot Link or networking in more things. You can use the network feature to share screens.
Press and hold the mark button and it will save the screenshot. You will need a sd Card in the unit. After saving the screenshot, you can put the sd card in your computer then transfer to your photos. I plan on making a video of saving screenshots and using the mark button.
Hi David, I think the MegaLive Target Lock will be awesome! There is no plain target lock currently. It depends on whether you have an independent MegaLive mount vs mounted on the trolling motor.
A newbie and another great video. Question on tracks. Every time I take a ride in my boat it shows me a track or where I have been. I can clear ALL TRACKs but then comes back. Is there an adjustment that gets rid of that track all together.
Hi Brian, personally, I would go to menu button and on the X-press menu, hit clear current track before you head out. That will eliminate previous tracks. The track feature is an important safety tool to get back to your departure point especially in foggy conditions and navigating new waterways.
If you hit the menu button twice, go to the Nav tab, click current track, go to stop tracking. You could also go into appearance and change colour track, styles, or make the track hidden.
