My latest adventure to find hummingbirds to photograph took me to the middle of the world in Ecuador. In this video you will see how difficult it is to walk on the equator and how and why water goes down the drain differently in the northern and southern hemispheres. Visit the lovely Puembo Birding Garden with me and meet the owner and noted conservationist Mercedes Ribadeniera.

My name is Carole Turek and I am on a quest to photograph every single hummingbird species on the planet! There are over 350 types and I currently have photographed more than 180 of them.
Whether you are a hummingbird or bird enthusiast, a birding photographer, a general birder, or you just love nature, we have something here for you!
Come with me virtually as I explore Central and South America to find the most beautiful hummingbirds in the world.

The Coriolis Effect demonstration was fascinating, only a few feet in either direction the effect was felt as strongly as if you would be miles from the equator. I especially loved the garden with the one directional glass- I would love to observe them unobstructed without disturbing them in their environment.. that’s such a great idea!

While I truly love the pictures and videos of the hummingbirds, the addition of cultural and nature information like this, along with the drone footage, adds so much to the overall enjoyment of your videos. They keep getting better and better. Keep it up, Carole.

We learn about the Coriolis effect in science class. This was a great video Carole, one of your best! Such nice aerial views. Thanks for sharing

Several years ago my husband and I visited the Equator before our trip to The Galapagos. We didn’t get to see the museum, so this was a treat. At the time there was a most amazing exhibit of large sculptures of hummingbirds painted by local artists. . We did book a personal tour to see hummingbirds while there. We would love to return to Ecuador one day.

Wow Carole, I remember being here since 11K subscribers or so. When I saw this channel I knew I had seen something special; a couple of very talented people, spreading the joy of birding around the world. I am thrilled to say that I have been here ever since with another 43K subscribers added from there, having went from modest videos, like watching a brief report about what hummingbirds Carole has seen in the wild and hummingbird feeder tips, all the way to showing the brutal but beautiful reality of hummingbird birth, and now to this blossoming video, your hosting worthy of the Travel Channel, it is simply amazing. I say that you have graduated from not only showing how awesome hummingbirds are but to show how underlooked and cool Central and Southern America is. Hopefully people will go and visit, you've inspired me to go and visit Ecuador, and blessing and best wishes to William Orellana who has always been your faithful and excellent guide through these wild lands. I hope more people will like share comment and subscribe so these videos will be more seen. I can't believe this hasn't gone to at least 10K views not barely under 1K, its such a shame, you are the best hummingbirder on RU-vid and deserve more.

Can I just say the videography, the editing, all of it was so stunning. And Carole, thanks for bringing us along on these adventures - the Egg Master! This was so fun, thank you for not only sharing the world of hummingbirds with us, but some good-hearted travel. We need this kind of positivity! Can't say enough good things about the quality of it, well done

That was such a fun journey. Your guide Catherine was very good with explaining and demonstrating everything. I was fascinated with the woman hand spinning her own thread. There was so much there that I’ve heard about before, but never really thought about. It looked fun. Thank you for the video.

The Coriolis effect is actually maximal at the equator as that is the part of the Earth spinning the fastest.

Coriolis and candiru; not to nitpick, but.... Candiru swimming up the urethra is a myth; there are no good documented accounts of this ever happening. Also, that dried fish is not a candiru- looks to be in the Farlowella or other similar genus. Regarding the coriolis force, your instinct was right- it wouldn't have any effect. In fact, no matter how close or far from the equator, it won't have measurable effect on a small system. She did a trick. If you look where the water goes straight down, it was still and unmoving before she pulled the plug. The clockwise and counterclockwise examples were from how she poured the water- you will notice the leaves are already rotating in the desired direction before she pulled the plug. Love your videos though! I'm watchiing them all. 🙂

Even more amazing because the earth is level and stationary so what's really happening on that line of energy? Sea level and ground level flattens the curve...think about it. Next time you are flying ask the pilot if the world is flat! No pilots exist that have had a globe conversion simulations. Latitude and longitude and altitude no measurements for curvature. Use own senses its LEVEL

Sorry but scientifically you are not at the "center" of the Earth that would be at the center of the corebetween the poles. Here you are at the midpoint on the surface between the two poles and two hemisphere, north and south. If you were at the center of the eath you'd be a compressed diamond alnog with some other minerals which would float to the surface of the molten core at the bottom of the mantle.
@HummingbirdSpot
@HummingbirdSpot 3 года назад
Yeah, that's why I put "middle" of the earth on the title. I realized what I said in the video, but I can't go back there to rerecord it, haha.
