The Little Drummer Boy is a reference from a Christmas song. Al is always comparing Marcy to a little boy as a means of insulting her. Cindy Crawford was a famous super model.

The actor is Ed O'Neill. His character on "Married With Children" was Al Bundy. That show ran for 11 seasons. And yes, he was also on "Modern Family." And had many other film and TV roles, both comedic and serious. He also holds a Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and after college he had a tryout with the Pittsburgh Steelers (NFL). In Married With Children, the running gags included squabbles and insults within his family, but they stood up for each other when picked on by anyone from the outside. Peg (redhead) is his wife, whom he more or less takes for granted. Marcy is just a neighbor lady that he has a running insult feud with. He typically characterizes her as either a little boy or a chicken. (In that last bit, he tells her to get feather-removing electrolysis and also a "beak job" as opposed to a nose job.) And she insults him back. The actress playing Marcy wrote many of the insults that Al used against her. The two of them didn't get along well in real life either, but they made a good living from the show. In his job at the shoe store, he deals with a lot of overweight women. Some of them, in denial about their weight, ask for a shoe size that's too small. (You see one example of that here.) Several of those "customers" were comediennes who were glad for exposure on the show, and in many cases wrote the insults that would be used on them.

O'Neill was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1969 under rookie head coach Chuck Noll but was cut in training camp, so technically, he was a pro football player, I know this because I grew up near Pittsburgh, and am a huge Steelers fan.

Al Bundy was the pride of Polk High School. Down 3 TD's, he once scored 4 Touchdowns in the championship game against Andrew Johnson High School in 1966. The winds were kind, coming out of the southeast 12mph, gusting upwards of 30 mph. Everyone in attendance was in awe at the heroics of the 18-year-old.

Al Bundy didn't just score four touchdowns in one game. Al also founded NO MA'AM (National Organization of Men Against Amazonian Masterhood) an anti-feminist group in response to Women's Bowling Night replacing the Men's and the nudie bar being turned into a Women's Coffee House.

The majority of fat women who got insulted on the show were professional comedians and some were writers on the show. I went to see 8 tapings of the show between 1988-93 because I lived a few hours drive from L.A. and even though it was a half hour sitcom it took at least 2 hours or more for them to film it, mostly because the actors would mess up or start laughing, and the fat women would laugh too. There were usually fat women in the audience who laughed hard, which did surprise me. The fat women who got insulted were often just as nasty to Al, so some of them deserved it. I can’t imagine being insulted for being fat on national television and liking it, but these women read the scripts and knew what they were getting into. If you got to be on this show even one time it was a boost to your career, so lots of people were willing to be on it.

Back in 80’s & 90’s everyone ripped on everyone else. We just had much tougher skin & also ability to laugh at ourselves. Most of the fat women wrote their own burns & no one took offense. We are all human who all have faults. Loved this show after a rough shift @ work we always knew Al had it worse. These weren’t the best jokes just simplistic one that is obvious in a short clips. Recommend the show & especially Al’s “I’m not a loser’ speech. It’ll get any man back into game of adult living.

I can't believe what they used to get away with on TV! The one you called his girlfriend was actually his next door neighbor, Marcy. His insults to her always revolved around saying that she looked like a little boy, or a chicken. Whomever made this compilation relied mostly on fat jokes (popular in the nineties) but he had much funnier insults throughout the show. This is not the collection I personally would have made. The entire family was just as bad as Al (played by Ed O'Neil): The redhead was his wife Peggy, played by Katey Sagal. She's done a lot of work in Hollywood but is best known for her roles in Futurama. His son was Bud (what we'd call an Incel today and a serious pervert), played by David Faustino. And his daughter was Kelly (who really, really, really liked boys and dressed in as little as possible). She was played by Christina Appelgate who you may or may not know. She's done modeling, acting, everything from Hollywood A-List films to -- I'm not joking here -- Prenatal Pole Dancing. But it's still funny.😁 And yes, these clips are from many episodes, not just one. Funnily enough, I've used the "With every bullet so far" joke myself so often in my life that I'd forgotten where it came from. Thank you so much for this nostalgic trip back to when I was a teen!

To help a little; "Beak job" refers to getting a nose job. "Cindi Crawford" was a hugely successful model. The girl you refer to that sang "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun", was Cindi Lauper. "Feather removing electrolysis" referred to the fact that he always likened Marci to a chicken. He also likened her to a boy with short hair, and thus "Little Drummer Boy, which comes from a young boy who plays his drum for Jesus on an animated Christmas show. These clips come from numerous shows. People tuned in to hear his insults, as they were very funny (and true!). The show was highly successful. In today's world, this show wouldn't happen, due to a lot of over sensitive and nutty people.

@@Chrisb.reacts Married with children is was an American sitcom that ran from 1987 to 1997. It was recorded in front of a real live studio audience, that's not laugh track, it's real people watching as it's being recorded. So, the laughing, clapping, and shouting you hear are real people's responses, live to the jokes and insults. Al is married with children. He hates his life, his wife, his kids, and his job. His vehicle is an old dodge car, always breaks down. They are poor. Always 1 step from losing the house, their phones, electric, etc get cut off Al always talks about his glory days in high school when he was a football player and was gonna go pro until he had an injury that ended that dream. So, he's pretty bitter and doesn't give a damn what anyone thinks about it. So, he just says it like it is in his opinion and if you're offended. Go cry elsewhere, he doesn't care. lol The deal with the big women. Al is a shoes salesman and nearly every day a lot of big women come in. He insults them and they run off "crying". All Al wants is a beautiful woman to come into the shoe store and want him. He whines to his wife all the time about the big women. The reality is those women were comedians, not famous but still comedians. They wrote the jokes for the scenes they were in. So, yea it was pretty much a running gag for large women to be on the show simply existing and then get insulted by Al. The Lttle Drummer Boy is a Christmas song here in the u.s. Marcy looks like a boy because she isn't even medium-chested. She looks like she has no breasts and Al insults her by always calling her a chicken and referring to her as a little boy. A "lid" is a removable cover used for many things in the U.S. A main example is a cookie jar and there's a lid. That covers the jar. Marcy was calling him brainless. Yes, Genie is the blue guy from Aladin. Al was saying that he wouldn't touch her feet even if a magical genie popped out to grant him wishes. Jenny Craig was a weight loss company in the u.s, when this show was popular. Women went and paid ridiculous prices to buy the food and it tasted like crap. Slim fast is a weight loss protein meal replacement shake. There are other brands and they work very well as real meal replacements and are good for elderly people that have trouble with solid foods. However, back then it was marketed as a weight loss shake. In the 80's and 90's there was a tv show called Home Inprovemnt, it was another sitcom. Marcy looks like their oldest son who was around 12. He again was calling her a little boy. Hagen Das is an ice cream company. Miller boy. He is again calling Marcy a boy. Also, Miller is a beer company out here. The neighbor asking Al what he had for dinner. They are mocking the fact that his wife is a stay-at-home wife/mom that does and will not cook. Not unless it benefits her. The "I smell foul" speaker, is Al's mother in law. Pumps are very low, high heels. Like 1-2 inches. Eggnog, historically also known as a milk punch or an egg milk punch when alcoholic beverages are added, is a rich, chilled, sweetened, dairy-based beverage. It is traditionally made with milk, cream, sugar, egg yolks, and whipped egg whites. The lady he is talking to about the list, that's Marcy his neighbor. That's who he is always calling a chicken and little boy. Feather removing electrolisis. He is always calling her a chicken. The same with beak job. Back when its show was on tv, no one was offended. We thnk that is funny. The show uses a lot of American references. Famous people, places, other tv shows, products sold here, etc. I hope this helps you get a lot more of the jokes as well as a lot of insight into the show.
@alricaneshama
@alricaneshama 6 дней назад
Also, Al's wife (the red head) she's lazy, constantly insults him, puts him down. Gets the kids to mock him. Everyone mocks him. So, he's an angry bitter man that just doesn't care. The actor who played Al, is Ed O'Neill and yes he was on modern family.
@alricaneshama

The biggest running joke was the fact he was a terrible shoe salesman and no one could out how he could afford the house, two greedy kids, and a lazy, gold-digging, greedy, unemployed wife. Everyone that grew up watching this wasn't offended (as I mentioned before) but through Al, we learned to make fun of life. It also had a lot of reliability to the poor people struggling every day. Whereas most other tv shows, the family was always middle class or rich.

Ed's character of Al Bundy is an everyday man's man, and was a very relatable and much loved memory of growing up during the wonderful time that the show aired. Modern Family was a great show, with much more nuanced, intelligent humor, as well as many side-splitting situations. I always hated Married with… because it was just a barrage of one cheap insult after another, (many that hit endlessly on the same 2 or 3 ideas), that got old quick.
@krl97a
@krl97a 3 дня назад
@vespista1971 Married With Children's charm was uniquely lacking constraints that plague the rest of tv, including the PC, not as subtle or funny as the writers thought Modern Family, and had numerous recurring themes they'd execute jokes on in various ways. Its unpretentious tone stems from the creators intentionally making a show catering to working class people. It was like insurgents seized a little piece of Hollywood. This rarity, combined with almost over the top stage style acting and hilarious writing, pulled people into investing in the characters. The famous interactive studio audience developed organically to the showrunners' surprise, with different characters having different cheering sections. I appreciate subtlety (King of the Hill is a brilliant example of subtle humor and one of my favorite shows) but Married With Children was and remains a breath of fresh air.

Married with Children was a very popular comedy in the 1980s. It's style of comedy was trashy and off colored. It was the last of experimental comedies that started in the 1970s. On American television shows, beginning in the late 1960s, shows presented themes that was very daring. It reflected the political and social climate of the time in the U.S. From the late 1960s to the 1980s, taboo subjects were always a central feature. Many of the shows had very good writers who knew how to make taboo and daring subjects acceptable. To my surprise, even though many T.V shows in the U.S are uninteresting, there still are good writers of comedy and drama who still present taboo and daring subjects. I think you would like them.

Al Bundy is played by Ed O'Neil. He is from my hometown of Youngstown Ohio. He is actually a very nice man. He was a really good football player (American style). He was good enough to have a try out with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Yes he was on Modern family.

Some of this was edited like the genie. It actually went this way: PEG: Al come over here and rub my tush AL: Peg, I wouldn't rub your tush even if Robin Williams popped out dressed like a genie.

This was my favorite show back in the 80's and 90's. Even back then people were offended by it. A lot of the jokes you won't get because of the slang and strickly American references.

There are a lot of movies and TV shows that could not be made today because of people being "triggered" or getting their feelings hurt. Almost every show and movie you see is scripted, very little is done spontaneously. There are exceptions like Robin Williams who ad libbed almost all of Aladdin and the cartoonists created the characters to match what he was saying.

Yes, especially German Chocolate. Not for breakfast anymore, a lot of us would partake of it forever. I believe only the Swiss have higher quality Chocolate, and it shows in the cost of it here in the USA. Really fine and silky texture.

Some of these jokes rely on an ongoing understanding of the relationship between characters. If you were watching the show in real time you’d get it. Others are just universal. 😂

Hey Chris, the character of al bundy is a man that peaked in high school, to our euro friends probably known as secondary school in many cases who married a we'll say the school trollop right after school and is working a job selling women's shoes trying to support his terrible family on that meager income, it is a reflection of american blue collar culture at the time as there was a bit of a culture war between the "have" and "have not" classes in the 1980s and 90s, it's a sit com about the "peaked in high school" types and how their lives turned out

Isn't it funny how Ed O'Neill's characters in Married With Children and Modern Family are similar yet very different? Al Bundy and Jay Pritchett are both hard working guys with smoking hot wives and dysfunctional families, but Jay is the guy that Al wishes he could be (besides the football player part). Jay is a successful small business owner, not rich but comfortably wealthy, his second wife is an upgrade (Peggy from MWC is gorgeous but Al still resents her), his kids aren't disrespectful, his house is really nice. When MF ended I wanted Ed to make a cameo appearance as Al, along with Katey Sagal playing Peggy, and do something clever to show the difference between them

Everything you need to appreciate Al Bundy can found by searching for the phrase, "A fat woman came into the shoe store, today, Peg." Extra points if you find a video with the quote, "My eggs, my eggs, swim to me my eggs." The chicken references are jokes about the neighbor woman's breasts, the same one who occasionally gets referred to as a boy for the same reason.

Drummer boy in America historically was the kid they gave the drum in the civil war to keep playing and give orders with the snare he carried into battle. But he was a kid and a annoying cute little s🤬t. Many jokes came from this.
