Well, guys you did not validate the ticket. You would be fined anywhere in the world with that. I was fined in Germany and paid 60 EUR because the control people claimed that I punched the ticket in a wrong way, and they were rude like hell. In Prague they fined me for crossing the street at a wrong spot. Things like that happen in big cities. It is a little bit spoiled from your side that you gave this so much significance, when it was obviously your fault. Plus the fine in Budapest is very low, less than 25 EUR. Sorry for your bad experience, but I lived in Hungary and I was fined several times as well, but that life. You can't pass there without punching the ticket.

If you dont validate the ticket you can use it again because its universal not ride specific. A lot of people tryed have free rides this way and only when they were caught said they forgot. So they are very strict about that. Turists has this mistake many times but the staff Usually More forgiving tovards turists. You got a strict one

They do the same with Hungarian citizens and should continue to do so. These are the guidelines to follow. In this procedure, there is no such thing as a "target." I will check the rules and regulations before using public transportation in a foreign country. I'm sorry for your bad luck, but blaming the inspectors and accusing them of targeting seems a little naive. The fee amount can be contested, but that does not change the rules. Last month, I visited Prague, where you must validate your ticket in the same manner before using it, and the penalty is even higher.
@dcikaruga
@dcikaruga 2 года назад
@@zajecx I didn't argue with them, but in some countries they're more lenient, like they know your a tourist and just tell you how to do it properly and say they'll fine you if they see catch you again.
@kataszamel4525
@kataszamel4525 2 года назад
@@dcikaruga Hey, I think it would be nice if they could do that, and I'm all about being kind, but as a Hungarian, I can understand them. First of all, lots of locals try to get away without paying and pretending to be tourists or not speaking Hungarian. Second, lots of tourists feel entitled to not pay because they can escape easily and they leave the country in a few days anyway (I'm not talking about Sarah and Marek, just in general). Third, they don't let you validate your ticket if you forgot, because then people would just travel with one unvalidated ticket until they meet a conductor in a few days and validate it then, thus not paying for multiple rides (I know because I did that before on trams, I'm not always perfect either). Forth, BKK is operated buy the state and it's not a profitable business, so if they let people not pay for it, it would be even harder to keep it going. Fifth, and this is the saddest thing, conductors don't want to loose their jobs, they are afraid that someone will report them or that the person they let go is a tester and their employer will hear about it. All in all, I know that it sucks, especially when you didn't do it on purpose, but in the big picture it just wouldn't make sense to make exceptions because then where do you draw the line?

When I was young I traveled the world. I've never been south of the Sahara in Africa but it is a place I'd like to go. My father visited South Africa for work and he loved it there. Luckily he had a week to travel on his own so of course he went on a Safari. His photos looked a little touristy but also very exciting. I would have been delighted to have joined him. But during my own travels I experienced so much. And one of the things that I learned was how to take shortcuts in order to do certain common things the proper and most effective way. The best shortcut in my opinion is to observe how the local people do things so you don't have to reinvent the wheel every time you face something new. For instance, you both were struggling with how to cut and eat that delicious looking Lángos. You tried cutting it with that insufficient plastic utensil set. You tried gouging it with that rubbery fork. You really struggled, basically attempting to invent your own way to gracefully slice and eat your Lángos. But did you notice that all around you were local Hungarians eating their own Lángos the way they had been taught to eat it since they were young. In other words, eating it "the right way" - by picking it up like a sandwich and taking a big bite out of it. I could see them doing it. They were right behind you. It's on the video, and you didn't catch it in time to eat it that way yourselves. I was crawling out of my skin as you still kept on trying to cut the thing. And all that I could think was "you two are better travelers than that. Look around you and imitate. Look around you and reflect." If you had seen them, and reflected them, both of you would have been quickly munching down on your tasty Lángos just like a local does it. Your Magyar aunties would have been so proud. You are both delightful to watch and I look forward to seeing more videos. Thanks indulging me. I'm a talker, but I'm also a big fan. I hope that some of what I said helps you during a future fork conundrum. Yours sincerely,. Me.
@SarahandMarek
@SarahandMarek 2 года назад
This is really good advice and we definitely should have taken a look around to see how the locals were eating, it would have saved us the struggle of cutting the Langos 😅 Thanks so much Eric, we will use this trick in future and we're sure it will save us some trouble 😄🙌🏼

Hey, this is how the system works: they take your data and give you a check with a fine that you have to pay at the post office. Or you can pay right there, it costs a little less. (Anyway, and this is a loophole, officially the conductors cannot make you wait for the police if you don't give them your data, but I wouldn'trisk it.)

@kataszamel4525
@kataszamel4525 2 года назад
Hey, Hungarian here, let me help! :) So in Budapest you can use the same kind of tickets for all the public transportation: metro, trams, buses, trolli, etc.. You can buy like 10 of them and you have to validate one when you get on one of the public transportations. (Or you can buy monthly or daily cards and you don't have to validate those, I would suggest that for tourists.) The single tickets are only for one time traveling and you have to validate them when you want to use them. It's good for people who do not need a daily or monthly card because f.e. they only need the bus once, otherwise they go by car or whatever. I actually think that it's a good system, you can choose from multiple options, you can find information about it in English, it's just a quick research.

I just can't imagine beying from country where people don't understand why time ticket has to be validated, it happens all the time with Americans, I just don't understand it. They really don't use public transportation at all in their home land? Because buy time ticket and validate it when you want to use it is how almost all public systems work, at least in Europe, but I don't really know how differently it could work. Yes, in the past, there was for example system that there was conductor and you had to pay some coin and then you could enter tram/metro/bus, but it's 21st century, it just can't work like that today, you have itegrated whole transportation system to one system with shared tickets, insert coin to barrier or to conductor in tram all the time would be ridiculous and annoying. I know it works like that somewhere in Ukraine or Africa, but you can't really expect such system in EU country, we don't even have enough workers for such system, that's why you meet ticket check only few times in month, this system is much cheaper than conductors in every tram or bus. The best thing is just use brain, when you buy ticket from village bus driver and you are literally in that bus, it's obviouse that you don't have to validate that, same like ticket from conductor in train or for tickets from place A to place B. But when you have time ticket and you can buy more of them, obviously, it has to be validated, just think about that please, it can't work differently. :-D Another thing which I don't really get is, you are saying how 20 eur is a lot of money, is it really a lot of money for English speaking tourist? I am just worker from Czech Republic and 20 eur is nothing for me, that's one visit in grocery store when you need something to eat for like 2 days, I see it in many videos from different countries, English speaking tourists care about few eur fine, omg. :-D
@P.B0209
@P.B0209 2 года назад
This is not entirely true. They bought the tickets, which they showed to the inspector. A normal inspector would have asked them to validate it afterwards, but the inspector saw that they were tourists and wanted to get money out of their pockets. It was a bastard.
@Pidalin
@Pidalin 2 года назад
@@P.B0209 Ofcourse, that would be nice from ticket inspector, but that's not their job. Imagine work like ticket inspector, you are meeting dozens of such tourists every day, you just can't send all of them to validator when they are already traveling half of the day on non validated 30 minutes ticket. This happens all the time and many of tourists are arguing with them which doesn't help. If they catched them directly down there in metro in station where they bought ticked than send them validate it would be ok I think, but if you catch them somewhere on exit, you can't know how long they've been traveling on that ticket.
@P.B0209
@P.B0209 2 года назад
@@Pidalin Ok this is logical, but it's ridiculous that the ticket is 300 Forints and the penalty is 8000... That's a joke. We need to build a better system.
@Pidalin
@Pidalin 2 года назад
@@P.B0209 I agree, it's ridiculous, penalty should be much higher. In Prague you pay 800 CZK (30 eur) when you pay it immediately and probability that you meet ticket check is low so many people just don't buy tickets and pay penalty time to time, if penalty in Budapest is 20 eur, then it's not worthy at all buying tickets. But if you mean like you need some barriers or something than no, no barriers and ticket check time to time is the best system you can have, if there are barriers or you have to always buy extra ticket or validate some one ride all the time in every vehicle, then people switch to cars because using of public transport won't be comfortable anymore. Like it is in most of western countries, when barrier doors hit your backpack for 10 times in one day, then you need really good self-control to not destroy that, our system is just better. We had barriers in metro in the past and they removed it becuase it didn't work, people were just jumping over and not paying.

@@Pidalin You sound like a really nasty person. Very aggressively talking down on two tourists who made a honest mistake . They tell you at the start they are on a budget but you act like all people should have xy amount of money. Just because the ticket inspector has a job they have to do they don't have to be an asshole about it. And let me tell you from personal experience as a Hungarian, that ticket inspectors here literally PRAY on tourists who might no know the rules. I have been stopped multiple times for inspections when i was talking English with exchange student friends. But never when i was talking Hungarian. And 99% of Hungarians would tell you without a fault that those who actually cheat on tickets are the locals not the tourists who are scared of fines in a foreign country. So the whole argument is just bullshit. Don't believe me? There is a fking movie (comedy/thriller) called " Kontroll " that was made on the joke /truth how Hungarian passengers evade tickets and fines in the metro lines and how they disrespect the ticket inspectors. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LMkkJbRJdiA.html Btw promoting more harsher penalties don't actually solve the problem of people cheating tickets. It just creates more elaborate and pro evaders.

I don't understand why it is co hard to understand it for Americans or Australians, this is how 99% of transport systems on Earth work.
