I couldn't believe my ears when I first heard this. Unlike most national anthems which sound pompous and aggressive this Hungarian anthem touches one's soul deeply regardless of nationality. Hungarians are blessed to have such a beautiful anthem. Love from Korea.

Your comment is 2 years old, but I suggest you reading the whole anthem, the first stanza is good too, but the others are great too, especially the sad ones (may fav is one of the last). It's very depressive, a real poem from one of the greatest Hungarian poet, it's title was Anthem too. The music is from a great Hunagarian composer, Erkel. I think the text is much deeper than other anthems'.

Not only from Austro-Hungarian empire, Transylvania constantly received Hungarian influence since 1003, since it became part of the Hungarian Kingdom (not part of Hungary though, it remained semi-autonomous but the Hungarian king appointed the leaders of Transylvania). In my opinion Transylvania should be a sovereign country given its history, culture and ethnic makeup, and it could have become in the 19th century but the Hungarians fucked it up. The Hungarians wanted to dominate, to oppress and to assimilate. they wanted to magyarize there everyone. I am Hungarian but I don't like the Hungarian nationalism. Hungary could be a much better country if the leadership finally cleared up their history. Because since the 19th century they believe in a fabricated history. Transylvania might have been under Hungarian control for centuries, but it has always had Romanian majority regarding the population. This is the truth and the official Hungarian history does not want to admit that. Only this bothers me about Hungary, and the over-romanticising of the disgusting chauvinism during the 19th century and first part of 20th century.
Transylvania is good because it's Transylvania. It's good because that's where people have been mixing with each other for thousands of years. And it's just fascinating because of it. It is wonderful. As a Hungarian, I have also been there and it's really amazing. It also feels like a whole new world to me. Transylvania/Erdély/Ardeal is the hidden diamond of Europe that's for sure

There is no hate between avarage Romanians and Hungarians, only football hooligans, and some uneducated idiots. What happened, happened. While it is sad, it wasnt your fault that your government decided to quickly abandon the axis side in WW2 and "betray" us, it was your governments fault, yet people seem to think that if the government is bad, then the people of the country must be bad too. I have several Romanian friends as I work in England and none of them hold grudge against me, and nor I am. :)

Simon Anita Most Croatian think Hungarians are our best neighbours. You Hungarians helped our fathers in time of aggression on our home and that we will never forget. I never hear someone say something bad about Hungarians maybe about history ( you rule our country in 12 century but you leave our culture and give us sabor and ban ). The Magyars have an amazing history and culture. They have preserved their unique language for over 1000 years in the middle of Europe. I hope that Hungary and its neighbors can overcome the old rivalries and rise to greatness once again!

Well, Andrea, I am Dutch and I am somebody who is interest in politics and I appreciate your governments intention to defend Hungary's independance/ I am ''politically incorrect'', because I always voto for the largest oppositiion party of the Netherlands, Mr Geert Wilders Freedom Party Avtually he supports Mr Orban's ideas. I do not trust EU anymore, since it is turning into a kind of dictatorial superstate, a kind of EUSSR. I do not want my country to give up its right to choose its own destiny in life. I am proud of my country and I am not prepared others to rule overr us. When I heard your fascinating anthem I recognized the same attitude that I have: I want my country to keep its own character. I understand your position and feeliongs perfectly, Hollósi, since my country finds itself in a similar position: the EU wants to wipe out the identity and culture of every nation that is part of the EU. The only remedy against that is knowing your history, treasure the richness of your cutlure and LOVE your country and be proud of it. You DO have one important advantage over us: your country knows exavtly the importance of the things I just wrote down and acts on that! So they have my undivided sympathy. Patriotism is GOOD and I myself am a Dutch patrot; Our countries are not meant to thrown onto a rubbish heap! We are just too goopd for that. I suipport the biggest political party (in the polls that is) in the Netherlands: the Duch Freedom Party of Mr Wilders. More and more people are beginning to see that the EU does not have our best interests at heart.So we opppose this EU. You see your country is not standing alone in this:-)

It is so interesting that most greetings either come from people who are historical Hungarian-friends or from people who are historical Hungary-enemies. Love and Hate are really very close to each other :-) Myself I do not give a shit about nationality, the only thing that bothering me is that Hungary has got a fake history. I am Hungarian but I have found out by myself that the Romanians got the history right. I really hate those Hungarians who hate any folks surrounding us just because of history and territory. Chauvinistic, big-headed people are the most stupid among all.
