Yes, I mean I was the Cincinnati Zoo not long ago and those things are huge even as baby hippos, so no way a fully grown hippo is unnoticed in a shallow creek as you said.

Asian rhinos only have one horn, and it’s a bit smaller than than some other species of rhinoceros. They are also very strong. One of the species is the “great-one-horned rhino”, which is the largest type of rhino in the world. The second largest species is the white rhino, which are significantly larger than a black rhino. Their horns tend to be thicker than a black rhino’s and they appear very bulky compared to some other species of rhinos. These are normally the rhinos that you will see in a zoo, but they are one of the most endangered animals in the world. Unlike a black rhino, their upper lip is square. Their horns can be in a lot of bizarre positions compared to that of a black rhino. What we see here is a hippopotamus. There are two species of hippos. The pygmy hippo (which is dog-sized) and the more common, large one (which we see here). Little known fact, hippos are actually more closely related to dolphins, whales and horses than anything else.
