Hunt and Play is a short documentary about a traditional hunting party and about the role of playing in the process of growing from a boy into a man. Set in the savannah of Northern Ghana, the camera follows a group of men who use throwing sticks to hunt for rabbits. After two hours, not even one rabbit has been caught and the film maker, slightly dissapointed, leaves the expedition. On the way back, he meets six boys who are having their own hunting party...

It's amazing how free and contended these guys are compared to some rich guys out there who can't boast of any kind of relationship, who live in high fenced houses and do not know what's happening to the man next door. Lost all sence of neighbourliness in the name of civility. These young guys feel no fear, no hate. Thumbs up for the man who took time to share this. Thnks

SEGUN SEGBENU Thank you for your nice comment. I am very happy that the message I had with this short doc reached you 100 percent. At the same time it's interesting to see some of the different reactions of people who don't see 'happy children, playing out in the fields' (like we do) but rather think a video like this ridicules people in rural Africa. You might also like this video about a traditional way of feeding poultry [ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-D9VSkQstKX4.html]

I was very careful with my words and I am sure those who read without prejudice or bias understood the MEANING of "some" as in (... compared to SOME rich guys...) for the records I lived and worked with many rich people. I know many who understand the essence of life and the part their wealth should play in the life of the less privileged. I also know some who care less as long as they are safe in high fences and I know a few who will pretend for a minute not to understand the meaning of "some" because they are blinded by either hate, discrimination or sentiments. But all the same, your point is well taken. I will remember that. THANKS

After my comment I read the tags and realized the video was shot in Upper West region and it's Dagaare they are speaking. I've only been to Wa as child and that was in the 1980's when my dad worked as a bank manger there. It's a nice video and I must commend you for putting it up, and also for being able to tolerate the harsh weather in northern Ghana. Good work

The major societal changes produce more surprises of winners and losers than in the past, in which people's paths were more set.

These people should be educated about the negative impact of such hunting which causes the extinction of wild animals in the area. The impact will be visible in ten-fifteen years time. They should be thought about living with animals as part of the nature. The perception about 'manhood' should be changed. May I ask you Kees what is the purpose of your being there? If you are working with this community, you should may be engage in creating awareness on this issue. They really need to know the importance of wild-life. I appreciate your effort for letting the world know what is going there.
