"Now you know I don't like you..but I like to think we have this mutual grudging respect thing going on. So please do not take this ass beating I am about to lay down on you as personally."
That's probably because the developers decided to spread the sequels in different consoles instead of releasing them either for all of them, or in just one. This is the sequel to wayward and the original but it's only on Xbox, even though Wayward is only on PS2.
Jiggle physics? Welp, this is automatically the best game in the series, I don't make the rules. Also, this series could definitely use an HD Remaster trilogy pack for PS4/Switch/XBOX ONE, because "upper-mid" tier titles have been making a comeback, especially on Switch, I think this could garner a whole new audience
Guys, you want these games remastered and maybe physical copies too? Who's got social media? I think, Nightdive Studios, might be a great candidate. They did a great job bringing back Turok 1 and 2.
Avalanche Reviews hey dude if you are seeing this comment i just want to ask you to look at this new game called Daymare 1998 its like RE 2 but but before it and i just want to tell you to check it out
Smitty Werbenjagermanjensen Smitty Werbenjagermanjensen I can hear it now “after a few successful releases, the feeling of being imbued has came to its conclusion, a loose veritably in which we can come and enjoy time and time again, with that said, this is Jared with avalanche reviews. Please come back next time when we will be discussing your mouth, a noble hole with a bit more firmness than the last.
I didn't remember kaylie's jiggles but then again it was a loooooong time ago I played. This was definitely my favorite in the series, especially the change of look and outfits to all the hunters, especially my girl the martyr. My favorite boss was the evil 🎅
Avalanche Reviews here’s a few things you should know before getting into it. It’s a remake of an arcade game from the 1980’s , made by the same company that made Pac-man. It’s extremely violent, that it makes Mortal Kombat look like child’s play. Rick Taylor ( the game’s protagonist) is voiced by Josh Keaton ( Spider-Man) . And the best character in the game , the terror mask is voiced by Winnie the Pooh ( seriously Jim Cummings is the best part of this game)
I'm glad that we're starting to see more World of Darkness games starting with Bloodlines 2, and hopefully eventually the Werewolf game from Cyanide. But I'm very sad that we never got any Chronicles of Darkness games between 2004 and now.
I really miss budget titles those are some of my favorite games from back in the day a lot of studios died because they quit making budget titles to make big budget triple A games and a lot of those triple A games ain't worth a shit half the time
'i never got to play because i hated xbox" this is why you dont play fanboy, play games, not consoles. glad you enjoyed it, i hope to find a copy of this game one day or it eventually goes backwards compatible on XB1 like the original/
Looks like I know what series to add to my "Cold Comforts" playlist this winter (I mean, c'mon, a Demonic Santa? That has to be at least in the top 3).
This series retrospective really took me back. I had played all three while growing up, though it was over a span of a decade instead of alongside releases. The first game I had to play at a friend's house and I was all about Martyr's speed keeping me out of trouble. Once I had a copy of Wayward I was mostly playing solo and found myself playing Judge almost exclusively, though I toyed with the Wayward guy a bit. When I finally got an Xbox, I played Redeemer for a few weeks on end. The new leveling system, character redesigns, and general improvements really made me want to grind every creed while leaving my PS3 to collect dust for the first time since it launched. Games like these helped keep me interested in exploring more niche, lower budget classics, and it was a joy seeing them again with a quality upscale instead of simple stretching or emulation. I don't have the income to spend on hardware upscalers, myself, so the latter is basically the only way I'd ever see them again.
For a newcomer, yeah this would be the most playable game in the series. That being said, the other games kind of set up the blueprints for this stuff.
Seeing someone RECENTLY cover this series is just hands down awesome. I was so afraid it had been long forgotten and I was the only one who remembered it. When i seen you covered this it was an INSTANT sub for me man, I LOVE these games, they totally were a part of my childhood. That being said, i never actually got to play Redeemer at all. Avalanche, if you see this, could you tell me if this video is spoiler free? I like your coverage of these games, and I want to watch this, but as I mentioned, ive never played Redeemer.
None of the World of Darkness video games ever really got into the subject of the werewolves in any depth. The hook with WoD's Werewolves was that they were basically eco-terrorists. They were fighting against the Pentax corporation, which was run by people who'd been possessed by evil spirits (servants of a force called The Wyrm.) There was also a werewolf tribe, the Black Spiral Dancers, who'd been corrupted by The Wyrm, and actively worked to aid Pentax. Ironically, the werewolves were one of the better twists that the original World of Darkness had going for it. Most of the creatures in the setting were, basically, what you'd expect, but, the werewolves were trying to save the planet from mass extinction.
more or less hard to find games just as the themes like Hunter and 3rd person/top down couch co-op and Multiplayer experience, more or less an email to maybe High Voltage to see if they are willing or keen to do a good port over to the now platforms we have availible to just relive those glory and golden days of this GEM we experienced 20 or so years ago! would LOVE to see at least the whole Hunter series on such platform as like Steam or Epic games as such or anything else like it, with of course proper controller support and multiplayer connection if thats even possible with Hunter: The Reckoining, but alas a dream.
Hey! Just stumbled upon your videos about HTR series of games. Currently, collecting for the OG Xbox, can't believe I never had these games back in the day and managed to pick up both titles for the Xbox. Currently, playing the 1st title and enjoying it so much. Thanks for the videos. Keep up the great work. You have a subscriber!
I went through this series much like yourself. I had the Gamecube version of the first game and loved it, loved the second game even more, and I actually did get Redeemer not too long after it came out, but never actually got around to playing it. I still have it, so I'll give it a shot sometime thanks to your recommendation. Thanks for making these videos, I felt like I was the only person who knew what the hell this series was.
If only either Hunter game worked in XEMU properly. To my knowledge, no one has ever gotten sound effects working properly in XEMU. Almost all the sounds are clipped and you can only hear the environmental backtrack and music. I've heard CXBX might work, but I haven't gotten to try it yet.
This retrospective was fantastic. It shined a light on a franchise that I have never heard of before and now am interested in. Hell I'm even thinking of maybe checking out the pen and paper it's all based on! Can't wait to see what you do next!!
Man, I love World of Darkness and never knew these existed. Thanks to your videos I have played Wayward and now eagerly await the first, third, and Game Book plopping through the letterbox. My wallet hates you but my soul loves you! LOL
Another retrospective in da pocket! Really loving this series of videos, you give a much needed place to titles that are true relics of their time, and give a honest, well formulated opinion that only a man dedicated to his craft can deliver. I salute your efforts attractive buff thicc ass-boi.
These games where fucking awesome, i remember getting together with 3 friends and playing on the hardest difficulty and man was it fucking hard, now thanks to you whe are gonna have to do it again, ebay here we go.
i found these videos as a result of dusting the games off for a nostalgic playthrough during the C-19 lockdown. man, i loved these. with skyrim mod communities redoing the previous games in the skyrim engine, i would love for someone to do the same (rework the original Hunter game using the Redeemer mechanics & graphics). i know that won't happen. BUUUUT, maybe someone could take the new Fallout (with all it's possible mod reworkings & gameplay mechanic overhauls, and recreate the Hunter world. can you imagine imagine?
Never realized there were 3 entries in this series. I played and rather enjoyed a demo for the PS2 _Wayward_ but never picked up a copy. Quite frankly, it's not a title that I think I saw very often, if ever, when browsing used games. Never owned an Xbox, but I've been thinking about trying to pick up some of the exclusive stuff that has been over on Microsoft's consoles over the years and this one certainly looks and sounds like the best in the series, as one might expect but isn't always the case.
good job with the review, i only got to play Way Word, i wanted to Redeemer but my Hollywood Video only had the box and never the game and my Blockbuster never had any of the games, now i wish they would re release this on Steam since Steam is great platform for older games and since i don't have my PS2 , Original X-Box and Gamecube anymore since they got stolen years ago
This video made me wonder if you ever tried out the Secret World and what you thought about it. Since that too is about supernatural stuff in a contemporary style world.
I've had this trilogy for a while, picked em up in bargain bins and messed with them a little. They just felt like cheap/janky Champions of Norrath clones to me at the time.. but hearing you talk about them has convinced me I need to give them a second look.
But yeah this last one was an interesting end for the story (Especially for the character I've played in EVERY Entry, "The Judge", felt the end for him was fitting and badass). Plus honestly while FF2 style of "using stuff enough to level it" is interesting. I prefer classic leveling up (would prefer if the stuff you use the most gets a huge boost to what you don't, but the others aren't completely worthless when you need them as they still level, just not at the speed what you use the most does!). But I will agree, at least you're encouraged to change up your tactics to make sure nothing is lagging! Plus Redeemer is the best because it feels more balanced for Solo Play, compared to the First which was balanced for a FULL FOUR PLAYER PARTY (Solo play was HELL LOL Still beat it solo as Judge, but still, HELL!), and Wayward two player only may have decreased the player count, but balanced Solo play (Till you get that Final Boss). It's always the last in a trilogy that gets the best balancing before they deem the series dead or don't continue....shame (lucky it's happening LESS, and at least this one GOT it's Third Entry, RIP Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance 3.....and that "Dark Alliance" now is NOT a DA game, It's a Drizzt game that's WAY TO FUCKING LATE for it to appear, the age of Drizzt's mass popularity isn't as big as it was back then that me as a Fan of him took a bit to realize it was HIS game, and it's clear they only LOOSELY looked at the books and character's but again These's Always ON Multiplayer cash grabs rarely care about making the game work, why would the game story be anywhere near decent)
for some reason I walways thought Redeemer was the second game and Wayward was the third title. I dont know why, but I had some weird headcanon that Wayward took place after Redeemer and featured haylie as the new Judge.
so unless i dig up the original xbox theres no way i can play this game and hunter the reckoning? this was one of the first games i played that was 'naughty' when i was little, and i was obsessed with Kaylie i wanted to be like her so bad lol.
I mentioned that I found Reckoning on your Reckoning review. So happens I have this also. Guess I'm going to have to ask the wife to dust off the xbox controller and play some co op.
Its a shame HVS cancelled The Grinder, as apparently the 360/PS3 versions would have played similar to the Hunter games. Nevermind! Another great retrospective under your belt Jared? What do you think you'll cover next?
My internet knowledge may be faulty but is it true that Xavier Lucien is a hunter possessed by a fallen? Which is one of the late, core playable characters of the old world of darkness rpg's? I would love to play that table top rpg game but I'm not sure if it is even popular anymore nor would I know where to lfg. Let alone a group to welcome someone like me without experience.. Oh well, I love the video anyway!
If you enjoy this universe I highly recommend you hop on Steam and pick up Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines. It's set in the same universe (the so-called World of Darkness) but you play as a newly turned vampire. It's sort of like a Bethesda-style western rpg. P.S. don't play as a Nosferatu your first time.
Love the games and I think they stopped it at a good point. I mean, besides a remake, I don’t know where worse you could take the story in a serious way
I would honestly settle for new characters, gameplay improvements, and a location. That way they could start fresh and maybe pull from a different monster to use as the big bad or pull from other facets of WoD that weren't used or could be intriguing to try. A group of Hunters starting with what seems to be just an outbreak of monsters that turns out to be some gang war between vampires clans that seems hellbent on boiling over into their reality. I don't really know though. I always have been fascinated by WoD but I don't really know what works and what doesn't. I just have a bunch of Hunter books and love the vibe they give with the anonymous chat room and Creeds.
My problems with Wayward is just the fact that it was only 2 player and that the difficulty climbed automatically every new game+ you did and you couldn't get it back down. Two player hardest difficulty was stupid hard. In fact 2 players on the 2nd hardest difficulty was harder than 1 player on the hardest.
I really can't think of any modern western gaming company to revive this franchise. Too many like EA now pushing soulless corporate crap filled with greed baloney and made not to offend certain people. Did you hear that a new Resident Evil game is being revealed soon?
@Avalanche Reviews, I hope it is not multiplayer only. Resident Evil 2 Remake is likely going to be my game of the year for 2019. Only maybe Doom Eternal will give it competition.
I think we all know why we all play kaylie. Even tho i do say it is a bit weird making a child from the previous game be just a bit sexual designed just a bit.
I love this game and i play this when i was 8years and now im 29 so much years go ans i still love this game❤️❤️ but my xbox was broking not finish the game i feel bad and i want to see the full game I wish i can play it again on ps4 or ps5 or i go for xbox if they doing this game❤️❤️
@@AvalancheReviews Yeah , its kinda a slow burn if you look deeper into its library. Its often called the unofficial dreamcast 2 for a reason. There are some awesome gems . I especially recommend Phantom dust . Its like magic the gathering meets unreal tournament while dating with fallout. Check it out , you wont regret it.
