Exactly why i love this freaking fight, its almost poetic how accuratly describes the human race, we're the scums of earth thats why netero made sure to say im gonna wait for you in hell if there is one the way they portraited humans as the malice here, the chimera ants never had a chance from the begining
@@evanmedi6144 also the word for evolution and malice are the same in Japanese. In Mange there is a better translation for the line of Netero: "you understand nothing of the human potential for evolution". In the Manga it is: "you understand nothing of the bottemless malice within the human heart". Even with all their cruelty, the ants would never have the malice to develop a technology, capable of extinct their whole race.
Meruem felt fear, it is not because he never expected someone to blow up the Gungi board. It is because he thought he was the one manipulating the game but no. Netero was the one manipulating the situation from outside of the game. When Netero told the name, the game was already over because telling his name means Netero's defeat. I'm lost. Gungi board is already past tense in this moment. Netero said "I'm not alone" The fight was between us, You and Me. BUT what going to happen now is the fight between human and ants. Do you know what Netero really wanted to say ? I am lost and telling you your name but it doesn't mean human's lost. Here is a gift. THIS IS FROM HUMAN. If it is possible human kill Meruem which means human can kill other ants. But Killing Netero doesn't mean Ant's victory. So I don't think this line should have been on the show because this line didn't get the right point. It was actually more than the Gungi board. That is why Meruem felt fear. And you know, there was a human who flipped the board on previously episode. So Meruem can expect that.
Netero's last words actual have a double meaning if you read it in Japanese: The line is often translated as: "Do not underestimate humanity's infinite potential for evolution!". But it is also translated as: "Do not underestimate humanity's infinite potential for malice!". Humans are cruel, and capable of such monstrous acts that the Ants couldn't hope to match.
Exactly. Humans are capable of great kindness, but can also be extremely terrible. The ants can evolve quickly, but humans have evolved and learned slowly. We have perfected our cruelty. We have earned it.
The ants are mostly humans too. They were just simply eating to survive before they got human genes, but after the human genes they started to kill for fun.
@@spbspb2413 And also, Mereum says that humanity, with all their individuality, can never hope to match the Ants and that he is the culmination of all evolution. I thought that point was a moot one. He himself is already so uniquely individual. Every single one of the ants is individual; they all have their dreams, hopes, and fears. They lost their eusociality the moment Queen tasted human meat.
@@sharathsh9987 i think meruem was mostly reffering to himself as the pinnacle. He basically told netero that his entire species evolved and worked with one singular goal in mind, his birth, and that humans are too much of individuals to make thar sacrifice. Neteros retort to that was that humans evolved and worked as well with malice as their fuel and the bomb was the result of that evolution.
Meruem won the Nen battle against Netero, but was no match against the centuries of progress made by the human race (depicted as the bomb). While the one-on-one fight was won by Meruem, the chimera species were no match for the human species. Mickey was totally right on this point!
Yeah that's the whole point.. Meruem was saying how the way they reproduce made him such a stronger individual but Netero said to not underestimate humanity's infinite potential for malice technology made by not one stronger but all working together to evolve
They were a total match for the human species. Dont forget that the ants are only a few weeks old while the human race is thousands of years old. Just give the ants a few more months and the humans would have been gone.
@@ladermay7726 No, the extinction / defeat of the Ant was a forgone conclusion. If they had expanded to being a potential threat greater than what they were, humanity would have glassed the entire island and everyone on it, with no hesitation nor regret. The choice to send in the Hunters was a political one of a measured application of force., if more force was required, more would have been used until the the ant were defeated or the world destroyed.
@@pedrohenriquedasilvaroque1085 MANGA SPOILER I think Don Freecs is going to be superbly strong, and maybe even stronger than meruem, because he survived on the dark continent for 300 years
God level writing Okay I'll elaborate: - Netero's remaining limbs were the ones he did not use when playing ball with Killua and Gon in the HE arc; - When Netero previously said: "I'm not sure I can complete this mission without sacrifices", he probably was talking about himself; - Meruem fought "valiantly", Netero resorted to a "trick"; - Yes, technology defeated Meruem. That always takes me back to the good old Dragon Ball days, when the army attacked Cell before the Cell Game but were wiped out. In HxH, a Nen attack is not necessarily stronger than a bazooka (Uvogin said that the super-bazooka he tanked "stung", and he was a master Enhancer); - The kanji for "evolution" also translates to "malice" (EDIT: actually, it doesn't. As pointed out in the replies, there is a habit of pointing out different ways of reading a phrase. This phrase was "humans' bottomless malice", with "evolution" as the alternate meaning). Chimera Ants will never evolve as much as humans (thanks to our individuality), and they'll never be as evil as us. The nuke is literally the most evil thing ever created by mankind. Netero does tell he and Meruem are going to Hell, so he knows to be an evil man; - Netero is down for a good fight, that's why he kept the bomb as a last resort; - Mickey freakin' called the nuke like 50 episodes ago lol.
Humans resorted to the bomb and had Netero as the representative due to reasons (manga spoilers). If the ants and Meruem were not a human threat, Netero, as an individual, would probably be fine losing this battle of fighting and ideals. (He might get swayed, he says before)
Kanji for evolution do not translate to malice. They're not even read that way, but we have a way of adding meaning to a phrase by specifically pointing out a different way to read it. To emphasize the meaning behind it. Basically, Togashi made sure readers will understand that Netero meant both malice and evolution when he used the word evolution.
@@user-un-known thanks for the clarification. About the topic of Netero's phrase that's what you always hear/read, that it translates the same. I'll make sure not to make that mistake again :) Edit: grammar
Coz it definitely is not. Hear me first, please 1- bungee gum has properties of both robber and gum 2- oh my rubber nen🖤❤️ 3- gohn... goooooohhohohohn As you see, it is not in top 3 quotes ( this is an official list so..)
One of the best episodes of Hunter X Hunter for sure. Netero's resolve is crazy, he didn't think twice about giving his life for the future of mankind. My man's was looking mad evil at the end haha
I didn't see it that way Netero achieved his life goal by fighting Meruem the strongest creature in the world and he lost to him so he had nothing more to live for he just dragged Meruem along with , but not out of selflessness he did it because why not
@@micow9951 This is not accurate. Netero's final act is a manifestation of humanity's survival instinct, showing that humans will go to hell to allow humanity to survive. Netero is not acting selfishly, not in the way you suggest anyway. Netero actually is being selfish in that he sees killing Meruem and the ants as maintaining Human supremacy, which he is proud of and fundamentally sees himself as being a part of. He is asserting Human dominance over the ants and ensuring Human survival.
Netero fighting with a right arm and left leg in the end. Its also a callback to how he was playing the ball game in the first arc with Killua and Gon (using the same arm and leg!)
For Mickey's comment about Guanyin Bodhisattva doing nothing hear me out. Netero indeed accepted his defeat and this point was raised by Meruem himself. "I AM A KING WHO HAD A WHOLE SPECIES RAISING ME WHILE YOU ARE JUST A SINGLE HUMAN" Meaning Netero trained for decades to display his strength BUT the ants had been evolving for god knows how long with greater dedication towards the queen who in turn solely wanted to give birth to the best king ever. Now ANTS HAD THE UPPER HAND WHEN IT CAME TO NETERO BUT NOT HUMANITY. Humanity had been developing for centuries hence Meruem being defeated by technology.
I love how Suraj is the only one recognizing the Vice Chairman the whole time, like literally way back in ep 98-99ish or something that the Vice-Chairman was first aforementioned, Vice Chairman is always in Suraj's mind or in every reaction. I think they're now on 'that' arc and I bet Suraj is loving that Vice Chairman.
So Mereum won the nen battle but lost to human technological development which has been developed over hundreds of thousands of years. I like how Mereum views human individuality as a weakness and the eusociality of the ants as a strength, but Netero shows that human individuality is also a strength bc that individuality caused constant competition amongst ourselves leading to us developing terrible weapons such as the nuclear bomb, so while Netero shows it as a strength it is also a weakness in the sense that it has caused untold suffering and destruction, on such a scale that the Chimera Ants haven’t even begun to approach yet. Humans will always indiscriminately destroy things they view as potential threats and the Chimera Ants were one such threat.
In response to mickey's comment about the bodhisatva doing nothing to the king in general (don't know how to write it xd), that's exactly why he ended up telling meruem his name, he admitted defeat as a fighter by not being able to beat him with his own power, so he tells him his name and use the nuke after. I didn't read to much into it the first time I watch it that's why I mention it here, but it is just genius how the person who has train to perfection and values strenght the most must put his pride aside and use some cheap ass nuke, it's kinda sad actually.
Y'all overlooked Netero stating that humans had infinite potential. The Ant King was the Pinnacle for ant evolution, but Netero was not. Humans could evolve way past the Ant King in power.
The ant king was never a threat. It was just simply a matter of using as little resources and casualties as possible to wiping them. Even if he lived he would have been nuked to hell.
The pinnacle of human perfection and training and gratitude came up short but humanity's darkness won the fight. This is why humans will always win... Because of the bottomless malice within the human heart but Netero takes that and uses it to save humanity. The dicotamy and direction of togashi is absolute pinnacle of genius
Netero is the most interesting character in this entire series. He is a man who lives for battle. He has much less care for human life than normal people, and can be very sadistic at times. Violence is his life’s purpose. Yet at the same time, he can be very kind, joking, and fun. And grim, and all different kinds of emotions. That is why he is the perfect representation of humanity. He was selected to represent humanity in their possible last moments. The line, “You understand nothing of humanity’s endless potential for malice.” Comes as the final words spoken in a battle that didn’t need to happen. Just like many times in history before, the battle was not necessary. They could’ve solved it through words, just as Meruem suggested. But they fought anyway. And the final act in that amazing, incredible battle, was the worst invention in human history. Nukes. The man who represented humanity had to resort to nuclear bombs to win. He sacrificed himself, “for the colony.” Because that’s the thing. The whole fight, Meruem was the more human character. Its especially shown in the nuke, because that is a very clear parallel to the bombing of hiroshima and nagasaki during ww2. The unnecessary loss of life in both. Jeez man, hunter x hunter is incredible.
In other animes , if a character laughs even when he's completely immobile that either meant that he had a hidden power or that he knows someone strong who will avenge his death, but in this anime let's be honest , no one expected a Nuke😳😳😳😳😳.....Man I loveee this Anime😭😭 , Togashi get well soon ma guy😭
Regarding Netero's attack being the strongest move a human can muster is debatable. remember guys, you're forgetting that Nen is limitless, and Netero is a prime example of a human being who reached his peak regarding Nen under traditional circumstances. However, what if the individual Nen evolution isn't traditional, you're forgetting that there Nen can follow a condition system which immediately changes the rules of the game. The deadlier the condition that the individual sets, the stronger the Nen ability becomes. Kurapika and Chororo are prime examples. Nen in its traditional form follows the force with its rules while with conditions it follows the dark side of the force which can also be way stronger than the traditional ways.
20:40 I don't think it's messed up at all that you rooted for Meruem, because so far, it seems like he's the hero of this arc who is undergoing some major character development.
Who's to say how he would grow? How his views of humans would change? ("Won't be using humans to propagate our species anymore" Sure you wouldn't Mereum, that's not total b.s. at all) I knew how dangerous he could be(and thus, why humanity would be so absolutely opposed to letting him, and the other ants, live), but damn, if I wasn't rooting for him by the end of this arc!
killua didnt have nen, and nen users usually have this layer of protection at all times, even in its weakest form its probably miles ahead of basic human strenght
@@jellalfernandes1309 Yeah I love dbz and I love dbz fights But sometimes I wish they would put just a little strategy into their fights It would make the fights so much better

Togashi makes you love the villains that's why you should react to Yu Yu Hakusho
The pleasant sounds of the score in the background whenever horror occurs in each episode is so crazy! Whenever a human child is eaten by a Chimera Ant or something like this Poor Man's Rose explosion happens, euphoric music plays. It's such a mind fking.
This fight came down to a difference in view on what "evolution" is. Meruem referred to a biological/physical evolution, whereas Netero referred to a technological evolution. The difference between the ants and the humans is that the humans have always dealt with being weak physically, and have invented ways around their fragile exterior, whereas the ants were always biologically superior to species around them, so they never had the need to develop anything resembling weapons, let alone a bomb.
What's also interesting is that Netero probably had that bomb implanted for just anybody who was capable of defeating him in battle and not just the King. Netero was so prideful and arrogant that he couldn't let someone stronger than him live while he perished and it was meant to take out anyone strong enough to take down the strongest man in the world as they'd be too dangerous to be left alive.
I remember when I first saw this episode, it instantly jettisoned Hunter x Hunter to my favorite anime of all time. From here on out it’s all heartstrings being tugged on. From this episode on is some of the best anime you’ll ever watch, so enjoy it all 🙂
they took the King to a weapons testing site for a reason ^^ ... and Neteros speach still gives me the shivers ... it's even better with the japanese word that means evolution/malice ^^ HUMANITY FIRST!! ^^
imagine netero getting a heart attack in the middle of the palace before leaving - nuking both the ants, hunters and the hundreds of thousands of people gathered outside...
From what was shown, I think the other governments would be fine with that, so long as it took out the ants. They probably would have resorted to that if the hunters had failed anyway.
Your guys's Channel went down right before this episode came out. Haven't had a case of blue balls this bad in years. I've been waiting for this for almost a month now!
U guys.. this anime is just something else yo, i don't even know what to say there is no anime thet's like it it's simply different from others. It's just .. damn it 🤦🏽♂️
WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATTT??? Natero Lost his arm? That never happened before - Hunter Exam (One of the Examinee) - Hisoka Heavens Arena - Gon Greed Island Arc
Love the small details , how the narrator explains the rose shape of the bomb and everything. The ants were mere babies compared to a pantheon of human warfare and evolution spanning millennia.
At the end of this arc it's tough to say there's actual villains. Everything's gray, each character has their own perspective and if anything Netero might be the closest thing to a villain
I guess. But I mean the ants were literally eating humans. Netero basically just said I’m willing to prevent that by any means necessary. If the king and the guard had been like colt or Ikalgo and said he we just want exist peacefully and not eat humans im sure they would’ve agreed. But that wasn’t on the table.
Ant King said the pinnacle of all evolution is him. Netero said you don't know about evelution of humans so he showed him what we accoplished. The Nuclear Weapons of Mass Destruction
The big point was Netero thinking was right from the beginning of this fight was his knowledge of the bomb and Human race. Meruem meant what he said, and he may have wreck havoc in order to create his equality dream world. But Netero knew. He knew that strenght, training, potential, all of that is inferior to the infinite potential of the Human Race and its potential to evolve, to destroy. Meruem would never have conquered mankind, because mankind would have nuked the entire know world before letting that happen. And Netero knew it. He had to stop Meruem, because that was the only way to protect Humanity, not from the ant, but from itself.
I once heard someone draw parallels between the time during the Hunter Exams when Killua and Gon faced Netero during their competition to catch the ball. And how back then, Netero decided to handicap himself by not using his right arm and left leg....and how insanely enough during this match, the tables were turned and Netero instead lost his right leg and left arm
I think it’s funny how we’re supposed to be impressed by the King’s strategy and way of thinking, when his strategy is similar to Gon’s against Genthru (Keep attacking), and he has never won a Gungi match, lol.
Gon wasn't trying to identify Genthru's bias. Not every aggressive strategies are the same. Gon vs Genthru was finalized by how Gon used his environment.
Daemon Spade Isn’t Genthru’s use of Gyo to protect himself from the use of Little Flower, a bias? A rhythm, a pattern that Gon was searching to exploit in the first half of the fight? Anyway, I don’t want to say beyond that there’s a 1:1 between the two fights. I think there’s more cunning on display in that battle, while Netero vs Mereum is pure physical spectacle.
Netero had a simple point. No matter how much these creatures evolved biologically, they could never hope to match humanity's bottomless malice and technologically progression. There's plenty of cruelty that humans are capable of. The ants, while more powerful, were not inherently cruel. The species focused on hive mind and a simplistic mindset, combined with monstrous power. Humans are something else altogether, proven by everything wrong in the world today, with so many people still wilfully indulging in selfishness, greed and ignorance.
I feel like people like going to every HxH's reaction videos to copy/paste all the analysis that have been made on the Manga No matter what channel it is, you'll always see the same comments under the video lol sry if my english is bad
what i understand with "trap the enemy with indiscriminate love" is because the enemy instints wont react because dont feel that you will do anything to them you are showing them love and that leave you open of the big shot i really love how they write this and the logic behind it
So you"re saying when Meruem was a little ant he observed the Netero fight with Gon & killua and wanted revenge for them and thought it be humorous to remove his arm and leg?
I love that in a series full of magical creatures and supernatural abilities the most terrifying thing still in that world is the weapons created by man to wipe each other out.
netero's Ultimate attack makes him the most hardcore military vet. and he still wasn't even at the top of humanity. he said it had bee 30 years. since he was in the top ranks of nen users. but also shows that Hiroshima still had a huge impact o Japan to this day.
So i was a bit confused because in the official manga translation netero says "never underestemate humanities potential for malice" where as here it was evolution. Turns out Togashi wrote both. Rather apt considering the line is proceded by an atom bomb.
I'm so glad that you mentioned how Komugi's games with the King affected his ability in this fight because without them Meruem is strong, but would've lost to this batttle of willpower and wits against Netero. And yeah... apart from that I'm speechless too, humanity's malice won this fight, not its strength.
@@Tweek08 You're right that was a little harsh lol, let me rephrase. It's not that I don't like him, I just don't think he's a very good reactor. In almost every reaction, most of the things he says are so contradictory to what he just watched that it's a little annoying.
