Back in the 90's an older retired guy invited me along to shoot a patch. It was a great time exploring for me and he found a decent nugget in quartzite. About three weeks went by and he really wanted me to come along again. That time he found another nice nugget early on and offered his new GM for me to try and he took over with his older heavy ML. Damn he nailed a nice second nugget while I struck out. He really encouraged me, kept calling, leaving more and more invitations to shoot the patches more often. Sometime later after two or three years he gifted me a machine and let me know, " You're a very lucky person". I found my first nugget with that machine.

Hey Chris! I'm heading to Missoula Montana next month to visit an old friend and we're going prospecting up in the mountains. I'm going to take my gear and all the advice and knowledge I've gained from watching your videos the past few weeks. Prospecting has always been a bucket list dream of mine since I was a kid and also I live in Ohio and there isn't enough gold here to make it a worthwhile hobby. Anyways, I appreciate all your efforts to help us find success. Ill tell you next month if I find anything! Happy prospecting!!!

@ChrisRalph Год назад
Sorry - I get quite a few people every day who want me to ID their rock and mineral photos. I do not offer a mineral ID service, mostly because it’s not as easy as you think. Usually, minerals cannot be identified from just a picture (same thing for metals - there are loads of alloys, both man made and natural). Please watch my videos on how to Identify minerals for yourself. Part 1 can be found here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MpkW58ZeQlc.html and Part 2 can be found here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zOWo49X90gA.html and Part 3 can be found here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_ab5NngRlVw.html

Hi Chris! I think nuggets make a distinctive sound in scoop.
@ChrisRalph
@ChrisRalph Год назад
I've dug many thousands, and you cannot tell by sound gold from lead. You can perhaps tell gold from iron by sound, but its not 100% certain.
@greedygringoprospecting6941
see if you can get some one to lend you the gpx 6000 very light. or the equinox 800 ,900. ,manticore. ,i have a equinox 700 swinging it ,it will sound off on my sand scoop like 2 feet from it ,with the 11" coil. horse around. ,you have gold. all 4 i mentioned are very light. just making a suggestion. hope you have a good day.

Chris, thank you for all you do. How deep will the 7000 detect a 1oz nugget, and a 1 lb nugget? And how deep will a Gm1000 detect these same nuggets? Thank you.
@ChrisRalph

It is not a simple question and depends on a number of factors. Watch my video on how deep a metal detector can see: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SD3cSkeikto.html

Hi Chris, I Always like your videos, Thank You for making them and sharing with us. I'm wondering if I may have met you at gold seekers in Paradise when Gary Connors and I were partners. anyway I would like to go to AUSTRALIA to test a machine I am building specifically for AUSTRALIA, have you been down under ? I had claims in Alaska that produce Great gold. I like the Mining Journal= the who's who of prospecting. Best Regards.

Can i ask you if that detector has paid for its self? Money wise ? Is it much better than the 6000? There is a learning curve on that one also .
@ChrisRalph
@ChrisRalph Год назад
Yes it has paid for itself, but if you have very limited experience and knowledge, don't expect to just walk out and start digging loads of nuggets. Like I say in the videos, its a skill to be learned. I don't own a 6000, so I cannot comment on that.

chris .there is big rock i have come across while metal detecting using GPZ 7000 .when i put the coil over it it makes alot of noise .but the center of rocks doesn't have noise and when i break its parts the smaller part doesn't produce any sounds .how can i test if its hot rocks or its cointain some treasure
@ChrisRalph
@ChrisRalph Год назад
learn to recognize the hot rocks as they usually have a similar appearance. Break a few open if you need to - if you dont see gold, its just a rock.
@royjohnson465
@royjohnson465 Год назад
Use a VLF metal detector in “discrimination mode”, look at the digital numbers to identify a hot rock ‘or’ gold.

Minerals in the soil and rocks which contain iron as part of the mineral.

Chris have you ever crushed up hot rocks? I crushed a few and found small gold in several of them. I used to just toss them back but now I hold on to them and crush them to see if any gold is in them. I'm by no means saying every hot rock has gold and I don't always get gold in every hot rock I find but it does happen to me. Has this ever happened to you?

can u make a video explaining the sounds of each of ur detectors and what they mean ?
@ChrisRalph
@ChrisRalph Год назад
Sounds are different for each target. Size of the target and depth of the target matters and helps determine sound. Since gold, lead, iron trash and other potential targets can be of any size from small to large, what you can say for sure by listening to the sound is limited.

Chris, I know the GM 1000 won't run near as deep, but what's your opinion on locating patches with the Only detector I own?
@ChrisRalph
@ChrisRalph Год назад
Depends on the conditions of the ground where you are detecting, and I'd use the larger coil.
@jbowerman50

@@ChrisRalph that's what I was thinking, the grounds kinda hot (alot of mineralization) but is known to have streaks of fine placer, I'd like to run my puffer where everybody hasn't been digging so I'm thinking I'll have to find a patch first.
