When you got to the part about the trail being under construction, I remembered what happened to my son and I last year. One morning we rolled onto a dirt road and it was beautiful. Nice packed dirt, forest packed with ferns, occasional deer sightings, overcast day so we weren't in the hot sun, etc. 2 miles later, the county plow truck rolled by and dumped ankle deep loose sand all over the road. I fell over 50 feet after the truck rolled by. We pressed on pedaling when we could, walking a lot of it. Checking our pace I kept telling myself "at this pace we should be off this road in a hour". However, as we progressed, the sand got worse, and as it did, our pace got worse. Every 30 minutes I would re-evaluate our pace vs. the distance to get off that road and come to the same conclusion : "at this pace we should be off this road in an hour". It took us 2 hours to get off that road - almost 12 miles total. In the heat of the moment, Type 2 fun is not fun, but it makes for some of the best stories later.
Oh man, that sounds terrible!!! I can't even imagine what that would be like! I'd be like "am I dreaming?" Or "is someone filming this as a bikepacking comedy!?"...where the truck rolls by leaving piles of sand for the riders to try to ride, while the audience watching the scene on TV is laughing!
@@AdventurePlusMe It was a crazy day, but we got through it. I wouldn't wish that on anyone, but I have mad respect for anyone who went through anything similar, so I can sympathize with how you felt like 1.5 miles felt like 5. Now that you've done that ride, you'll be more confident in yourself in the next situation.
@The Adventure Biker thank you so much! It's totally worth it! Not only do I get to share my adventures but I get to relive them as well as I edit them😀
I'm glad to find your episode. So, you got started with Hurrican300, so far so good. Looking forward to your next episode because I think that's the 50+ mile section what I hiked through Marion County, Cross Florida Greenway, between Dunnellon and Ocala NF. Enjoy your ride, maybe one day I can do the same. 👍🙂
Thanks Follow Thomas! This route goes through so many beautiful areas! I crossed paths with the Florida trail numerous times, which made me smile each time, as I'm a big fan of our National Scenic Trails 😁
I was thinking about your channel recently! I’m surprised you don’t have more subscribers. I hope everything is ok and that if you’re feeling up to it, you make more videos 🤠
