This is my note from this class: Hurdle of the tongue. We have to beware of the usage of our tongue. If you want to be a person of Taqwa, you perceptive on how you speak. This is the hardest limb to control, to put on the bridle. It lets loose. Loose lips sink ships. There are lot of harm that comes from the uncontrolled tongue. The tongue is so severe that Allah put 2 gates in front of it, the teeth and the lips. The speech of the tongue affects all our limbs. When difficulties come the tongue has no way to speak other than what it has on its heart. So, if you are ever in an accident or get scared, think about what comes out of your mouth, is it something like a curse or is it something related to Allah. Think about the Palestinian people, they are going through so much but what are they saying? Alhamdullilah. We should strive at that level, the level of Iman they have is unparalleled. Sometimes you say a good thing and you don’t even think about it but that one word can raise your ranks in front of Allah. But on the other side, if you say a word/post a post/ write mocking people it might cause you to fall in Jahannam. Speech is powerful, and words are heavy, some of the greatest things you can do are to speak the right words and in order for you to get through the hard times in life, you have to have a habit of speaking good words to your heart by remembering Allah, doing Zikr. The remembrance of Allah in our usage of our tongue for the sake of gratitude, dua, Istighfar is going to get us through the hardest parts of our lives. The usage of our tongue is these: 1. Gratitude. Every day you must say Alhamdullilah look around and see everything that you are blessed with and be grateful. 2. Istighfar, Astagfirullah. The door of Rizq is open through Istighfar. 3. Glorification of Allah. The more you glorify Allah the more you put that into your heart and that’s what will come out when the hardship comes. 4. Speaking Truth. If you see that your heart is not soft, it’s hard and your body feels weak, you don’t feel the energy to move, and you don’t see that door of sustenance opening, know that you are not using your tongue the way that your tongue needs to be used, you need to remember Allah more. Remember that by preserving your speech you will protect your time, and your righteous actions, you won’t be backbiting people, so you will preserve the good deeds that you have done and know that protecting your speech will protect you from the harms of this world, know that you will protect your Akhirah by protecting what you say.
