Tropical storm conditions have started to overspread Jamaica as deadly Hurricane Beryl continues to advance closer to the island, and forecasters say devastating hurricane-force winds, life-threatening storm surge flooding and damaging waves are expected within hours.

I am taking a cruise that goes in this area in late September, hopefully this ends up not doing as much damage as it could.. I can't imagine being out there on an island with nowhere to run, it's bad enough when they come to the coasts in the US and people have to go to the interior..

It's not spelled hurdle, it's hurtle. A hurdle is what some runners jump over, to hurtle is to move forward in a rapid and chaotic manner. Hope that helps😇

I can appreciate pedantry as much as the next person, so I looked it up. According to Merriam Webster, "hurdle" only applies as a verb if it specifically refers to overcoming or going over something. (eg. a hurdle) Unless the intent was that the hurricane was overcoming expectations or going over a sea wall (somehow), you are in fact correct. Personally, I think their intent was to say that it was violently launching toward the mainland of which "hurtle" specifically applies. I too wish major news networks would proofread their own posts before posting them publicly as a *professional* company.

Ironically beryllium is being used ( allegedly) among other chemicals by certain govts for cloud seeding. If I were the conspiratorial type I'd say this storm it's timing and it's name is someone's idea of a joke. Fortunately I'm not conspiratorial😂
