ABOUT NEW AMSTERDAM
In the wake of the ambulance crash that ended Season 1, medical director Dr. Max Goodwin grieves the death of his wife, Georgia, and learns the difficulties of being a single parent - all the while continuing his commitment to solve systemic health care issues at the hospital. Add in his new responsibilities as a father and with cancer still lingering in the rearview mirror, everyone around Max must wonder how long he can sustain this impossible load. But "How can I help?" is not just Max's catchphrase, it's his reason for living. As long as he's helping others, Max is able to find hope in the most hopeless of places. The cast includes Ryan Eggold, Janet Montgomery, Freema Agyeman and Jocko Sims, with Tyler Labine and Anupam Kher.

Every modern TV hospital is made of windows using the most fragile glass possible, because patients breaking them by winging their IV pole around is dramatic. In reality you wouldn't see that because it's a massive hazard. At minimum, if they aren't using solid walls for rooms, that stuff will probably be plexiglas & outside windows will be reinforced.

in most hospitals in my city we don't have windows leading outside they all look out into the hall way and sometimes the windows are really small that only a toddler could fit through

right? like come on. strong winds do not break windows, especially in a hospital

i know there are exterior windows in my local hospitals, but the doors to the rooms are solid wood - not just for safety but also patient privacy. who wants to be lying in a hospital bed in full view of hundreds of strangers? when we were caught in an F4 tornado a few years ago, they moved everyone into the hallways, there was some shuddering and the lights briefly flickered, and then it was over. everyone was fine. no flying glass, no CO leaks, no random exploding ceilings with exposed electrical wires (which would have immediately tripped the circuit breakers regardless). hospitals are one of the safest places to be in any natural disaster, they're specifically built that way.

Not to mention wouldnt it be a big privacy problem if all the walls were made of glass like on tv? 😂 Like everyone can see everyone

Anyone else noticed that one doctor signing out everything? That was a nice detail. Edit : Oh no wait, one of the doctors is deaf. Ok that is kind of cool.

My question is why didn't the backup generators kick in instantly when the power went out? Life support doesn't wait for power to come back. And was the hospital build by the lowest bidder?

I think they have said this hospital was one of the first hospitals in New York so a lot of old architecture might still be in place instead of new ones.

@@arnavmekala4578Joint Commission should’ve inspected that hospital and if it didn’t pass then it would’ve been shut down! You can’t have an unsafe hospital semi operating!

seriously couldnt they have just kept the starir door open? would have given a little bit more air, and as long as the door wasnt in direct front of a window i dont really see what could have happened (unless the whole hospital crumbled, at which point i dont the the stairs would have been enouph of a shelter anyway)
@er4din903
@er4din903 11 месяцев назад
Carbón monoxide wouldn’t have made an effect that quickly, unless the entire stairwell is already flooded with it. Keeping a doorway, or even all doorways open wouldn’t have solved the issue. You’re breathing carbon dioxide / monoxide diluted by air.
@ulysselamolle3074
@ulysselamolle3074 11 месяцев назад
@@er4din903 it wasnt already filled tho. we see that the peoples on the bottom of the stair are affected first, then the doctors are affected a minute later. so by letting the door open and moving peoples from downstairs to upstairs. the gaz would have evacuated by the door instead of going up since (from what i remember) carbon dioxide/monoxide is heavier than air.
@emilyrobinson6080
@emilyrobinson6080 10 месяцев назад
@@ulysselamolle3074 technically its heavier than air, but in a confined vertical space like that where we dont know how long its been flooded with carbon monoxide, the fact the doors were open at the bottom wouldnt be enough to purge the atmosphere in just the time it takes for a couple dozen people to get in, and the source is still emitting it into the stairway. then also take into account that youd have a slight, but non trivial amount of pressure moving into the stairwell as the crowds bodies act like pistons pushing back against the gas as they enter. Not to mention as you would climb the stairs, youd naturally breathe in more air from the exertion, and the effect of a couple dozen people sucking oxygen all at once on top of a carbon monoxide leak would lead to quite a dangerous situation. The people at the top would still likely succumb last as the air near the top would likely have a lower concentration of the gas but still enough to cause symptoms.
@Sniperboy5551

Not really, you wouldn’t want to be anywhere near a CO leak

Yeah, I've been through many hurricanes and work in emergency medicine. There was no reason to go in to those stairs and a tree that fell wouldn't of gone through that window.
