Mannn the scene at the end where everybody is making the space comfortable and just...seeing all of the family members interacting with each other and showing love in such an "ordinary" way - it made me tear up. I grew up with a big family like this, I was raised by a village like that little kid in isolation. Since my Nauni died, the distance in my family has only continued to gradually increase over time. I hope that one day, when I have my own kids, that I'll get to foster a community of love again.

Gotta love how the grandma is the one in charge here. The whole family is against the idea of isolating the mother and her son for various reasons. But the grandma didn't care about potential fallout: all she cared about was getting her daughter (in-law?) and her grandson the best care possible. And once she said yes, the rest of the family shut up about it. I'm usually against families intervening on someone's medical issues. Especially if they are women and it's concerning reproductive issues. And especially if it's because of religious beliefs. But I do find instances like this rather sweet.

I understand that pain too. I’m not Indian but my family is just a mess due to generations of abuse and neglect. I am one of the few ones who weren’t beaten but I still had to deal with this. It would be way too long to explain everything but… I know how it feels to be in a broken family, to never feel comfortable and at ease, barely knowing what family actually is. I am grateful for my parents for what they did tho, they did their very best with the little they had.

12 is a stretch to me. But hey, kids all develop differently. I once saw an 8-ish year old get asked for their military service papers because he was too tall😂. That’s why we can make kindergarteners line up from tallest to shortest. If they all grew at the same rate it would be way harder.

This is quite strange for me. I live in Balkans we receive vaccine for TB as infants. In the general population a lot of people are carriers, but never get sick. If you get infected and are not immunocompromised you have about 5% chance the TB will go in to active phase. You are only infectious in active phase. Here TB patients get just a week in hospital, because medications in only 4 days stop you from being infectious, and the rest of the treatment, that lasts for several months, is continued at home. There is no need for such a lengthy quarantine that is both expensive and stressful.
@jayleighbear
@jayleighbear Год назад
in america there’s a lot of people who are extremely stupid and don’t vaccinate their infants/kids because of made up stuff they read online. therefore there’s probably a scary amount of people roaming around who could easily transmit/catch TB
@TimberlakeTigerGirl
@TimberlakeTigerGirl 6 месяцев назад
@@jayleighbearThat's not the issue at least not completely. TB in the 1900's was so rampant that 7 out of 10 Americans caught it and 85% of the infected died. The US government was forced to enact a law that until the disease was eradicated, anyone infected with TB were to be taken from their homes and put into hospitals specifically designed to fight the virus; saying no was not an option. After the vaccine was created, they made swift work to get as many people vaccinated as possible and again, refusal was not an option. Nowadays the disease had been eradicated from the US homeland because so many people took the vaccine. Most of the time when someone catches TB it's because they are either in contact with foreigners or they were outside the country where TB is still a problem. Since TB is essentially extinct in the US the vaccine is no longer mandatory. But, to prevent another potential outbreak, most US states still have laws in effect to where anyone who is infected with TB has to be quarantined and refusal can be an arrestable offense. There was an issue in Washington state not long ago where a woman caught TB and refused to isolate. The city authorities tried to reason with her to get her to isolate willingly but she refused citing 'her rights'. To protect the city from an outbreak, the city council was forced to get an arrest warrant from a judge that would force her to isolate at the hospital. As far as I know, she's still in isolation.

no lmao that's not how it works. positive TB skin test just means that you have had it or may be a non-infectious carrier, you go do a blood test after to confirm an active infection and then it's less "isolate in a single negative pressure room for nine months" and more "don't go to any wild parties or anything, try to stay by yourself as much as possible while you're existing and make sure you take your meds". this is ridiculous. entertaining to watch, but ridiculous.

The problem is, these shows are supposed to have medical advisors to improve accuracy and all they do is create unrealistic expectations from the medical system. And because the shows play in multiple countries, they create them internationally. No, doctors and medical students/interns/residents do not prep you for surgery... No you cannot see sperm fertilize egg and divide into a zygote within minutes of retrieving the egg (private practice)... No you do not sit up and have conversation with your family within minutes of being resuscitated and intubated... No, the doctor who does your angiogram is not the doctor who does your coronary bypass surgery... and no, your doctor is not the one who administers your IV medications is wards and ICU, or administers your chemo, or gives you your shot unless it is in his office and even then they often have nurses working for them... Even when I enjoy a medical drama, I am constantly astounded and irritated by these things...
